I so want that Bag End, but I hate to think what it would cost in Canada. I'm also kind of into the simplicity of Gandalf Arrives (though part of me like the traditional Lego horses).
My daughter and I found these very green guys clearanced for five bucks today:
They also had some Star Wars sets, but it wasn't all that discounted and all crappy episode 1-3 stuff.
Just mucking around with the army men makes me wonder where all of my old army men are...probably still in ziploc bags somewhere in my parents' basement. I'm so going through my toys next time I'm home (mostly to see what Lego I have and to bring my massive collection of baseplates here).

Alright, due to popular demand here are some interior shots of the mini-modular Pet Shop I replicated recently.

Ok so these two images are of the first floor of the Pet Shop. The trick to get the front to look like it does in the original photo is to connect the back and the front with the same piece. Then you put two lantern pieces on the connecting piece and the upper floor's plate will connect to them for what I'm pretty sure is a perfect fit.

These two above images are of the second floor and show how you can make the evenly spaced windows connect to the rest of the structure.

And these are pics of the first floor of the apartment building. I used the same method as before to connect the front and back of the floor. Occasionally the front or back wall on one of these seems to stick off the side by a hair, but I think it might be a loose connection or something somewhere. As long as you don't separate the buildings you'll probably never see it anyways.
These is one TINY thing that bugs me a bit, and it's that the last step leading to the door of the apartment leaves an itty bitty gap on the side of the building. It's hardly noticable and is probably all but invisible is you use all the same color right around it.
ACTUALLY, now that I look at it, if I use one of these pieces I can use the rail as the step and I wont need to have to place the middle which causes that gap! Yay!

Think so. Pretty sure lego LOTR is all they're doing as far as medieval stuff goes right now.

Target here didn't have any LOTR at all. Everything was a bit higher than MSRP too. I bought the Blue Roadster anyway, even though i have one coming from amazon, just cuz I couldn't wait to start on the MOCing.

I have noticed that on some sets Target is climbing above msrp lately. I swear the Millenium Falcon went up in price there.

It is my technicolor remix of a Flickr picture of a Mini-Modular version of the Pet Shop.

I just wanted to see if I could build it satisfactorily before I bought all the correctly colored pieces.
The majority of the pieces came from my disassembled Cool Cruiser set, which is why it is mostly made of bright primary colors.

Sorry, I meant (by saying you can still buy it in Holland) that is was not recalled. At least not in Holland. You can buy it on Lego.nl and other Dutch toy sites.

Slightly on that topic, I've found that bag mixing on Technic isn't NEARLY as daunting as it is when System building.

I have two Supercars (I love the B-Model a lot, too), but the Excavator has some KILLER power functions. It just depends on which route you want go with Technic. I would say the Excavator is a great buy at 20% off, but the Supercar is INCREDIBLY cool.

Excavator came out in 2010
Super Car came out in 2011
So I'd say yeah, Excavator is closer. It's $80 more expensive, less pieces, but again, the Power Functions make it worth it. Very high dollar parts!

I think half of them are great and half are meh. Some thoughts:
-finally an accurate Santa with something other than a recolored pirate rag on his head
-diving bell guy may be my favorite of this group
-the shakespearean actor is also pretty sweet
-conquistador, pirate, bavarian and football player are all welcome additions
-lots of recolors and remoldings here.... time to wrap this concept up, LEGO?
-alien queen is cool if you bought into the conquest sets
ALSO, my number one beef with these series... WHY NO BACK PRINTING? I mean, these are collectible and cost a premium as such, and they obviously have no problem with doing so for set minifigs.

An image of what appears to be a Joker minifig from a 2013 Arkham set. It leaked out yesterday, but was quickly removed. We should see more today.

Some figures I like in series 8, but nothing that is like "OMG! MUST GET!" I guess I was right in saying that all the even numbered series are meh while the odd numbered ones are awesome. (That first pic makes it look like the robot is holding the pretzel at first glance)
It does seem that a lot of things in that series are rehashes of older figures. Either from the mini fig line itself or from other regular sets. It is nice to get variants of harder to find figures (due to whatever they are from being OOP or if you are late to the mini fig party like I am), but it is a bit disappointing as well.
I will still be getting them all, but not as excitedly as I did with series 7.

As someone who didnt get into the Minifigs until Series 5 was everywhere en masse. I'm really excited for this set. Alien, Pirate, Diver, ManBat, Robot, English Gentleman, Bavarian, Santa, Shakespere, and Conquistador are all great and must haves. My daughter will want an army of Faries, and I wouldnt be dissapointed if I got the Skier, DJ or Football player.
That Cheerleader can piss-off though.

It just occurred to me. Fairy wings will be the new hot accessory for mini figs. Deadpool or Hulk rocking those wings will be great.

It was recalled because the Linear Actuators were failing to raise the arm efficiently. It was completely pulled from the Lego online store (and Amazon, Toys R US etc) until they got to the bottom of it. It took a while and they started contacting customers. Lego phoned me a few times to discuss the product and its problems. They even got kids in Denmark to take their models into Lego HQ so the designers could see the models..
And yes GAF, people were building them correctly. They sent out replacement parts (with additional parts for further issues with the kit - the left side track was slipping due to a poorly designed fixture inside) to all customers.
At one point they took a huge number of them from stock (200 I think) and built them, and then started to see the problem.
I made this video of my model in action. Listen to how the motors are struggling to raise the arm. This was with fresh Duracell batteries.
