What's the longest amount of time you've ever been awake?

Mine is 8 days, the summer I got my Xbox. Me and my friend only really played the Xbox for like 16 hours in the first 2 days, but after that, it was trying to see how long we could stay up. Around the 5th, we started seeing little things, like figures in the way the paint is formed on the wall, etc. The morning of the 8th day was really bad though. Around 3 am til we fell asleep at 11 am, it was like I was on acid or something. I would walk into a room and stand there for a few minutes and then try and figure out why and how I got in there. My friend told me he was on the couch talking to a goblin. One of the final straws was when, from what my friends told me, I got on the internet like at 1 in the morning, and then got off around 3. Around 7 AM I decided to get on the internet and when I get on, they were like "where'd you go? You just logged off after rambling." I started arguing telling them that I'd been watching TV most of the night. Around 11 while watching Pulp Fiction, I couldn't resist anymore and just went to sleep. So, so good.

9 and a half days of hell. Dont know how i did it but it was hell. I didnt even have the internet back then. So i was playing my N64 with goldeneye oot and some other games for 9 days straight my n64 died. Thank you nintendo for replacing it for free. God knows why i was up for that long but i was off my rocker.

Only two days, I had trouble sleeping. It's happened a bit more this summer, when it used to happen almost never.

holy shit.

Is it actually possible to for you to go 200 hours without sleep? Wtf? O_o

24-30 hours can't really remember, but it's around there.
It was the weekend my thesis was due, i thought i had everything under control... but as it turned out there was still heaps for me to do. So for that weekend (not really weekend thurs-fri-sat-sun-mon) I only got 1 or 2 hours sleep here and there.

3 days, multiple times > LAN-parties.

Plus one intercontinental flight which fucked me up good. (can't sleep in planes)

I think 4 days, then I'm pretty sure I slept through that night as well as the next day and night.

Probably ~36 hours. I can't even imagine going more than two days. Even at such a relatively small amount of time gone without sleeping, the concept of times of day can become confusing when "yesterday" is instead "earlier today" in your head.

After reading the first few posts, a quick Google search said the longest known time a person has gone without sleep is 11 days and change.

3 Days. Was doing an anime marathon type thing.. Then after that, I reacher the past of tiredness and /couldn't/ sleep. :lol

Oh, and staying up for gaming is not a good idea. Just do a search for any korean dying from playing games, it happens there like every 4 months or something, usually it's after 2-3 days of gaming.

32 hours... went to class all day, came home, played video games, went to work my 3rd shift job, came home, played some FIFA, went to class, ate, another class, then back to bed.

i've gotten better at it. at first it was like, once I hit 30 hours, i'd start to see shit. but now i'm used to pulling 24+ hr turns, so Im pretty good up until 30 hours. My bitch is the consistency... I can go and go on small amounts of sleep. it sucks, but I can. I've gone upwards of 60 hours on less than 3 hours sleep before. now THAT sucked... almost tried to rake a forrrest with my sandtrap machine at work, lol. ruh roh....

They're weaksauce gamers, go to big LAN-parties (1000+ people) - I can guarantee you that 15% of the people there will NOT sleep at all. (getting up Friday morning for work, play games from Friday 18:00 till Sunday 18:00, going to bed Sunday around 00:00) this is more than 60 hours already.

And I've never heard someone dying after going to a LAN-party. Key to this is eating reguraly, drinking a LOT (water, not solely Red-Bull / Bawls etc) and having fun I guess

48 hours when I went to Portugal back in '95. I was really tired after 40 hours but I wanted to at least get to 48 hours because I knew that I'd never want to try it again.

There's a reason why sleep deprivation is commonly accepted as the most effective technique for information extraction/behavioral adjustment in the intelligence community. People can be trained to not break under most physical and psychological forms of torture... sleep deprivation is the one thing proven to either: a. work in all cases or b. cause the person recieving the treatment to go insane.

Even the mighty Jack Bauer would fall if the bad guys had longer than 24 hours to work on him... :D

3 out of 48 million a year seems like pretty good odds to me. ;) Safer than escalators!

Only about 35 hours. The first time was weird cause I baked blueberry muffins and went for a jog outside. Second time I made quiches while I was listening to Stern and playing FFX2 to get it over with. The third time was a few weeks ago when I tried to sleep at 'regular' hours by letting myself lose sleep. Didn't work out so good. I ended up sleeping for like 12+ hours. Aaaah, summer is good. :D

Longest I've been awake was 8 days, I just couldn't sleep, it was the weirdest feeling, by the 6th day without sleep I was totally out of it, everything seemed hilarious, even pouring a glass of OJ made me crack up. Lost my appetite, morning always gave me a strange feeling in my stomach that made me sick. You get to a point where you pray for death :P
I don't think I could ever do that again, but on the norm I do stay awake 32-48hours

Perhaps he means he was up for 24 hours then slept for 3 hours then was up for another 23 hours?
Haha, in that case, okey dokey. I do that sometimes, although it's more like, I start feeling really tired, so I nod off about every other minute for 10 minutes and I can usually finish the night.(night job)

~35 hours. I've done it several times, generally because I need to pull an all-nighter and then I force myself to stay awake so I can go to sleep at a reasonable time.

