The North American PS3 Pre-Order Thread

DrEvil

Well, my goal with this thread is to update the main post as often as possible with as many places that you can get pre-orders for the PS3.

The push has already started up here in Canada, but I will be updating for all of North America, separated by Country, and then by chain.

So, without further adieu:

Canada

EB Games:

GameCrazy:

Target:
First come first served on launch (no pre-orders)

So yeah, if anyone has any updated information, I will edit it into this post, as well as what STATE and possibly STORE NUMBER it is that is currently offering preorders, or if it's a national rollout.

I know some GameStops around here (WA) were taking a call list, and promising to call those people as soon as a reserve SKU became active, basically creating a reserve for a reserve, and guaranteeing these GameStops are sold out of reserves the very day they start accepting them. Bleh.

Gamestop seems to vary store to store, and must not have a firm policy.

The EB I work at, and the others in the region are basically saying that there won't be a sku until a price and date is announced, but tehy said that about the 360 and we ended up starting pre-orders right after e3.

I'll update their listing as 'possible call lists'

Gamestop's full of shit. Getting your name on "the list" is no guarantee.

I'm gonna order online again. I got it on the day it launched with the games I wanted. The bundle was pricey, but it was worth it.

Agreed. I even asked my local Gamestop and EB Games employees when they'll be taking preorders and they said right after E3.
"educated" guess. Nobody knows right now when pre-orders will start in EB/Gamestop

My local EB manager accepted my pre-order last month. No SKU but he reserved some game and will transfer it over when it pops up.

Yea, but despite all the forum guessing would you bet against the "educated guess" of right after E3? I would say the track record speaks for itself.

yeah I would say it's a good guess, but look at it this way. The day after the 360 MTV thing, we started taking orders, and look what happened there. So I think EBStop is keeping that in mind this time around.

Is that against EB policy? We used to do this all the time for system preorders at Gamestop.
yeah false pre-sells are grounds for termination ( it inflates numbers and then they send you product that you really didn't need and other stores get stiffed)

That's pretty impressive considering in May 2005 there's no way they could know how big their first shipment for the system will be.

It was a publicity stunt so the PR folks could send out a release.

This is a great thread. I'm certainly going to be pre-ordering my PS3 very soon. I was so lucky go get in on the last official day of 360 launch day pre-orders at my local Gamestop. I refuse to ever be left out in the dark for a system launch, EVER! :lol

*my wife cries*

Pre-orders eh? By the time it gets here (Aus) it should be in good supply, but I said that about the X360 too :lol (not that I know if preorders for that are sold out or not)

A very early indication of interest/demand perhaps (didn't want to post a new thread in case it was old, but if it's new, someone else can feel free..):
47% had heard of the Phantom? WTF bizarro. And how has ~60% heard of the GB'E'? I guess so many hearing about PS3+X360+PSP is easy to understand, but the others?

I'm gonna pre-order mine at gamestop because it's the closest store to my house.

I just hope they don't screw me over, like they did to the people that pre-ordered 360's.

I guess in the "GBE"'s case, probably a lot of respondants may have said they heard of it simply because they had heard of Game Boy..ditto I'd say some of the others were responding affirmatively regarding "Playstation" or "Xbox" even if they hadn't specifically heard of PS3 or Xbox 360 before.

As for Phantom..

No PS3 preorders at my TRU. :(

But, they had a good number of 360's in stock. Probably a good 20 premium systems and maybe 10 core systems. Seems like Microsoft may be catching up. Which really makes you imagine how this holiday could turn out.

PS3's fetching $1000+ on ebay or get a $399 (maybe $349?? or less) Xbox 360 which is plentiful? So those scalpers out there could actually have an effect on consumer opinion / reaction, just like this past holiday season, only there was no alternative to the 360 from a next-gen perspective, but all 3 systems will be out this season.

When the Xbox & GCN launched last time around (2001), they were regularly sold out, but you could pretty easily find them if you looked at a few stores, plus they actually made close to enough to meet demand. The PS3 might not have that luxury

That is an interesting point. With all three systems out this holiday people looking to scalp the ps3 or even the Revolution (not saying this will happen.. but who knows) might end up driving more sales to Microsoft.

Honestly I expect Sony to run short on supply, and I do expect prices upwards of $1,000 on ebay for a ps3.. and I do expect that some people will pay it.. but it is interesting to think how many consumers will look at the 360 or Rev as the next best choice, especially compared to a $1,000 ps3.

(I think some of this will depend on whether or not any blu-ray titles are actually available at the time of launch and how many people have 1080p capable televisions and are itching for HD content.. I think these people will bite it and grab a ps3, even if it means going the ebay route.)

I think its a safe bet Blu-Ray movies will be out by the time PS3 launches. And I'll be watching them on my 720p TV just fine thanks. ;)
