I just spent like 4-5 hours getting my internet back up...yayyyyy...I hope I get a mythic code in the weekend update.

Ya, that may be....Although I am still confused (as they've joked on the podcast) as to how Bungie of all people has trouble hosting their podcast. lol

Anyway, hopefully render to video comes soon, looking forward to that!

Word is that the save film rendering goodness will be entering into a smallish beta very soon and slowly grow outward from there. Yes, in retrospect it was probably announced a bit prematurely.

The delays aren't related to podcast hosting woes. There are existing options but they come with stipulations and conditions that are less than desirable to some of us.

(If anyone knows anyone who has loads of bandwidth and wants to host an oversized mp3 file once or twice a month for Recon and some promotion, do tell).

You have to copy/paste each section and switch between tabs, though. I imagine a USB keyboard on the console is quicker.

In Internet Explorer, the code will paste all the way in instead of you having to do it in sections.

what is the actual reasoning behind br spread

Bruce Cohn, founder and proprietor of B.R. Cohn Winery, has embraced a lifelong passion for Northern California’s wine country and its bounty. An equally strong passion for music led to a parallel career in the music industry as the manager for one of rock ‘n’ roll’s perennially favorite American bands, The Doobie Brothers. His down-to-earth attitude, focus and dedication have made both careers flourishing successes to this day.

New map!

Phaeton (link to file share) Slot 4

I decided after finishing the previous map that I wanted to do something a little smaller scale, and use the tubes to do something neat.

So basically, this map is a skewed figure eight, with one level up above, crossing over the other. Here's an overview shot, but its a little hard to tell where things are.

68547119-Full.jpg

So the top is easily accessible through a few different ways. There are tubes that slope up into the ends of the "flower" structure up top, as well as ramps that lead up there on opposite sides. There is a bridge structure down below that houses the rockets, and there is a sniper that spawns on the edges of the platforms (near the end of the ramps).

68546903-Full.jpg

Over the tunnels that lead to the area seen above are a couple of windows, so the team above can slow the enemy team down just a little bit.

68547012-Full.jpg

The bases themselves are just simple rooms, not terribly unlike the base rooms on Foundation in Halo 2, but with a little bit more elevation differences to spice it up and hopefully protect spawners from grenade spam.

68546953-Full.jpg

Its a little bit bigger than these pictures look, it is just a little difficult to get a screenshot that shows too much since so much of the map is enclosed. I've got it set up for all the major team gametypes, and I think it will play well with anywhere from 4 to 12 players.

Lessons learned: Tubes do not like to play nice with each other in terms of fitting together, if you use the default objects be prepared to have them disappear on you and not return, and indoor maps are really hard.

Again, my gamertag is Havok CXVII, feel free to send friend requests and whatnot. I'd also love to get some feedback.

Urk loudcapped me in this weeks update:

Halo Wars LCE

Emphasis on the Limited Collector's Edition.

Some in our forums are crying foul. They feel that they were misled. Rushing to their local retailer on Halo Wars launch day, they scooped up a standard edition copy and expected to find the Mythic Map Pack stuffed inside like a secret decoder ring in at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box.

Candy-coated popcorn and peanuts aside, we made it our business on more than one occasion to get the word out about the Limited Collector's Edition and the Mythic Map Pack for months on end. If you happened to miss our information dumps, Microsoft's press releases, and decided to forgo asking the retailer themselves about the details of your purchase, don't come crying to us.

We came correct in full effect all the way back in November and continued hammering the LCE message home in just about every update this year. If you missed it, it's all on you.

Well, at least you guys are listening :lol

Havok, that looks like a sweet ass map. Is it for a specific gametype?
Thanks, I have it set up so it can be used for flag, bomb, territories, king of the hill, and slayer. I think that flag and bomb games would be pretty interesting on them but then again, I haven't played any actual games on it.

Bungie must have figured it would work better with a less accurate spread, I guess.

I don't particularly buy the reasoning behind some people's arguments that unpredictability is a detriment to skilled play, mainly because they typically highlight one skillset (aiming) and ignore all the rest. Along with aiming (and situational awareness etc), truly skilled players should be the ones that can adapt when the chips are down, not the ones who can only jerk the fastest and get the first headshot in a fight.

I some "palooka" runs over somebody with a warthog, a skilled player should realize that the player who killed them made all the right decisions:

- Escalation (Why bring a BR to a BR fight when you have a flying wall of steel?)
- Good situational awareness (they saw an opportunity and leveraged it, while you saw an opportunity to escape or redirect their attack and failed to leverage it)
- Good target prioritizing (Most of the targets probably have grenades and somebody might have a heavy weapon, so whoever gets a splatter within that narrow window has earned it)

Captain Blood said:
I don't know dude to me it doesn't seem like the Warthog has a lot of room to maneuver around sandbox so it would be difficult for it to dominate without getting stuck. Also as long as you don't have someone on your team that immediately goes to the missile pod and blindly fire them in the air, you should pretty much always have that to fall back on if the hog is giving you a lot of trouble.

I've had a team come back from being down 10 kills or so to bring it back - we were spawn-trapped (don't think it was intentional) till their Hog either got stuck in the back and got Brute-shotted to death or grenaded, I didn't get to see it go down as I took cover in the back of our base trying to warn the other teammates to do the same till a power weapon or bubble shield spawned...

And the match where it worked on our side, we rounded the perimeter of the map, crossing through the middle, making figure 8's through the map till we got taken out by a rocket - but we had a good spree going while it lasted...

