I just had an idea in my head and bought a selection of pieces. Going on the image:

2 x Black Support 2 x 2 x 10 Girder Triangular Vertical - Type 1 - Solid Top, 3 Posts
4 x Black Tile, Modified 4 x 6 with Studs on Edges
4 x Black Panel 1 x 2 x 1
4 x Black Slope 18 2 x 1 x 2/3 with 4 Slots
8 x Black Tile, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip
4 x Light Bluish Gray Bar 4L (Lightsaber Blade / Wand)
2 x Yellow Tile 1 x 4 with Black and Yellow Danger Stripes Black Pattern

Are those pieces available on Lego's Pick a brick?

Man, I feel bad for not liking the Monster or LotR series at all. I have zero interest in any of those sets. Seeing a lot of awesome pickups though! :)

My thoughts exactly. Both series look awesome, but after recently collecting all of Alien Conquest and rekindlingy love of Star Wars (eps IV, V & VI) sets, I think I'll stay away from other series for a while.

Tried to assemble my thrift air enforcer - it ended up down more pieces than I expected, so the build turned into a very interesting balance of structural integrity as well as trying to make it to the end with something that at least resembled the end product. I had to omit or substitute things on various steps, which made it worse as I went along and had used up a piece for a later step because I was missing something earlier (like using a size 4 rod instead of a size 3).

Unfortunately one of the unique missing parts was the rotor mount, leaving me with no way to attach the blades (which were all there, of course). It was also missing the thin cable and tube for the rotor control, though that wouldn't have affected the end product so much.

Didn't stop my daughter from playing with it and having fun, though.

I'll see how much it would cost to buy replacements for the missing parts. If they aren't easily found, it's still four bucks of decent pieces.

Dunno, mang. Living in Australia, I've never actually been to one. At the time of ordering, the Girders in black were only available from one seller within Australia, so I'm guessing they'd be the hardest to come by.

I also feel the same. All of them are very "playset-y" and wouldn't really cut it as display sets, which is always something I take into consdieration, unless the set in question is just that rad. That's why I'm super keen on SW vehicles right now.

Very nice, I thought it was an official set (I don't get star wars stuff so I didn't know)

Aw, shucks, wetwired :3.

Yeah, I am definitely more geared towards "display" sets as opposed to play sets. The modular line IMO has the best of both worlds.

Out of all the sets I own the only one I'd consider a play set is the Medieval Market Village.

Recently bought a box of loose Lego off Craigslist and I think I have most of the pieces to construct the Black Falcon's Fortress. We'll see just how far I can get...seems like this also had several Indians sets (No baseplates) so I'm tempted just to sell off some of the Indian stuff (Would try to buy them later) so I can get more Lego!

Why? Feel good about how you're saving money for the next theme that cleans you out. I don't like the monsters, LotR or any of the star wars new models. That's good as I can take stock and wait for the haunted house and next modular. Maybe a few creator sets (seaside house, pickup truck)

Speaking of Star Trek LEGO,

what themes save you lots of money by not existing?

appart from Star Trek too

for me definitely James Bond.
There are so many iconic scenes, places and characters that could keep the LEGO building team busy for years...
I would have to catch them all if they existed, as they don't I can rest in peace ;)

Finished Grand Emporium. Time for some 4am pictures before I collapse for the night.

HULK IS HAPPY TO GET BARGAINS!

The three modulars I have, all lined up. Soon, Pet Shop will be mine. And I will need to buy a bigger shelf to hold it.

As I built it, I thought I was missing one glass pane on the top floor, but after I finished the roof I found it. So I have one window that is backwards from the others. It is not noticeable, but I know. Urgh. Might have to disassemble some to fix it.

I did have an odd thing in the set though. I was shorted 10 dark tan bricks, but over 10 on the light tan ones. So the back side of the top floor has an alternating color pattern on one layer.

Of the three, I think Fire Brigade is still my favorite overall.
Winners in building categories for these three sets:
First Floor: Grand Emporium. Easily. Although Fire Brigade had a less steps using 60+ of one piece.
Second Floor: Fire Brigade. It isn't even a contest. That second floor is worth buying the set for. It sounds silly, but nearly everyone on here who has gotten the set seems to gush about the second floor. It is just one of those things where there is either a cool building technique, or a really cool touch of detail to it. It has everything. Even a kitchen sink.
Third Floor: Well, only Grand Emporium and Town Hall have one, and Grand Emporium wins on that one. Building a toy store for a third floor is really neat.
Roof: Town Hall. The set may be above average as you build it, but the roof is an ace build. Lots of cool techniques, and a great cap to the building.

