Ah, shit, I forgot all about this; I'm still at the university.

Now I'm going to miss the repeat of the premiere and the new episode, aren't I? :(

Entire thing, both episode, airs Saturday night on ABC.

Tonight is just the second part...which I am eagerly awaiting. Because I can't watch it yet.

Actually, just "Lost".

I kind of regret already seeing the 2nd part now. I've got two weeks to wait between episodes.

Man, they are milking the hell out of this premier. What is this, the 3rd time they've shown it? Show the new stuff already!

Great, now if I can just remember to stop playing Monster Hunter long enough to watch... I mean, studying. Studying for my Professional Ethics exam. That's what I'll be doing Saturday night. Yessir.

;)

Dear god cant stand all the commercial breakes. 5 min in commercial. Were back! 5 min in...blah

That asian guy is so gonna get his dick bitten off by his oppressed wife :D

And damn! The big guy sure got HUGE compared to when he was Sugar Daddy on that show Popular and in Varsity Blues.

*Edit* Or is that even him?

A polar bear on a tropical island? I don't believe that big creature is a polar bear! If it is, weaksauce!

No. This is the 2nd part of the premier. This is the first time they are showing it. They showed the first part only one time, last Wednesday. The will show both parts back-to-back on Sunday.

Damnit, I missed the first third of the episode. Have to watch Saturday now.

Even though I watched this a month ago (downloaded), I had to see it again. :D Awesome episode...But I'm just waiting for next week. The preview looked great. Ooo I can't wait. Best show of the season. It makes me sick to see previews for The Bachelor and Wife Swap during every break, and even popping up during the broadcast. If this ever gets pulled in favor of a show made of pure shit like one of those two, the world is unjust. :P

that was f'in cool... hopefully it wont degenrate into an alias state of affairs where we never get any answers, but it should be a fun ride for a while at least.

damn, this show is pretty good. Does anyone know if this is planned (if succesful) as a long term, multi-season type of show, or is it pretty much a one season and done mini-series type of thing. I actually think it'd be cool if it was the former, sort of like a more serious Gilligan's Island.

It is planned as a long term show....Although if this season is its only one, they have plans to answer all questions raised this year. It can be self-contained, but they hope for it to be many seasons. The exec producers have commented many times on their long term hopes for the show, vague ones of course, but still. Although, very few shows are planned as a "One season and done" show. A mini series might run 8 episodes and end, but this is a regular show, with high aspirations. Here's a good piece from David Fury, the producer, and ex Buffy writer.

David Fury, co-executive producer of ABC's upcoming SF series Lost, told SCI FI Wire that one of the most mysterious characters on the new series about plane crash survivors stranded on a mysterious South Pacific island is the island itself. "It is very interesting and has its own mythology that will hopefully unfold over many seasons," Fury (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) said in an interview. "We are hearing and seeing very odd occurrences, like a polar bear on the island. How does something like that happen in the South Pacific?"

"This is not a show about the supernatural, despite the fact that we have a very huge creature that likes to eat people. Despite the surreal, bizarre aspects of the island, there will be an explanation for it. It may not come for a very long time, but certain information about the island will explain how things are possible. We'll try to root it in real science or real pseudo-science. There will be no mystical reason or an island of monsters. The island has been around for millennia, and many people have found themselves on it, and as far as we know, nobody has ever gotten off. There is also the possibility of others being on the island, they just haven't seen them yet. And we'll never know how big this island is. It could be enormous, but odd things will keep them from knowing the full length and breadth of it. It's an interesting little allegory. It will be very mysterious."

www.lost-tv.com says "LOST Premiere Finishes 9th!
The LOST premiere finished 9th over-all last week, with a total of 18.7 million viewers" :D :D :D :D :D

The big guy sure got HUGE compared to when he was Sugar Daddy on that show Popular and in Varsity Blues.

The guy on Lost is a different person. The guy from Popular and VB actually got a a gastric bypass. He's down around 160lbs now. He was on ET a few months ago, you couldn't even tell it was the same person.

