I like the stuff that is closer to the death line mostly. Like Whitechapel, Thy Art is Murder, Born of Osiris, and Acacia Strain. It's not my favorite stuff to listen to but, I do enjoy how heavy it is. Anything that makes me want to put my fist through a wall I appreciate.

I bought a car that has SiriusXM in it. I basically call that genre satellite radio-core at this point because that seems to be all the metal station will play.

Liquid Metal is bad for playing a lot of those, if you don't like it. They do put in some other things, like I hear a good amount of Death Angel, Slayer and their ilk, and I hear Skeletonwitch a little bit on there too. Wow, I'm surprised they are playing Deafheaven actually (love them personally but I know they are controversial around these parts). And yeah, I was exaggerating a bit for sure but that is definitely a big portion of what they play

Ian Christie's show has been pretty great though when I am able to catch it.

My SiriusXM is up this summer, I'm on the fence about re-subbing. I'll probably keep it mainly because I have a shitty commute to work and it lets me listen to metal, electronic stuff, and sports that I can't get on normal radio. That and I cannot stand commercials. Sometimes I willingly pay to avoid them.

If I do the OT, it will be mostly empty, and I will rely on community contributors to write up genre specific pieces.....I don't know enough about various genres to write something for all of them, so best to leave it to folks who think they can (it will likely remain nearly empty).

New thread today....this ship is sinking and I finally got an idea of what to write for an OT that is going to last for years. It dawned on me this morning.....instead of trying to write something about metal and the basics of it which anyone coming to the thread might already know, I'm going to highlight why this is one of the best communities on Gaf.

Because really, it is. We may have our differences of opinions but we do it respectfully for the most part....we have our ear to the ground for new shit all the time, we're going to shows, getting albums and making recommendations. We have folks here that are into all varieties of metal which is proven by our favorite album and band polls. Perhaps most importantly, we have a very low gif per page ratio with a lot of focus on discussion and recommendations. Whether you like metal or not, this is one of the better communities on gaf for music.
