The Man In My Basement | Psychological Thriller Trailer | Corey Hawkins, Willem Dafoe



Based on Walter Mosley's novel of the same name, the upcoming horror thriller stars Dafoe as businessman Anniston Bennet, who seeks to rent out the basement of Charles Blakey's (Corey Hawkins) home about to be on foreclosure. He brings a bizarre and lucrative proposition; rent his dusty stand-up basement out for the summer and Charles will receive enough money to clear his debts for good. Once Charles accepts, he finds himself led down a terrifying path.

Release date September 12th.

I hope I can trust the reviews and that it doesn't get reviewboosted just because it has a black director. I feel like Sinners got too positive reviews for such a disjointed movie. Not to mention Black Panther which was pretty basic.

I understand that reviewers want to support black directors as there's an overrepresentation in Hollywood of white and jewish directors, but it feels patronizing. Let their works stand on their own, like the excellent stuff from Jordan Peele.

In the past decade there have been some creative (or different) movies that take off and fly well in the first two acts, but then they don't know how to land the plane on the third/final act.

Sinners is not one of those movies, but Black Panther is. I mostly agree with your comment about Jordan Peele too. I think Us is the only movie of his I've watched where I felt that same final act stumble.

Sinners was elite

Right up there weapons as best all around horror for me