This is the first time I have sat down and watched a network TV series that was actually entertaining in years! I plan on sticking with this one. It looks like a winner. Plus "Charlie" from Party of Five was one of my favorite actors on that show. And man, that Korean dude is an asshole. His wife is hot though....

I've just started watching Season 1 of Alias, too. I'm about nine episodes in.

When you say that they don't resolve certain things, are you talking about Rambaldi? Yes/no, please. I don't want anything spoiled.

I can answer that question.

Yes. Rambaldi's involvement is an example of an Alias state of affairs...I will say that as the puzzle begins to make more sense, it poses new questions.

Alias just sucks.. they keep developing new plot twist upon plot twist and never bother to explain what the hell is actually going on at any point in time.

In any case, that is where most of these shows fail.. trying to resolve the problems they set up.. almost anyone can write a good suspensfull/wierd story and keep your interest in it.. the trick is going to be resolving them without resorting to nonsensical jargain (see Star Trek, especially TNG), deus ex la machina (see most hollywood 'thriller' movies) or simply not answering them (see aformentioned Alias or a shitload of anime).

So far this show is getting a nice A+ from me, we'll see how it develops.

I caught the second part of the pilot last night. I thought it was great!! ABC really pulled it out for this one, and I'm sure the Sci-Fi channel is embarrased yet again that some other network does the genre way better than they do in any of their productions.

It would seem like the production of the show would be a nightmare in itself though - where do they shoot it?

I'll have to watch the rebroadcast of both on Saturday since I didn't get to see the first part last week.

I have to disagree with that. TNG in particular was pretty good about wrapping up loose ends in believable ways that worked within the mythos of the universe and the pseudo-science that exists in the show (though there are a few too many dips into the "holodeck" well). Voyager was a much worse offender concerning the nonsensical jargon solutions to problems - "Oh no, the Borg . . . again . . . what will we do? I know, let's shoot this beam of radishes into the collective's bung hole, which will surely initiate spirited banter between the Captain and the Borg Queen, at which point our single starship will bring the entire collective to its knees even though they were capable of obliterating the entire fleet in 'Best of Both Worlds' with only one cube!!

Ok, I just watched what was apparently the second episode last evening. It was pretty decent. What time are they rerunning both episodes on saturday?

I believe 8/7c.

On this episode...I felt it did suspense worse than the first part, intrigue better. The questions asked and answered over the course of the episode, "
What handcuffs, why the fuck is there a polar bear on an island, why were French people once stranded on this island 16 years and five months ago that started a distress signal...and how the fuck is it still playing after that long?
"

There was no big "Running through the woods" shot in this part of the pilot. Instead, this was all about how you set up a multi-season series about people deserted on an island. And it works. In some ways, that is how maybe the pilot would have been better served to air as two hours. I found this episode much slower, although more interesting, than the pilot, and think it would have been more flowing to have them run back to back.

For the first part, you get hooked by the atmosphere and the character. This week, it's all about the characters and the questions about the island. This stuff is like crack.

Can't wait until next week.

Towards the end of the shows run it got pretty bad about it on TNG I thought.. with about 10 minutes left Jordy would reroute the phase modulation of the warp core to pulsate at 18 metocromes a second, which would allow the enterprise to break free from whatever the fuck. Its these types or endings which to me will allways make the original series, despite its infinite cheesieness a better show. I agree Voyager was much worse in this regard (In fact, it was a terrible show all around), but Enterprise doesnt really do any of this stuff nor did DS9.. mostly because those shows dont generally go into the same sort of mysterious spatial anomoly episodes.

I wont be truly satisfied till i see treetop houses, monkey butlers, and electricity generated by water mills.

what the fuck a polar bear? erm, maybe its an island where some guy put all the worlds biggest predators...and an elephant, and then made them all mate with the elephant to make loads of super big predators that like dropping half eaten corpses in trees.

Ratings held pretty well from last week, only a slight drop but the same share, so the force is still strong with this one.

A very good question...he didn't let his wife eat it, very true. For that reason, maybe he gave some to the people he wanted to die so he could...I don't even know. He's definitely an odd one.

But not as odd as Locke...who's reallly damn creepy. I wonder what his secret is.

