Worked a little bit more on my MOC today after taking like a week off from it. Redid parts of the wall for a more uniform look. Also added a rear exit and two windows. It is asymmetrical now because of the coffee counter.

Speaking of coffee:

Espresso machine with syrup pump counter. It may be a bit tall for mini figs, but not sure how else to pull it off.

Stage for acoustic performances. It is close to the coffee counter, but there is still room.

I am toying with a spiral staircase inside the building, but not sure about stability. I have to poles for support that can go under some steps, but still not convinced. Also toyed with two different step designs. Any feedback or ideas for spiral steps that are very compact? Was thinking of one regular set that branches into two spirals.

Weird, I haven't had any solid heads since getting back into Lego about 5 years ago. I vaguely remember reading that the hollow design is to allow airflow in case a child gets one stuck in their windpipe.

The figs in my PotC Captain's Cabin all have the recessed solid stud. The figs in QAR mostly have the tri-shape except for the 2 crew members who are also in the Cabin set.
All of the figs in my Weathertop and Shelob sets have the recessed solid, except the Ringwraiths have the tri-shape.

And for fun, I checked an original plain smile head, regular full stud with LEGO printed on top. Oh how things have changed over time.

It looks amazing! Really great job.

How about these bricks?

Thank you. Plan on using the large circular plates from Tower Bridge for tables throughout.

When I build the second floor, I am debating about having it closed floor (to get more tables) or have it be empty in the middle to look down on the stage.

Awesome! What is the MOC again?

And regarding a spiral staircase...You appear to be doing an OK job of it. A few ideas I'm speculating:

1) 1x4 plates with the single stud pieces on the inside for the column, 1x2 tiles for the stepping area, and a thin decoration brick, round single brick, etc on the outside for pizazz.

2) You may be able to use a technic rod for the middle pole with connectors coming out for steps. I'm not sure how to get the step look, though.

3) The way you're doing it was the other option. That's clean and compact as it is.

MOC is going to be a cafe. Complete with acoustic night.

Not enough of them. But using the 1x4 plates with flat plates in the middle achieves the same thing. The spiral action itself is what causes the instability. But I think a support shaft halfway up will do it. I will be getting to the stairs soon, so will post progress on that.

The townhouse half of the Pet Shop has a spiral staircase on the second floor. It has supports at each 90 degree angle. It is basically what you have shown us so far though.

It uses round studs under the end of each step to control the angle of the staircase too, stopping the steps from moving around too much. Worth checking the instructions online.

Man the wait for my Fire Brigade is becoming intolerable. From order to expected arrival is going to be about a week and a half if not more. I guess you get what you pay for with free shipping, but there are no physical Lego stores in any convenient location to Victoria (unless I take the ferry, which I wouldn't do just for a Lego run).

I may cave and buy something at Toys R Us tomorrow while their City/Creator/Basic 20% off sale is still on. The still have one of those off road creator sets:

sRAYS.jpg

But even on sale it's still $100CDN. I'm pretty sure it's discontinued, though, it no longer appears on Lego's site.

The only other one that's tempting me is the lighthouse, which at $40 is a pretty good balance of price to piece, and $10 off Lego.com's Canadian price.

Hey Bone, great job on your MOC!!!

For your expresso table...have you thought about using 1x1 flat rounds for the legs? Maybe 1-2 will give it the right height.

It's so hard for me to justify buying ANYTHING from TRU with their markup. The only time I would EVER suggest buying from them is if you can get a discount from Lego S@H. In the case of the lighthouse set, that's not bad. Otherwise, if you're going to pay retail prices, the VIP points are [almost] always worth it.

Nice, the Dark Bucket hit 10,000 votes on Cuusoo. I doubt it will get made but maybe an Army building set will be considered now.

Unfortunately LEGO basically already said it's not happening. And besides, do you really want to assemble 100 of the same minifigs in a row?

I forgot to take pictures of my Supercar progress. So far, I'm loving it. I'm pretty sure I'm building the transmission at the moment, but without knowing the end product very well, I can't tell.

Unrelated, people really need to start going to MOC Pages more. It's my favorite site to browse at the office next to GAF.

Finally! Also have fire Brigade but I haven't built that yet. (waiting till I have some time to focus on it)

After that I want to get Sopwith Camel, Grand Emporium, the Imperial Shuttle, Tower Bridge and the VW Van. What have you done LegoGAF D:

Bricklink is down again. And wanted lists weren't working before anyway. Hopefully they get things fixed soon, I want to order some bricks to put.a few extra touches on my big Ben

Emerald night also showed up, which is the last order I have outstanding. The family had a legoey weekend - I built R2D2 and beefed up big ben, my daughter built minecraft and my son has nearly finished the Millenium falcon. That leaves
- emerald night
- maersk train
- tower bridge
- sonic boom

Sitting waiting to be built. I've also freed up space for display, enough for either big Ben, or the two trains side by side.

