Wetwired, I love the Marvel frame. Is that the new Spidey?

Anyway, real reason for posting is that I have a great bargain story to tell. Spotted a mixed joblot on Gumtree near me for - pic showed some random Harry Potter bits, the edge of a Indiana Jones Crystal Skull set, a Clone Wars set I'd not seen (Pirate Tank), plus a load of the usual bright random blocks from various Build and Basic sets. For those alone it was worth it, and I'd not bought a mixed load for a while... But when I collected it, they handed me two massive plastic sacks, with a lot of sets in there, including some older Star Wars, plus one of the Indy sets inspired by Raiders, a Quidditch set, and lots of figures. Really lucked out.

Nah that's an old spidey, I think it's the spiderman 2 minifig.

Did you get many indy minifigs with those lots? I'm chasing a couple in particular, I want to do an indy frame like the marvel one.

I just dug this out of storage from my wife's parent's house. I don't even remember what sets are all in here, though I do remember an AT-AT, Falcon, B-Wing, X-Wing, X-Wing (Dagobah) Snow Speeder, Cantina, and Arc-Fighter. I also have a Sandcrawler, but it's unopened. Must have been in a different box....

motherload.
I let my sister use all of my old LEGOs for her babysitting gig she was running for a few years. They are in pretty bad shape, if they still exist at all :P I had some great sets too. Enjoy your find!

It turns out that Star Wars set 9526 (Palpatine's Arrest) is a TRU exclusive in North America. With the TRU tax in full effect, they are charging $110 for 645 pieces, which is insane. I'm expecting the set to be $80 when it hits LEGO S@H in August, so I will be waiting.

I don't understand TRU. Their prices are ridiculous...

Bookmarked!

Boooo :( Like LEGOs aren't already expensive as it is. I really want that set though :( I'll wait till Aug :/

Australia Tax. Suck it up, fellas :).

Looks like the Target near me has the POTC ships and some of the HP stuff on clearance. The only HP set I want is the Knight Bus, and that's $30. I do want one of the PotC ships, but what's the better build? Black Pearl or the Anne?

We only have the queen Anne's revenge but it's a great looking set. Black pearl looks smaller and less interesting IMO. Plus the QAR would be easier to modify into another ship

I've never understood buying a set (or one set over another) based on the minifigs. I buy for the model only. But then I don't collect the CMFs either

What's hard to understand? Minifigs are half the fun of Lego for many people and they certainly are a pretty crucial part of recreating scenes. Lego knows this too and spread out the licensed minifigs in the most annoying way possible across sets.

Nicoga, is that the Extreme Cruiser? Ironically, Toys R Us in Australia actually has that on sale for 80AUD, which is pretty damn good.

Do you recommend it?

Good eye - yes it is!

If that price is a good price (I don't know the conversion nor what it would regularly go for), and you're into/interested in Technic, it's a FANTASTIC buy. It was my first larger Techinic set and it delivers on all accounts. It gives you a feel for some basic mechanics, has a V4 engine (which is a blast to assemble and see in motion), and an excellent B-Model (which is the one I'm building now).

yup, you can see this in the recent Avengers/LoTR sets lol

Been following this thread for ages, and at the weekend i had a chance to go through all my old lego from when i was a kid as we're moving house and it needed 'sorting out' ;) Few missing/broken bits but i made a list and will see how much replacing those bits will cost me at the lego store.

Also, a bunch of us got one of our colleagues a set for his 40th birthday - he made a cool little time lapse of him building it. I'll share that when i can find the link :P

What you've got there is my childhood - right there. So awesome... so many memories. Thanks for sharing!!!

It's really unfortunate that the B-Wing is $200. The price per piece count is pretty despicable and kind of ruins my otherwise wild hype for the ship.

It is really ridiculous that LEGO is doing that. They really are gouging you Star Wars LEGO fans bad lately...

I'm hoping it will be a situation like UCS Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter where it's overpriced, no minifigure, not such an iconic ship and doesn't sell well. LEGO has since put some serious discounts on that set since its release. I will not be buying the B-Wing right away in hopes of poor sales and an eventual discount.

I think that this pricing is the new standard for UCS sets. Let's take a look:

2010 UCS Jedi Starfighter = 14.8 ppp
2011 Super Star Destroyer = 12.7 ppp
2012 R2-D2 = 8.5 ppp
2012 B-wing = 13.4 ppp

Looking at it this way, the ppp is not out of line. Sure, the R2-D2 set was unusually cheap for a Star Wars set, but I think it is the outlier since LEGO probably expects lower sales on it.

Going forward, I would expect to see similar pricing on SW UCS ships.

However, if it has low sales they might reconsider doing so many UCS sets a year in the future. Not likely, but still a remote possibility.

Also, the B-Wing will sell better than the Obi Wan fighter. It may not be the most iconic original trilogy ship, but it is still original trilogy. And that stuff is what the older fans want.

I would prefer it if they would keep it to one SW UCS set a year, and expand the program to other themes, like LotR/Hobbit.

Lego first justified some of the higher prices (Jabba's Palace, Forest Police) by saying the sets used new molds. I'm not sure what's up with Haunted House or the Star Wars UCS (sans R2) sets.

Not that I overly like Kreo or the offbrand competition, but everyone benefits if those companies level up and keep Lego honest.

Haunted House is actually a decent price, in the USA at least. 2064pcs for $180.

Though yes, Jabba's Palace is by far the biggest culprit here, and new molds don't justify it.

Agreed on that. I like thinking that there is only one major set a year. Makes it feel more special, and makes my wallet weep less. I am so glad I only have one modular left to go, now I only need to get one of those a year.

And UCS LOTR stuff could be godly. Please...

The USA price for Haunted House is below the $.10 a brick threshold though.
With the SSD, I am thinking the price is higher per brick because of the large number of wing pieces and bigger parts. (Well, there are tons of little pieces too).
The B-Wing it could be the custom colored tread or those new anchor plates being new to the set or something.
