The Nintendo Connection ...

Hollywood

Banned
Anyone realize how many connection Nintendo has had through the years, and a deal here or there and the world would be completely different?

- Nintendo agreement with Atari to release the NES in the United States, and Atari gets most revenue, etc.

Atari reneges on deal, resulting in Nintendo releasing the NES in the US. Rest is history.

- Nintendo and Sony agree to release CD add-on for the SNES.

Nintendo backs out, signs deal with Phillips which then releases crappy versions of Nintendo's prized franchises. Sony goes on to make the Playstation, taking over the world.

- Nintendo and Square close relations, making games only for Nintendo through NES and SNES period; practically a second party even creating Super Mario RPG. FFVII was in development for the Ultra 64.

Nintendo decides to stick with cartridges, Square sticks with Sony providing them with some of the top selling games in history.

- Nintendo has a 'dream team' of several developers, including DMA Design; who create Body Harvest for N64.

Most of these developers leave or disband, DMA Design goes on to create Grand Theft Auto III - and then changing names creates Vice City and San Andreas ... the top selling games in modern history.

Other possibilities?

- Nintendo and Rare, Rare creates several top selling hits including Goldeneye on of the best selling games ever.

Nintendo sells Rare away to Microsoft, who goes on to create a sequel to Perfect Dark scheduled as the top launch title for XBox 360

- Nintendo and Slicon Knights, SK creates Eternal Darkness, one of the few mature exclusive games for Nintendo.

Relations sour, SK has a game scheduled for next gen console, most likely not Nintendo, to be published by Sega.

All you need to do to kill a thread..... have me post in it.

Yeesh, happens a lot. Don't know why.

Sorry.

While Apple may not be designing the Revolution, Johnny has been heavily hinting, practically flat out saying, that the Revolution will look like an Apple product. Weather this means Apple helped them design it, or if Nintendo is just using Apple's design as their inspiration, the final design is supposed to be ultra sexy ala the Mac Mini.

That can only be good in my book :D

Good thing for Link. We almost derailed another one. :lol

What was the deal with that donkey kong story again? Nintendo got sued by Universal for something. I'm not sure if that had something to do with deals though.

They thought Donkey Kong was a rip off of King Kong, which they owned the rights to. It was a property fight. I don't know the end result, but I assume it was settled/Nintendo one becasue Donkey Kong isnt called Furry Monkey Balls or anything different now.

Good, I'm glad other people posted and I didn't kill the thread :)

Anyway, yea I was kidding about the Apple design thing... or am I?!

Universal sued because DK was a ripoff of King Kong, yes. But Nintendo shot them down when they showed a prior suit that had Universal (successfully) proving King Kong was in the public domain.

That reminded me, anyone ever see that job posting they had for hiring for
Nintendo Gateway?

I think it was for an airline or airline service.

Nintendo proved that King Kong was public domain. In fact, universal itself had established King Kong as public domain in a court case just a few years earlier. :lol

No love for DMA's GTA games prior to GTA3? There wouldn't be a GTA3 if not for those. :-(

Haha, Universal sure blew that case.

does anybody know the reason why DMA or R* dislike nintendo?

I'm not sure you could really say they do. But Nintendo have clearly made no efforts to court Take Two on the matter of getting any of their games published for Nintendo systems. Not yet anyway.

PS2 has been their sure thing since GTA3, and Microsoft went out in earnest and pursued the GTA double pack & SA etc.
