As firm prepares record-breaking £4m marketing spend for Halo 3
Microsoft is celebrating a gigantic spike in Xbox 360 sales as it prepares to splash out a whopping £4 million on marketing for the release of Halo 3.
According to ChartTrack data, the platform holder enjoyed a 260 per cent rise in sales of its next-gen format two weeks ago (week 34), after introducing the Elite model to the market and dropping the price of its Core and Premium consoles.
Perhaps even more impressively, sales only dipped 20 per cent the following week (week 35) leaving up-to-date calendar year sales 4.9 per cent higher than they were in 2006.
And now the firm is set to splash the cash on phase two of its pre-Christmas 360 sales push with the release of system seller Halo 3 which it is backing with what it calls the biggest entertainment launch of all time.
Weve seen what the previous two iterations of Halo did for console sales, so were anticipating an incredible amount of demand come the launch of Halo 3, said Microsofts head of gaming and entertainment Stephen McGill.
The day one revenue of Halo 2 was the biggest number for the launch of any entertainment property. That has since been surpassed by Spider-Man 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean 3. But were confident Halo 3 will take back this accolade.
Its only when you start comparing figures to the launch of huge films that it really hits home this really will be the biggest entertainment launch of all time.

Amateur film editors can record the camera angles, slow mo, and other effects to any clip they cut. Though you can only set a start and end point, you can still create your own visual flow for a scene and then upload it on Xbox Live for others to enjoy. Those who download the clip can choose to watch your take or grab hold of the camera and manipulate it as they please.
You can save a film with the cameras you want but the people who downloads it can detach the camera whenever they want.zam said:One thing I've been wondering for some time, and I haven't seen any real clarification on the matter.
Regarding the saved films, I know you can view from any angle, but how will the uploaded version be like? Will the other people who download it and watch it be able to look from any angle you want? Is there any kind of way to save the film from certain angles so that anyone wathing the film will only be able to look from that angle?
For example, I fix my saved film so that I shoot a rocket from first person, move out to third person, the camera follows the rocket, quick shot to the enemy seeing the rocket coming, then from third person as the rocket hits him square in the face. Whenever somebody watches the film they will see those exact angles?
Also, I know that you can't edit several films together, but you can you edit down a saved film so that it only shows a short clip, and not the whole game?
So they can watch it from the angles you want, but if they want they can watch from whichever angle they want? Ok, that makes pretty good sensethe_master said:You can save a film with the cameras you want but the people who downloads it can detach the camera whenever they want.
EDIT: Man, I fail answering.

urk said:Right, you can "package" the video how you choose before making it available, editing it with your own creative styling, but the viewer can decide to watch it from another angle or point of view if he or she chooses.

Someone just snuck me the official press release for Madame Tussauds' Master Chief unveiling. Actually the press release doesn't mention the big MC, just that it will be the first video game character to be immortalized in the 250-year-old attraction and that guests will include representatives from Xbox 360. It helps that GameTag Radio was tipped off with a picture of the Master Chief in production earlier this week.
The press release goes on to say that the media and guests will have a chance to see the 7-foot-2 figure up close and have their photo taken with him. There will be some unnamed celebrity guest on hand too. I'll look into getting pictures from the Saturday event, and maybe even an interview, once it happens.

I enjoy watching these montages because they feature a level of skill I will never attain, but at the same time it frustrates me because it's so obvious how much a good connection helps you with things like snipe/sticky detection, which is often so loose in this video that I just can't reconcile it with my experience of Halo 2 outside of LAN play (I'm in Europe, with an approx. 3mbit line, never playing host because the game always privileges American connections). This one has better music choices than 90% of other montages, however.urk said:Kids Say The Darndest Things
Stoled from Halo3Forums. If you're bored and want to give the old way of watching vids from Halo 2 a good send off, this should do the trick. It's pretty typical stuff until the two minute mark and then it had me laughing pretty good. The "rape" montage is especially funny is a sad sort of way.
Will it be possible to splice together clips from multiple parts of a single film in one package (ie, 15 seconds from this angle, then skip a bit as nothing's happening, 30 seconds first-person action, skip more boring stuff, etc etc), or is a bit beyond the capabilities of the editor?Stinkles said:Only the host controls "time" FFWD, back, pause etc. But other cameras can go where they like.
You are correct, sir. One player was using that new helmet and the other was using the ODST helmet. I verified it with image comparisons that some saw in an older thread. Apparently, these guys did not see that post. Ghaleon saw it so if he would pop in here and confirm then that would be great. I'm gonna try to dig up the images again.electricpirate said:Wasn't one of the players in the Omegathon wearing the controversial helmet?