I bet he knows what Gigaton is![/lame]

Also...music rocked. Again.

Yeah...that "Holy Shit" moment was more about how it's been transmitting all this time...and whether it's real or instead a combative signal to keep them those who land of the island from contacting others.

Yey! Now those of us who already saw the pilot can join in the new episodes fun.

I love this show (so far), best new thing since Firefly. Fortunately Lost is actually getting ratings, or the first part did anyway, not heard anything about the second yet.

I can't believe they stuck with that opening title swirling Lost sign though. Anyone could have made that as a windows screensaver. In fact, that's probably how it was made. I really thought that was just a placeholder for the pilot.

Have you not seen Alias' opening? Or lack thereof?

Ratings held about 90% of the viewers from last week, handedly won its time slot with about 16 million viewers. Same share of viewers as last week, ratings dipped a bit but still a very good performance. We'll see how the two-hour airing of the pilot goes on Saturday.

Alias' opening is fine. It has music, style, names flashing up...it was probably quite cheap to make, but Lost's is just ridiculous. Still, I hardly care if the opening is good or not, I just find it amazing that they went with it.

Glad to see it held on in the ratings, the loss of viewers is inevitable. Some people, no matter how good the show, inevitably won't like it.

Keeping the opening short and simple allows ABC to sell more advertising time in order to offset the higher cost of the show.

No, I think he was doing something along the lines of Sashimi for people to eat, showing others his mad fish catching skillz... and him being the dick as usual even though his wife was starving, won't let her eat any. (look at the buttoning of the top after him yelling to her and then when he left with the food, she unbuttoned it again.)

We know next week (from the preview) that what little airline food is left is now gone, so they're going to have to go the fish route... (or other things)

As far as the ratings, for #'s -
Part 1 - 11.6/19
Part 2 - 10.2/16
EDIT: The Bachelor, ABC's whole reason for not showing the whole pilot on the same night, had these ratings in comparison:
After Part 1 of Lost - 6.2/9
After part 2 - 5.7/9

I'll be interested to see what Saturday's numbers look like when they air both of them together (I'm sure more than a few people told friends to check it out when it airs then).

Damon Lindelof's (writer/creator/exec producer of the show) response to the ratings:
We're obviously in shock over how well the show did... but what REALLY thrills us is the fan response. Thank you SO much for your continued dedication to LOST -- we'll keep doing our best to earn the love...Hugs,Damon

Anyone notice any differences between the screener and the final pilot? I noticed at least once change where in the second half, when they're running from the polar bear, the original screener had music from Aliens but that was changed in the final version. Any other small changes like that?

I know that one of the major changes was the music; it was incomplete for the screener, I believe. Other than that, I'm under the impression that it wasn't in fact edited differently.

I noticed at least 4-5 changes in the first half alone.

I really liked the music when they were climbing the mountain in the second half (to test the tranceiver).

there's been discussion here on the differences between the original version and the aired one.

for example -

Hurley doesn't say "Plane Crash..." in a dazed sort of way...

The whole CPR/wing falling order was changed.

I also heard that they removed Jack's explanation for giving up his first class seat (haven't checked to see if they even mention him having one or how much was removed).

Check out the "Spanish Comic Book" post. I need to go back and check part 2 about that.

Some people poked around the net and found translations for the French and Korean spoken in the pilot. I'm putting Spoiler tags on these so you don't have to read them if you don't want to. I know some people prefer to be left in the dark and were offended by the subs on the first part of the pilot.

First the Korean:
Michael: Hey, have you seen my boy?
Korean Lady: I'm sorry, I can't speak English [blank staring] ... I can't speak English.
Koreany Dude: Your shirt's open, close it! Quickly!
Michael: ...