Jesus Christ. 9 and a half days..... voluntary.... without any particular incentive. You've got me curious now. What the hell was going on in your head?

About 36 hours. Last minute project/ presentation preparations. I'm usually the upbeat and cheery sort...so many of my friends couldnt recognize me after the 30th hour. I was a bloody walking time bomb... espically considering the fact that the whole thing could have been avoided if my group mates had followed my instructions

I have real, real trouble breaking a sleeping pattern suddenly, so if it's got to the point where I've been waking up later and later each day until I was going to bed at 5 in the morning and getting up in the afternoon, and all of a sudden I have to be up at 8 in a couple days time, I just have to stay up a whole night to stop it. So generally about 35 hours must be my max.

However, having read through this thread I'm really, really tempted to see how many days I could do. God knows how many lasagnas I'll make (I love lasagna but it takes me ages to make, I think it's the amount of time I suddenly have to fill which causes me to make it at 4 in the morning everytime I stay up a whole night).

Yeah, voluntarily going more than like 3-4 days isn't normally possiblefor most people. You've got to have something pretty crazy going on.

62 hours... 2 all nights and work shifts in between which dragged to the 3rd day. Then I slept for 18 hours.

Right now im riding on 23 hours.

35 hours and it happened just last Saturday and Sunday actually. I used to work the night shift and I had to readjust back to normal sleeping patterns. For the last 3-4 hours, I wanted to fall asleep but for the sake of readjusting, I had to stay up.

Usually I'm the kind of guy that needs his eight (or sometimes more) hours of sleep a day so other than adjusting for work, thats it for crazy sleep patterns.

11 days minus 2 periods of backouts that could have lasted 20mins. This was start day after surgery. I was so dillusional, having bad thoughts it was not funny.

40 hours without chemical help. 4 days with coffee + pills. I was really fucked up when i only slept 2-4 hours per night during two months, behind a wheel i was more dangerous than when i was drunk. I spend two weeks in my bed after that.

i know it ended up being something around 40+ by the time it was all said and done...

it went like this...

worked till 1am... went home and slept for 2 hours. god up and drove to train station to take train to NYC. sat in line to get passes for NIN album signing. went to hang around new york for a bit, then back to get in line because the signing was at 5pm that night. did the whole signing thing, caught a train back to NJ, drove back home. was home for 10 minutes, THEN WENT TO WORK MY OVERNIGHT SHIFT AGAIN.

driving home after that shift i was seeing things. i drove over a bridge every night, and i was seeing dark figures jumping from light pole to light pole. :lol

around 2 days I think probably.

I don't actually believe the 1st and 3rd posters that said 8 and 9 days either. I think a doctor would argue with them....

I thought at around 3 days you begin to hallucinate and by the 5th you wouldn't actually be aware of much. My disbelief doesn't count the surgery guy though.

48 hours exactly. I remember realizing that I had been up for forty hours and then just made it my goal to hit 48....that last hour was hell because I was staying at a friends house and her dad was watching Casino and it was night and the lights were off. My muscles were spasming and shit. I too saw the dancing light that night.

Now...as far as longest sleep, that'd be about 19 and a half hours straight. This is WITHOUT the assistence of sleeping pills. I was pretty pissed when I woke up.

~72 hrs. I dunno how you guys can stay up past 3 days. By my 3rd day I was hallucinating and couldnt take it anymore. lol. This was like 7 yrs ago tho..

I think I broke about 35-40. But then I was a wreck too. Amazes me to hear about people staying up 4 days for an architecture project. I mean, I would be worthless after 30 hours... how can you keep going?

Almost 2 weeks, due to panic attacks, psychosematic pain and other mental disorders. My 18th year wasn't fun.

Nearly 14 days? Why aren't you in the Guiness Book of World Records?

The longest time I stayed up was near *7 days, over a Christmas holiday I spent with friends. It was pretty boring that year, and so we had a bet over who could stay up for the longest amount of time. However, it got way out of hand and basically turned into a huge pride thing. We were fucking drinking coffee by the bins and shit by the end, trying to prolong our waking hours.

20 something odd hours. We were moving to Germany and we hd an incredibly long delay at the airport then had to fly to some place in Germany and fly a military CARGO plane to our base.

People were so sick after that. It was hell.
