The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Well I had the normal version preordered and I ordered the CE edition off of Gamestop.com

I don't know what that will do when I go to pickup the game tomorrow night since it will show that I preordered the game twice, but I want the CE edition.

Last night I preordered Guitar Hero and was able to upgrade to the guitar bundle without any problem. Hopefully they have extras for Fallout 3 like they did for GH.

I guess I'm happy that I'm going to get the CE version now, but as a result I have to wait until Friday to get it =(

I don't know if anyone remembers, but Gamestop/EBgames was advertising a pre-order bonus which was a Fallout 3 poster and a soundtrack printed on a "vinyl cd".

However, they removed that a couple weeks ago, so I'm guessing they are going to try to bail out on that promise and now no one will be getting it.

I was really looking forward to those extras. :-\

They probably removed it because they ran out of supply so new orders wouldn't expect it. They'll honor the deal if pre-ordered while the offer still showed.

Made a thread about it actually!

Looks like PC is pretty much needed to turn this game from great to amazing. That's fine, by the time the mod community gets through with it, the PC version will be down in price. :)

I just want to play the game now. Optimized from the start. I rushed into Modlivion PC 2 years ago, and I ran into all sorts of issues adding mods midplay, although after tweaking it ran awesome on my PC. Turning down grass was a key move.

But a fully modded Oblivion that runs decent is leagues ahead of the 360/PS3 versions. I can only imagine what the modders will do to this beast one Bestheda lets us do our thing. :D

Provided they actually release an SDK at some point, or else it will be limited to things like scripting and texture upgrades.

Yeah I got this badboy too! No poster though.

Yeah, it's kind of weird actually. EBs across Canada only got the soundtrack, while Wal-Marts got the poster and no soundtrack. But pre-order bonuses up north here have always been ass-backwards which is why I stopped giving a shit about them a long time ago. :lol

I can't get over everyone jumping over themselves in regards to mod support. Why not play the game as the developer intended first. You know, you just might like it.

Goes without saying, but the texture upgrades were key in Oblivion. The "soup" like look of the distant terrain looked like crap with the compressed textures.

But yeah. Straight up, the game needs dynamic lighting. Bestheda usually gives the community a chance, hopefully it's just delayed.

Or mabye they're embarassed by how much better Modblivion was, and don't want modders to show them up again :lol

I'm sure the SDK will be out, AFTER they try to peddle their first power armor DLC.

To all those who own the game (and Fable II) already: Are there any glaring reasons that would cause you to suggest buying Fable II instead of Fallout 3? Seeing as I can only get one of these amazing games, I'd like to be sure that if I do buy Fallout 3 on Tuesday, I won't be feeling like "damn I should've bought Fable instead, this framerate sucks or this game is short or *insert problem here*"

thanks.

thanks.

The live streams showed that the framerate is good.

I usually just preorder at EB with a small deposit to get my bonus then buy it at the first place to break the street date :p. I use the credit at EB later.

Most of the mods I applied first were graphic ones. The others I added late in the game, mostly minor things but they actually made sense and worked.

well going by morrowinds and to a much greater example oblivions past track record........no, I wont.

Pre mods oblivion = crap, post mods oblivion = decent, morrowind was just butt ass ugly (even for its time, good god @ their faces :lol ), thankfully the nerdcore made it pretty.

To be honest, ill most likely tolerate pre mods fallout 3, just because it has fallout in the title.

I've rented Fable 2 at launch and I'm still playing it. I can probably beat the main quest tonight (4 or so hours), and I've logged in about 14 hours total. Co-op is bit limited, loading times are long, graphics aren't that great...

Game is good, but personally, I'm not a huge fable fan and this one is pretty similar to the first. Go with the franchise you like more. If you liked Fable, Fable 2 is a good bet. I'm guessing FO3 will be closer to Oblivion, which I'm a bigger fan of.

As long as it isn't another Halo costume.

The mod that was most essential on the PC was the BTMod, the one that fixed the inventory icons to not be gigantic and stupid on high resolution monitors. It was clearly designed for console, because the gigantic icons were ridiculous on PC, and you could only see like 5 items at a time, even at 1920x1200 resolution.

There were also a few that removed or tweaked the level scaling, making exploration in the game 100x more rewarding. No more bandits with daedric armor, etc. It was very cool to go around the world and actually see (and fight) a variety of enemies.