I'm looking for display space though. Ikea detolf is probably too narrow for wide sets, although its cheap. I found a nice set of clear glass shelves for pretty cheap on amazon, but they are open to the elements - do I need to worry about dust, or just dust them occasionally to keep them clean? The alternative is a nice wider glass cabinet, but it's a lot more expensive (£40 for shelves vs £180 for cabinet)

Shelves would be fine, right? Plus anything a little too long can dangle off the ends

Bolded sets are incredible. :)

And regarding your dust question, I just use a can of compressed air once in a while for my display stuff. Works wonders!

For anyone who's built the Sopwith Camel, when you first did the tail wing flaps and hooked them up, were they stuck in an up direction? Mine are and I'm not sure if I've messed up the build or if it'll get fixed later.

Thanks. I think I'll go for the open shelves then. So much cheaper which is welcome when I've spent so much on Lego

Keep in mind that unlike the US, in Canada Toys R Us and Lego.com have exactly the same regular prices, which makes Toys R Us the better deal most of the time (as they have 20% sales on quite often).

So Lighthouse Island is $50 on Lego.com but it's $40 at Toys R Us right now due to the sale. And I'd only really get $2.50 in VIP points so there would be little point in buying from Lego themselves.

Walmart can also be a good place to pick up some Lego (like baseplates which are less than $7 compared to Lego's $10) but their selection isn't great and many sets are MSRP anyway.

Oh wow, well that's pretty awesome!

So what's the deal with BL? I've been trying to import some wanted lists and parts lists but have been getting SQL errors. On top of that, it's been going down quite often the past week or so. Did it get hacked or something?

Oh wow, well that's pretty awesome!

Yeah it's nice - although would be nicer still if we paid the same prices as you guys did in the US!

I like the creator houses and the Lighthouse seems to be the best deal in terms of what you get - the log cabin is cheaper but doesn't have as many useful pieces somehow.

I really like the old hillside house but it's not available anywhere, and the other two (apple tree and seaside I think) are overpriced, particularly the seaside house.

Also weird the lighthouse costs basically the same as some new creator sets like the transport chopper.

Oh crap...looking at their their Twitter it seems like they were hacked.

https://twitter.com/#!/BricklinkAdm

Just one of them. Others talk about how Paypal account info is not saved etc etc.

The Admin account was taken over and some accounts got merged. As a result, we are going to have to roll the database back to before it

I was just about to post that Bricklink admin has warned everyone to change their passwords when the site comes back up, due to hacking.

Nice set - that one is truly fantastic!

Also, what's that Technic set you have there????
It truly is fantastic. Very fun build too.
That Technic set is the 8458 - Silver Champion. I'd take pictures but I need to dismantle it and give it a good clean before I can do that.

Spreading the virus love! Now pass it on to all your friends!
And I had gone clean for several years before that!

Wow, I just looked that set up...Color me jelly.

Got a new X-Wing Starfighter 9493 for $40 shipped. Heard it's a really great piece, can't wait to start on it!

Also, was at Walgreens today and i found a bunch of series 7 in their (very small) toy section! Got 1 Galaxy Patrol and 2 Death Knights and 2 Aztec Warriors among my random picks. I'm gonna stop by again tomorrow and see if I can feel out a couple others I'm chasing after (really want bunny, ocean king and maybe grandma visitor and jungle boy if I can identify them)

Sadly they mark up the figs $0.50 (so $3.49) but it's worth it to get them immediately and not have to pay shipping, since I don't have a LEGO store nearby :/

So yeah I think I am covered for the series 7. I don't have a full set but I have the ones I want. I'm no longer looking to partner up and purchase a case.

However when series 8 comes around it would be great if any american GAFers would like to arrange a group purchase. I'd be down!

I'm fully aware that I am relatiely new to GAF, so I would entrust a more senior member to handle the cash and distribution. We'd all decide in a joint fashion who, of course.

So this is what it looks like when most of my sets are dismantled.

That high tower is just the lids xD

Roughly how many pieces? If you have a system, mind sharing it? Always looking for improvements
I'm scared to break down our big sets. I bought a ton of Lego this year, probably have 30-35,000 bricks now and I don't think our drawers will take it all.

I'll look for pictures of my old sorting system - it was AMAZINGLY useful and clean.

IKEA billy bookcase shelves aren't bad. You can buy glass doors for them too, just check the measurements online to see if your sets will fit width wise

Picked these up after work today thanks to toys r us' 20% off City and Creator sets. Will build them most likely after the EURO group stage is over.
