Awesome gamedev doc about Red Barrels and the rocky road to their first their first online MP game.
Interesting tidbits:
- Outlast 1 was made by 10 people, sold over 20 mil only in digital since release
- Playtest feedback on Trials in 2020 was rough, leading to major overhaul and internal delay of the game, initially planned for 2022.
- Trials eventually released in Steam Early Access on 18th May 2023 to 500k downloads in the first week, over a double of Outlast 2 and is considered Red Barrels biggest commercial success to date
- Full release on all platforms ETA is early 2024 with full PC and console cross play.
