Now you're thinking with legos. But of course you'd have to MOC a siege-engine in the style of the monster fighter vehicles.

OMFG. Thank you. That sounds like an awesome idea! Of course, Lego already did that:

But something with a giant tower and grappling hook or something would be really neat. Just put giant spiked wheels on it or something.

Yeah I was imagining a medieval tower thing done with the monster fighters aesthetic. The ones with the ramp for unloading atop the walls, like in the big Gondor battle in LotR.

Like a steampunk siege tower from hell. Man, I love that idea. Just spikes and horrible stuff everywhere. I might have to move to that now and abandon my current modular MOC. That sounds like a really neat idea.

I really want to see more of the Blacktron brewery though.

Started on the second floor tonight. Might do the exterior then do the interior details afterwards. It will be delayed because my birthday gift to myself, Pet Shop, should be delivered tomorrow.

Well don't worry, he isn't planning to buy the castle, so the siege engine would juuuuuuuuust be pointless.... unless..... no of course not. self control and all that.

I am not planning on the castle right now. :) And if I do build the stone fence for the Haunted House, then a siege engine could be cool. Or just build it and have it assault Helm's Deep instead. Like the Monster Fighters invaded Middle Earth.

the monster fighter sets have alot of the old time cruisers in them.
they where fun stuff when i was younger :)

I will post pics of the stand I made when I get home. :)

EDIT: And back home from work. I posted these pics a few months ago, but if anyone is looking for stands for the Sex Wing and Y-Wing, here is what I did.

It props the ships up, and gives them the appearance of flying around. Simple and easy to assemble, and rather stable. You can gleam most of what I did just by glancing at the pics. Clicking them will go to the full resolution ones to get a better idea. I tried making a similar stand for the TIE Fighter, but the huge wings make it very difficult to make it look like the ship is banking, and there is not much area for a stand to connect.

Amazing photos mate. Great work.

So using the TRU $15 off of $50 coupon, and a second transaction for the $5 off anything coupons, I picked up 17 series 8 Blindpacks yesterday. For once I didnt feel them out wanting to be surprised. I should have felt them out :/

2 Skiiers
2 Pirates
1 Conquistador
2 Bats (3 total now)
1 Alien Queen (2 total now)
2 DJs
2 Cowgirls
1 Robot (2 total now)
1 Cheerleader
2 Football Players
1 Bavarian

Between that and my initial order I'm still missing Santa and the Gentleman, two of the ones I wanted most :(

Santa Swampy must live!

I just bought my first sets of these.

I bought 3, two from series 7 and one from series 6.

I liked the Space Marine, and lo, opened it and got the Space Marine!
I gave the series 6 one to my wife, and she claimed she liked the Statue of Liberty one, and Lo! She got it!

We didn't open the third ;)

QAR was on Clearance at my Walmart. I didn't buy one, but I almost did! They had a good number last night, but who knows how fast they'll disappear.

Hopefully the second one will bring the zombie prices on Bricklink down, but eitherway i'm interested in them both, even if they are palette swaps.

With Santa, feel around for the bag. It will feel like a misshapen head with a tip on it.

ARAK-N3 (referred to as Shagohod in my household), is done and properly photographed!

As always, a highly impressive piece of lego Engineering by Mahjqa, and as he was generous enough to provide instructions how to build it, I couldn't resist. I added some custom styling to it, hoping to make it looks more like some kind of NASA exploration vehicle, and less like utility factory robot as was his original intention. Here's the result. I should really make a video of it, it's very fun seeing how it walks and rolls at the same time. It looks like it's skating across the floor.

I'm into Star Wars ships and I just finished my first modular, the fire brigade.

What should I do next? I was thinking about either another modular or a ship. The Fury Interceptor at $70 from Amazon seems very tempting.

Also, what are some good ways to display my LEGO stuff? For reference, my wife and I live in a tiny loft condo in Chicago's West Loop and floor space is at a minimum. Additionally, our furniture is classic modern (think Room & Board, Design Within Reach, some West Elm) so she's not going to let me just throw up an curio cabinet from a garage sale (oh, how I've tried, haha). We have 12 foot ceilings throughout so I've been leaning towards installing shelves. However, I haven't decided what they should look like, if there should be one huge shelf or many different shelves at different heights and I'm kind of hoping I can get glass covers to avoid a lot of dusting. I know this all very specific, but does anyone have any ideas? Or have you seen any unique ways online that people present their stuff?

The Walmart here has the TIE on sale for $40. I don't think I need a second one though.

Picked up Werewolf at Target. They had a special As Advertised sticker on it so I thought it was on sale but it was actually still $2 over MRSP

Dear GAF LEGO,

I am a Quadriplegic of eight years now so unfortunately I haven't been able to play errr I mean work with my Lego!

Fortunately, my new German neighbour of about one year across the street has a 10-year-old son who really loves Lego (and video games). So I have become a friend of his of sorts and played video games with him and whatnot. But now I really want to build somebody go with them whether it is the architect series or not but when I was browsing I remembered the Lego Technic Series with the motors, control unit and sensors and whatnot. So I thought it would be really need to be able to teach him about programming and at the same time build some cool Lego. Unfortunately, the main kit is $350 Canadian :o

So, should I buy the main kid or would it be better off piecing together something? Or where should I go to get a better deal than directly from Legos website? Do you guys have any suggestions for some projects we should take on first or any good websites to learn from or ideas we can build?

Ideally I'd like to buy motor kit but I do not have a lot of excess money but I am interested in plunking down some money for a few cool projects!

Thanks again,

Brad

I haven't touched a motorized set in years. I recently found a box with some motorized Technics pieces in it though and if they are still functional, they are yours-you are in Toronto right?

I just watched your video on the Lokomat. You are fucking amazing.

