I am picking a female solo pop album tonight I think. Not sure, though. I suck at this now. :(

Colbie Caillat?! But I was hoping to get that in round nine or ten.

But seriously. I love her.

It better not be what I think it is! I was on the fence about drafting it when it could have been mine.

I don't know man, you better beat me at the buzzer if you want it. I am still deciding whether or not I am going to pick my jazz or hip-hop picks anymore at this point.

I am hoping your solo female pick is Madonna but man, I hope it isn't my solo female pick that I have been considering.

They're tough genres to encapsulate in 1 pick. Next time I do this I'll probably do 2 picks for both.

Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes

When I was in 8th grade, I used to sing Blister in the Sun and Add It Up for my class. Another fun factoid, I picked up this album the same time I picked up Son Volt's Trace at a Best Buy and it was the day after Christmas so it was super busy and the guy scanned them so the metal detectors wouldn't go off and gave them to me for free. I don't know why so many people wanted to give me free cds in my lifetime. It is probably because I am awesome.

Hey, wasn't it you that was talking earlier in the thread about getting a free record from a record shop in Wichita? Was it that one in Delano? Because that is seriously the most lame-ass record shop I have ever been to in my life lol. Their vinyl selection was pathetic. The people were nice, though! :D

Haha, no it wasn't the one in Delano but yeah, that place was super lame. I know which place you were talking about. I made them play this Star Wars record played the Moog orchestra one time. God, I can't remember that record store's name. But yeah they sucked. It was at Yesterday Discs. They had two of them. I eventually worked at the one West which wasn't the better of the two to work at. The other one was over in some Pawnee shopping mall, I think. I can't remember the exact location. The one I worked at was by a Braums and a shopping mall that had the lamest comic book store in town. Was it called Mile High? My mind is fuzzy. Wichita is all about lameness. I guess I will be back there this summer though.

i know what you guys mean about the jazz and hiphop picks. It's nice to work in the picks, but I don't know how competitive they will be when the tournament starts. I've been picking a good mix of my favorites and crowd pleasers.

Feh. After listening to 5 and 6 on my list back-to-back today, it kind of messes with your head a bit. :D

That, and the weed.

Who knows, maybe their new album next month will finally top De-Loused. :p

Tell me what you guys think of doing this too. Like each round of the tournament, you get to pick another album to be added to your team if your team is going to play. I was also thinking about making it so each person lines up their draft in an order to play so instead of ranking the albums, it would be ballot something like this

Team A's 1st Round vs. Team B's 1st Round, winner is:
Team A's 2nd Round vs. Team B's 2nd Round, winner is:

and then you count the points from there and you get a win if you get more points than the other person. You can also tie too with this system. What do you guys think of this?

Confession: Frances might have been a dark horse late-round pick for me if I hadn't picked De-Loused.

I'm really not a fan of TMV but De-Loused has some nice points. Otherwise, I brew hatorade for the band.

TMV is my 2nd or 3rd favorite band so it would feel odd if I don't pick one of their albums. Worrying about what GAF will vote for is affecting my list too much, I think.

So a team would be two people with 20 albums combined + 1 more album?

I like the idea of a point system with each album able to receive a possible 1-10 points, 10 albums will equal 100pts.

I honestly can't stand TMV. I just wish AtDi didn't split. RoC was so good.

I kinda like Sparta's Wiretap Scars, though.

I like them both but you should give Porcelain a shot. I think it is an underappreciated Sparta record.

You are drafting your own team but you will go against others like that but every round of the tournament, you would add one to your line-up. If you go on, then the next round you participate, you will get to pick another album.

With the point system I was thinking that basically you can pretty much know how everyone stands on the album and trying to have people go through and vote on an album for each person's pick would be a long task while just picking the better of the two might be faster. I don't know but I should figure out how to do this in the next couple of days.

You can't worry about what everyone else will pick.

I found this out early on by not picking Dark Side of the Moon in the first round. Even though it is probably one of my favorite albums, I didn't think it would last past the first round or it might seem too mainstream for Indie-GAF, which seems to have gotten their claws firmly sunk in the thread. End result: DSOTM isn't picked until round 3 and I miss what is arguably the biggest album to be on a list.

If you didn't worry about it, De-Loused would have been on your list earlier and happiness would've been had for all.

I never really bothered with Sparta. After being initially extremely excited about the prospect of TWO post-ATDI bands, their first EP and shitty live show (I saw them on that tour they did with Thursday) killed any interest I had in them. TMV stopped doing anything after a while for me, too, but I still check out their new records (and Omar's) just for the hell of it.

Well technically 2 albums have sold more than Dark Side of the Moon, Back in Black by not that much and Michael Jackson's Thriller by 54 million copies.

I never got around to the third Sparta record mostly because at that point, I sort of out grew them and even listening to At the Drive records stopped exciting me. I got pretty burnt out on post-hardcore around 2003 or so.

Mars Volta I just passively listen to. If they come up on Pandora, I would listen but I haven't sat down and listened through their records since Francis the Mute.

My picks thus far are basically my favorite albums that I'm pretty sure will net some votes as well. I think with 4 left I'm just going into fanboy mode.

I'd argue that DSOTM has been more influential than those albums.

But that is why I said arguably.