Kate: [washes]
Korean Lady: Excuse me (my korean ain't hip enough to give you 100% here, but yeah ... this is it in a gist, she might have also been saying something akin to "excuse me, miss"), but everything must be ready, they're all looking (for you).
Korean Dude: Hey you! (Or, the Korean equivalent to 'yo', actually) This is food, try one.
Hurly: S'up?
Korean Dude: This is sea urchin, it's really delicious. Try one.
Hurly: What, that?
Korean Dude: If you eat this, it'll give you some strength, it's okay to eat.
Hurly: What, eat that?
Korean Dude: *Eat it*, there's plenty, just - just *try* one ...
Hurly: Dude, dude ... I'm starving ...
Korean Dude: Yeah, yeah yeah ... (this makes me think he understands English)
Hurly: But not that starving. No thank you!

Incidently, there are certain ways to talk in Korean, you can say the same thing but depending upon certain words you add or don't add it can totally change the formality or the ... politeness of the words. Korean Dude is pretty polite to Hurly at first, if you notice he says "yo" at the end of each sentence - but as Hurly rejects him he gets a bit more abrupt, or less formal with him - language changes a bit. No more "yo", yo.

Also, he never speaks "politely" or respectfully towards his wife.

Korean Dude: This is *sea urchin*, try one.
Pregnant Lady: Er, nooo ... thank you.
Korean Dude: It's really important you eat this because of your baby, just have one. Have one. (I really don't think he was trying to poison her or anything here, because why would he tell her it's important she eat for her baby's sake if she doesn't understand what he's saying anyway?)
Pregnant Lady: [eats one]
Korean Dude: This one, yes ... eat it. There you go ... good isn't it? Have another one.
Pregnant Lady: [spazzes]
Korean Dude: What ... Are you okay? Are you okay?
Pregnant Lady: OMG FEEL THIS PLZTHX
Korean Dude: No, no, I don't want to, I don't want to ... Oh ..
Pregnant Lady: Do you feel that!?
Korean Dude: Oo ... I don't like it.
Pregnant Lady: That's a foot! That's a kick!
Korean Dude: Hand ... hand ... let go of my hand, will you?

He's polite to the pregnant lady through that whole thing, although he obviously thinks she's a bit of a freak.

and the French:

Picked this info from another site

"Well, as you know, I'm french and what i heard on the radio, at the end of the second part of the pilote episode, is quite different of what Shannon has translated...

This is what i think i have heard (sometimes it's difficult to hear properly because the characters are speaking over) :

"Je vais essayer d'aller jusqu'au rocher noir..." / "I am going to try to go to the black rock..."

then I think I've heard "venez nous aidez" / "Come to help us"

and "Si qui que ce soit puissiez entendre ceci" (In fact the sentence isn't correct, even in french but it can not be as bad as what i heard in Alias ) / It means : "If someone can hear this"

"Ils les ont tués...Ils les ont tués tous" / "They kill them... They kill them all"

and that's all"

EDIT: Hmm, seems someone did an alternate translation of the French...

Hi everybody,

i'm french and i wanted to give more informations about the radio message. Indeed, there are some mistakes.

It's not very easy to understand the message, even for a french, but here's what i heard:

"Il est dehors, il est dehors et Brandon a pris les clés..." / "He's outside, he's outside and Brandon took the keys..."

"Veuillez nous aider... ils sont morts, ils sont tous morts" / "Please help us... they 're dead, they're all dead"

"Si qui que ce soit puisse entendre ceci, je vais essayer d'aller jusqu'au rocher noir". The beginning of the sentence is not correct, that's for sure, but it means: "If someone can hear this, i'm gonna try to go to the black rock"

"Ils sont morts, il les a tués, il les a tués tous, je vais essayer d'aller jusqu'au rocher noir". Once again, it's not very correct. We don't say "il les a tués tous" but " il les a tous tués".
Well, it means: "They're dead, he killed them, he killed them all, i'm gonna try to go to the black rock".

When the french girl says "il les a tués", i've translated as "he killed them" but i could have translated as "it killed them" because i don't think it is a person who killed them. In french there's no diference between a person or a animal, we use the same pronoun "il", but in english you can say "it" for a dog for instance.

I hope i helped you out.

Oh yeah Lost on tonight for two hours!! First two eps and I'm psyched to see it. My first time tonight and reminder for all the people who missed it also.

I'm watching the second half again right now; it officially tells me that from now on, I have to watch shows in widescreen. So much nicer.

Still rules though.