So I guess it can dominate, but can be put to an end in fair amount of ways too, so the Hog's not really overpowered nor is it a problem on the map, which is balanced well...

I should remember that nobody at Bungie knows how to play Halo whenever I try to understand what they do.

Meh. If I wanted to play a game where twitch skill was prized above all, I'd play Counterstrike.

Well I have resigned myself to waiting for the marketplace launch of the mythic maps. I didn't win any of the various contests, and I don't have an MLG trigger finger to F5 the bungie site and hope an update has a code in it :lol

I do hope a bunch of sandbox variants are suitable for doubles, I think the playlist needs a serious boost of map variety, and I play it a lot. (I also think some of the objective variants are poor in doubles, and the ones that work are infrequent, but that has nothing to do with map variety).

Are any of the mythic maps suitable for doubles? I am interested in your opinions.

All your guy's variants look fun, and I am especially looking forward to bumper hogs :lol

Oh I agree any BR "spread" is almost always negated by poor human aim it's just one of those design elements that seems pointless. It's like how parties can be split in social. Just confusing.

Take Tylenol for any headaches.

Anyone got any idea's who/where might have a Halo Wars LE still left? My roommate is going absolutely nuts waiting on the new maps and he's hours away from spending $50 on Ebay just for the code. At least if he get's the LE he can sell the game.

Yo tell him to BUY the Halo Wars LE from buy.com for 67 I believe after tax. He can use the code then sell Halo Wars for ~$45-50 on eBay. For a total of 17 dollars for the maps.

Hmm that's an awesome deal. Sadly, he is so impatient he doesn't wanna wait til Tuesday to get it, it wants to play it tonight or tomorrow. He's hyped for it obviously.

id like to believe that there are other ways to bring more depth into the game than making aiming more random.

(i dont care about the br spread, im over it, and so are most mlg players who don't suck)

What if my headache is thiiiiiiiiiiiiis big?

Amazon still has Halo Wars LCE in-stock last I looked, but if he wants it locally he's probably out of luck aside from maybe Best Buy? Gamestop doesn't even have it listed on their site anymore new or used, so I can't even see if local stores have it.

He gave it a shot, called all around town. Not too surprising results.

Wait Microsoft refuses to let you buy the maps six months ago when they were finished, then refuses to sell them to you except in the HW:LE pack, then doesn't print enough copies so that people who want to shell out the 80 bucks still can't buy them?

Well, it is Microsoft.

Two questions:

1) Can the skulls on the Mythic maps be found by flying around in a saved film? My daughter wants to hunt for them that way, but I'm not sure if we can see them.

2) So, I'm forging a new map on Sandbox, this time trying to merge objects for the first time. I've done the first three, and when I try to do the next, something strange is happening. I'll set the object to not appear at the start of the round, and then reset the round. And when the next one starts, the object is there physically. But it's turned off-color, I can't select it to check attributes, move etc. It's there physically but not in a way I can interact with, rather than appearing 30 seconds into the round. This is happening for all objects now. Is this a known issue, something that happens after three things are merged? Not sure what to do.

It just makes people less reliant on the good 'ol "perfect string of headshots". Having one go-to strategy all the time when you're carrying a BR isn't what I'd call depth.

Yes, but you can't "get" them for achievements.

The thing I dislike is the leading of shots. For example the AR doesn't ever need to be lead yet the BR does. Do BR bullets travel slower? The weapons need to be consistent. I understand the weapons that you can SEE the bullets travel like spiker, needler, rockets. Carbine doesn't need to be lead to my knowledge. So what gives?

I also dislike the fact that there's no distance measurement to when and how much to lead, and not only that its unquantifiable but it changes depending on the amount of latency which you also can not see. (WoW allows you to see the latency # why can't Halo 3?). This leads not to a "oh hes that far I have to do this to hit him" but to a "oh my shots aren't hitting fuck this spread"

What I'm saying is I would gladly welcome the depth if it made ANY sense. It was very badly implemented into the game to bring a level of realism that frankly doesn't need to be there (considering its a sci-fi futuristic VIDEO GAME). Sadly H3 is the best out there so I'll continue to get on and yell at the BR spread while semi-pwning. :D

That's okay, we just want to find them that way. I'm assuming Sandtrap's is way out beyond the barrier, so we can fly around in camera mode, find it, then go into Forge and get to it that way. Thanks.

1. i think so

2. the objects you are merging when you get the weirdness are the objects that are on the original sandbox (the ones voc so nicely clumped together on his prep maps). for so reason these blocks are glitched. i find that putting them on a 60 sec respawn helps because they usually will disappear in about 30 secs giving you time to do whatever merge you want to do.

That's cheating. You have to build really long tunnels to protect you from the laser in order to find them. :D

so make the other strategies more reliable instead of making one less so, and watering down the game

You don't have to lead the AR because it is useless at the range that leading is necessary (and yes you can lead AR fire, its not a hit-scan weapon). You don't really have to lead the BR at AR range, as long as your foe isn't evading. I think of it like wind in affecting your golf swing, you know its there, you know you need to adjust, and the better you are the better you will be able to adjust n the fly, but you will never control the wind, and a little luck is always going to be a factor.

Frankly if it did not spread, and had instant bullet velocity, it would have to be a weaker weapon.

Good points on the lead and latency. I guess all my musings are relegated to "on paper" currently :lol

Make sure it's a saved film of a Forge session. I don't think they show up in any other mode.