Overall appearance: Grand Emporium. It just looks so cool on the exterior with all the little touches. I am glad I held off on it instead of starting with it, otherwise I would be spoiled.

Anyways, expect lots of silly Hulk and Deadpool pics tomorrow now that I have a new building.

After nearly 4 years on and off of building my Ultimate Collectors Millenium Falcon, and finding out I may have lost a piece or 2, and it being on the top shelf gathering dust half built, the wife and I decided it has to be put away in the box again. I doubt I'll ever get it done.

Fucking gutted.

sets that save me money by not existing:
Game of Thrones, i know we are kinda spoiled already with LEGO fantasy sets but I'd still buy the hell out of GoT.
The Dark Tower. who knows, this could change when the film versions start rolling out.
The Walking Dead? that's some wishful thinking, but it'd be epic.
Firefly
Mario/Zelda/Metroid/anything Nintendo
Alien or Predator franchise, including Prometheus
anything that includes more Marvel or DC characters
Disney or Pixar sets
How to Train Your Dragon
Ninja Turtles. Yes, I want to build my own modular sewer

the possibilities aren't lacking :P

I think it's more that there felt to be a pretty big hype for these sets. LotR never sparked an interest, but the Monsters theme had SOME potential I thought. I don't know what it is, but I imagine it's because they look more like play sets than they do building sets...Which is, of course, fine! :) But not my cup of tea at the moment.

surely it cannot take that long to put together, one nice weekend in the winter with nothing else to do.
anyway, its a shame, but c'est la vie. :)

Black Falcons set

This is the set I was able to construct with the loose lego I bought recently. I actually wanted this set but it's a bit sparse on the details (As some of those older sets can be) so now I'm unsure what I'll do with it now.

I just haven't got the time. It became more of a chore, trying to find each piece. What I may do, is take it all apart, then go through the book and look for each piece and group them together by chapter. then try again.

Dropped into Toys R Us at Chadstone (eastern suburbs of Melbourne) tonight and actually saw a LotR set. Uruk-Hai Army. Did not expect to see it there. Anyway, it was either 50 or 60AUD; I can't quite remember.

Also, for any Deadpool enthusiasts, K-Mart have Wolverine's Chopper (and Loki's Cube Escape) 10AUD cheaper than retail.

Just one set? The only LOTR I'm going to get for now is Gandalf's arrival. Might check out Southland tomorrow if I have time.

Ya, I've also focused on SW and AC, so LOTR and monsters wouldn't fit in. I could see getting into both later though, maybe when they are on sale. The haunted house would probably get me to buy some monster stuff just to add to it. I just know I cannot buy one or two of these sets; once I buy one I will try to get them all.

Aren't there Toy Story sets?

I went to a toy warehouse sale this morning in Toronto. It was absolute chaos. Apparently this annual event is known for good Lego prices so there were scores of people sweeping boxes indiscriminately into their carts. I saw one lady that had 6 copies of a huge City set just because it was $80 instead of $120. I wasn't too far back in the line but by the time I got there it had been picked clean. People were incredibly rude.

Apparently they had a few boxes of series 2 minifigs that one lady took all of. I expressed my surprise at this and a very nice shopper said "follow me back to my cart", and handed me 8 bags! Apparently the woman who took all of the minifigs dropped a bunch and people scooped them uip.

Long story short: 8 series 2 figures for $12, and my faith in humanity is restored.

If someone tells you to go to this, don't:

use the parts for moc'ing ;)

Haha, I hardly if ever moc. I'd like to but I never get around to it. I should give it a shot one of these days because my younger self would have killed to have the selection of parts I have now.

I think I'll sell it though because I'd like to build a castle with black walls instead. Something like model 6086 or the like.

Hey. I might be interested in taking it off your hands, if you really want to sell it. But I'm not looking to break the bank, and I know it's a very highly desired set. If you're interested in parting with it, hit me up in PMs.

Todays haul, they had a few older minifigs that I grovelled over don't think I picked up any doubles but stay tuned to see what I got.

And I've also started some sorting of my new Lego in preparation of moc ing soon :)

I just realized a flaw in Grand Emporium. There is only one escalator per floor. That means that there is no separate up or down one. Unless it is just fancy stairs. Yeah...that's what it is.
