Halp. I'm getting the itchy trigger finger on the Shuttle Expedition set.

So tempted. Haven't had a good lego set to build in YEARS. Last one was a lego harry potter train set I got for my birthday in the 5th grade, a decade ago ( :( ).

What do. Any impressions?

You won't find anyone to stop you here mate ;)

It's awesome. IMO Lego is having a renaissance recently.

That Spiderman set looks like the Avengers Helicarrier mashed up with the Monster Fighter Mad Scientist set. Fair at best, but at least it is cheap.

Shuttle Expedition will be my next set methinks. It looks rad, but the thing that has held me back of late is the existence of a base-plate. Base-plates = poor display potential for me. Also, I just blew 170AUD (mother-effin' shipping costs, yo) on a vintage-ish Creator set, so I'm done for the month (don't worry; the table is set for an impending word feast).

Wish I hadn’t looked at this thread because now it makes me want to spend a shitload of money. I use to play with LEGOs as a child with my brother, he’d always build them because I couldn’t. My favorite one that we owned was the Castle Set, had so much fun playing with those. If I were to wanted to start building any advice on what new sets are newbie friendly?

Looks like the old rumor of July being the discontinue for PotC may be true. LEGO S@H has put up a couple sets so far on sale and both Target B&M and online (only one set on clearance so far) have started to clear inventory.

Man, that sucks. So many missed opportunities.

Modified my Cafe MOC a bit tonight. Mainly because I wanted to get windows to use in another MOC, but I think the front looks better for the changes.

First Pass:

Second Pass:

Third Pass:

Sadly, once I got the windows I wanted, I realized I did not have the proper pieces to do another Modular MOC. So I decided to try a challenge and make a mini modular of the Cafe MOC.

And next to it's bigger sibling:

I have not gotten the mini Modulars set, so I am building this just from glancing at the instructions for the official set for scale purposes. Essentially, the minis are exactly 1/4 scale. That adds some unique and fun build challenges.

The mini one looks ok so far. Lots of refinement to come. I am proud of getting all the windows on the bottom floor to work using SNOT techniques.

I wanna get a set of the olympic minifigures but they're only on eBay so far, I can't find them anywhere on Bricklink. Seems to be about AUD$50-55 for a complete set shipped from the UK, wondering if I should bite the bullet and buy them now. One of the guys at work is after a set too and we'll buy together to save on postage, which will bring it to AUD$52

I haven't seen any of the Olympic figs in the wild yet, but i'm gonna go searching today. I know S@H does them but i'd rather feel them up first and try to set of nine first go.

I think i've spent around £60 on the S7 figs so far.

How much is a whole box? and can you complete multiple sets?

It's hard to gauge atm- i haven't seen the statistics anywhere yet. The previous boxes had 60 figs and you'd get at least 3 full sets. Because there's only 9 here obviously it seems more likely you'll get the full sets.

If I can find a box to buy somewhere i'll take a set for me and then maybe get some trading going on in here- atm it's too difficult because they're still rolling out and international demand is high, but if I can I know i'd like to do that :)

My local toy shop had a box on the counter today. Same one that still has series 3/4/5/6 minifigs

Good job I'm not into collecting them or I'd be very poor.

I actually stumbled across this info today

6 each of the Boxer, Weightlifter and Horse Rider
7 each of the Swimmer, Relay Runner, Judo Fighter, Tennis Player, Gymnast and Archer

So effectively 6 complete sets per box and 6 spares.

Guys, I just had a revelation...

Why aren't there Star Trek Lego sets? Why don't they want my money? Why don't they want to make the best Star Trek game ever made?

Yeah, I'm in Northern Ireland for the summer so I dont even know if they'd make it here even though it's the UK.

I know, I would love it to bits,
silly UCS Falcon or Death Star, consider a UCS Defiant or a UCS DS9 or a UCS Borg Cube :D

* there is some "fake LEGO" Star Trek

Hasbro (and, thereby, KRE-O) has the Star Trek license at the moment. Also, I believe LEGO has stated they did not want to do Star Trek while doing Star Wars; choosing sides in a decades old nerd battle.

I'm kind of glad, to be honest. They already get enough of my money.

It will hit 10,000 very easily.

If this set does get made, I want the front of the box to feature something saying "Free cake inside!" Only for there not to be a cake piece in the set.

Was there a logical reason given by Lego for the opening it up again to the vote? It seems weird and basically conciliatory to do this.

Why did they shut it down in the first place? I never saw an explanation...

They had given their generic response of "Not suitable for our target age group of 6-11 year olds"

I'm guessing that maybe they thought it was an FPS or something? They had apparently put the brakes on the project before it was even opened up to voting from what I had read.

Still trying to find the text from the original rejection again...

EDIT: Here's some info at this link: http://nerdapproved.com/gaming/the-awesome-lego-portal-2-project-that-we-wish-would-happen/

Sadly CUUSOO considers Portal an innappropriate license for unspecified reasons, and although we tried numerous forms of contact we were unable to appeal this decision. We didn’t know this until we tried to submit the project, so we’re left with a polished piece of work even though it’s not possible to get supporters for it.

The whole thing is odd then. They are probably going to inadvertently troll the shit out of everyone by rejecting it anyways.

They are learning as they go. They got bad reactions when things like serenity got all the way to 10k votes and was then rejected, so they introduced a prescreening process. Seems they were a little too quick to reject this one.

When it gets to 10k this week (5k in just a couple of days), it's basically in the arms of Valve whether it gets made. do they have any history of licensing their IP for products? Are any of them Lego fans?