I didn't really enjoy building this Werewolf tree and the whole time I was thinking it was way too symmetrical for a tree. But now that it's done it looks pretty cool and I like the play feature and that it looks just as tree-like with the flip thing open or closed. Which is not that tree-like. But I guess it's supposed to be a Monster crystal alter or something. I'm not in on the backstory.

But I mainly got it for the Werewolf minifig. The car is cooler than I expected.

I'd say go to Bricklink and order some technic parts and one NXT motor, a control module and an ultrasonic sensor. You can make something with those for a lot less than $350. That is what I'd do if I was into programmable lego stuff. Or for greater convenience try buying used NXT set off of Bricklink. There's a used one here for $250 that lets you build a whole walking robot: http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?itemID=59190

If you want to make RC models, there's different motors and remote controls you can get. They go under Power Functions name, and you can order them for cheapest off of lego's own web store.

Yeah... The car, the Monster Fighter, and the Werewolf are great. The tree didn't blow my socks off, but it's got some decently uncommon pieces if you like to MOC.

On an unrelated topic, I recently scored the Troll Battle Wheel for just $24 in like new condition.. That's 508 pieces at less than 5 cents/piece!! And I added three more trolls and three more Crownies to my armies. Up to like 23 trolls and well over 30 crownies, which has me excite.

The Battle Wheel itself was one of my least favorite builds. It's an exercise in tedium. But, damn, the finished product is impressive. Just an awesome siege device with amazing playability for kids. And it has some GREAT pieces for MOCing. I'm absolutely thrilled. I tried posting some pics to Flickr before, but the Flickr site was giving me an error message. If I remember, I'll try again later. My Classic Castle collection is becoming really impressive. Fantasy-Era Castle is so ridiculously awesome, but it's SO EXPENSIVE. It's not even just people asking for insane prices, some folks are PAYING stupid amounts. I got the Drawbridge Defense set a couple weeks ago for $40, and I just saw one go for $160 on eBay. And mine is in GREAT condition, 100% complete.

Hmm. Amazon's standards for original boxes are pretty high. Just got GE a few minutes ago and noticed the box only really had damage where it gets pushed in near the edges like weight got onto it from the middle since the edges of any box are definitely much stiffer and mostly the print turning white from rubbing other stuff and what not all around the edges. It's not like a permanent thing either, more like you can push it and it'll go in a little and come back out. In short, it's like the thing sat around and got moved around a lot over the past year but never got sold.

Or maybe my standards for boxes are low. Nevertheless, saving $27 isn't bad at all.

Edit: $347.99 for a Super Star Destroyer with the "Like New" designation on Amazon Warehouse. Link here

Hey, mine arrived, too. Mine was a bit crushed on the corners, but it had also been re-taped shut. I took out the bags quick, and found out 1-2 of them were open. Since I now know how many there should be for each numbered group, I will count them later to make sure they are all there.

Otherwise, still worth the discount. :)

Oh, I got my Falcon warehouse deal "like new" for $110 and I forgot it was a warehouse deal. It looks perfect to me. Box is sealed, no dents. I've gotten regular Lego orders in the mail that had more box damage than this.

Oh wait, on close inspection there's a crease down the middle but barely noticeable.

Could you clearly tell that it'd been re-taped? Mine looks like it still has the original tape on it so I haven't really bothered. I should probably go check though.

Edit: All sealed and accounted for and definitely original tape. No complaints. Since I opened it, I guess I'll start some tonight. Medieval Market Village can wait since it hasn't been opened and doesn't have as big of a box to take up space on the shelf.

Half of Pet Shop done. Awesome build so far. Leaving the Pet Shoo half for tomorrow, but love it so far. Favorite part is the incredibly simple detail involving the mini fig on the second floor of the townhouse, a detail I did not notice when I stupidly looked at the instructions months ago. The surprises are the best parts of the modulars.

Today was daddy/daughter Lego day, and we snagged the Heartlake Flying Club (or something like that) and Shelob. The flying club looked like a lot of fun to build, especially the plane. Not my favorite $20 Friends set but it's up there.

Shelob is a terrible build but I've already gotten a ton of mileage out of posing her eating this, and then obliterating that, and so on. She's just fun.

The Shelob build was not that bad, but the insane pose ability of her makes it a highly recommended set. Also, it is the only way to get Sam and Gollum.

Terrible might be too strong a word, yeah, but roughly half the build is doing the same thing eight times in a row (as one might expect) or fiddling with string.

I thought the legs were too stiff when I was putting them together but they're perfect. They did a great job with them.

Where'd you get the Battle Wheel for so little? Looks like lots of fun to play with and would go great with Helm's Deep.

Unrelated, while GISing the Battle Wheel I came across this Castle themed Death Star MOC: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=4371337

Yup, I'm already altering the Werewolf tree and will probably just use it for MOCing.

If you want a REALLY terrible build you should do the White House Architecture set. There are 16 of the exact same columns you need to make made up of a bunch of 1x1 plates.

Snapping all of those together AND twisting them so that they line up perfectly was absolutely grueling. At least the set looks nice once it's all over.

Ikea detolf gets a lot of recommendations. Cheap but nice looking, narrow glass display cabinet. Might be a litle narrow for large sets though. Alternatively open hidden shelves could be nice but you'll need to keep the dust off. I currently use a tall glass AV unit with 5 shelves. It's fairly narrow so tucks into a spare space in the room, and because it's open I can fit slightly larger sets that can just overlap the edges a bit. We also have a low bookcase for the kids toys, and I use the too of that for large items. Currently I have the imperial shuttle others and two trains (emerald night and maersk).

If you think doing that 16 times is annoying, don't build Tower Bridge.

I loved the White House build. Sure, the 16x steps are annoying, but the end result is so worth it.