Very true, the GUI was terrible on the vanilla version. Why bother with it?

There were a bunch too, each one changed the game completely. I played my first character without and overhaul, but my second time was much more dynamic. Like a proper WRPG. Level scaling is annoying.

But these mods aren't going to be there day 1. Even if the mod suite ships with the game it is going to take time for people to create these things. Are you just not going to play the game at all until mods come out? Surely not, or you wouldn't even know what needs "fixing".

I'm not even buying the PC version until the mods are established. But believe me when I say that there are mods that are needed, mostly graphic related, and there's ones that you add depending on personal taste.

This time I'm actually going in with the retail 360 build to start. The mod community for Oblivion moved extremely quickly...

where is the family? my map keeps glitching and telling me its at the metro station yet I've searched the hell out of that place. I'm at some hideout now and can't find them there either.

Judging from what I've seen of the interface, it looks better for PC than Oblivion's did, so I'll probably play it without mods, and go back with mods if I have time in the future.

I did that part last night. They are in that station, you've probably taken a wrong turn. IIRC you need to take a ladder down and go through a service tunnel.

I don't understand why someone would refuse to play a game as it creator intended. Fair enough if you play it and find aspects you don't like, but to say that mods are NEEDED before you've even touched the game is absolutely ludicrous.

ah thanks, you've given me a reason to go back there without going insane lol

I had the chance to get this on Friday, but the store is pretty far and I already have LBP, Fable II, and Farcry 2 to keep me busy until the official release date. Other than that, god, I can't wait to play this, I loved Oblivion so this being just like it is fucking great.

Are health items relatively inexpensive or found everywhere?
They are pretty cheap but you'll find yourself running low on stimpacks pretty frequently early on in the game. To the extent where you'll pick up every piece of meat off every enemy just so you regain some HP when you run out of them.

Since I've been basically asleep at the wheel during all the hype for Fallout 3, I'd just like to know how good my chances are of scoring a CE version of the game this week. Is it one of those things that you absolutely had to pre-order, or will it be one of those things that will be available at pretty much every retail outlet?

I know you can still pre-order the CE, but find it widely available on release day? Doubt it. It's a hefty CE with plenty of goodies.

Thanks a lot for the heads up. Looks like I'm heading to Best Buy tomorrow afternoon to see if I still can.

Can we expect any reviews tonight/today?

I hope so, this is the first time I would be looking at reviews for my game purchase since I am on a tight budget and not too sure if I will enjoy this, but in the other hand, I am craving for an RPG, the setting looks amazing and I need something than can last me a while than the typical 12-15 hour game.

I guess I waited too long to get the PC survival edition, it seems sold out along with the PS3 and Xbox versions. Damn it, I did not want to go to Ebay. I have to have that Pip-Boy 3000 clock.

I got the PS3 CE yesterday. I am 6 hours into the game. I spent most of my time doing side quests and I am having a lot of fun. Base on movies of the 360 version, I cant really tell if there is any noticeable differences. I have explore 1/4 of the world map and several dungeons and I haven't experienced any frame rate problem. I wasn't a fan of Oblivion but I like this game so much more. I am quite addicted to it already.

What a load of ass. I just found out that the Australian version gets an arbitrary delay until the 31st.

Not that I have time to play it anyway. :\

Like a moron I didn't pre-order early so I'm stuck getting the standard edition tomorrow night. :p Oh well, at least I get to play. I can't wait!

I was reading the manual and all skills connect to a specific s.p.e.c.i.a.l trait except luck.

Is the only way to get more luck through the perks?

Any impressions from someone who didn't like Oblivion?
The consensus seems to be that if you didn't like Oblivion then you won't like Fallout 3. Both share the same flaws (apart from level-scaling).

What? Every impression (including mine) reads "I didn't really like Oblivion but I like this much more". What impressions are you reading?

Not exactly. I didn't really like Oblivion, but am loving what I've played of Fallout 3 so far.

So there is exclusive DLC for 360/PC versions only, right? Now, say I download the DLC on the 360, would I have to rebuy that content on the PC, or does Games for Windows Live cover both?

I ask because my PC can't handle the game, and I can't afford to upgrade right now, so I'm going with the 360 version for the time being.
