it's true larry brown has done this before, but lets not forget that series. the sixers were literally 2 plays away from being up 3-1 in that series (brian shaw hits a 3 in game 2 late, horrys heroics in philly in game 4 i think).

so, it's not as if the sixers won game 1 and were blown off the court the rest of the series.

Exactly. Even Brown said people forget those next 4 games were really close.

And this is a completely different team, a team not being carried by a 5'11 shooting guard.

<George> I LOVE BEING A TURTLE!
Holy shite I just about gave my monitor a Coke spray!

And effzee, I know what you're trying to say, but that 76ers team is not even comparable to this Pistons team. Detroit has a legitimate shot -- I'm not saying they will win, but they have a chance.

Yes, I'm activated! First off DM, never compare that stupid bitch George to a Ninja Turtle. EVER. If you want to live, that is :p

Anyway, GO PISTONS! From the Minny to Motown bandwagon, it's all good as long as the Fakers go down.

That was some serious defense that was displayed last night. Lakers just sat back and allowed the Pistons to control the tempo for the whole 48mins. If they're gonna do that, they might aswell just hand the trophy to D-etroit. What a waste of a dominating performance by the Diesel, Kobe chucking up shots instead of attacking the basket consistently. He doesnt even need to attempt to score just get in the fucking lane and cause some fucking havoc! Dont just play into D-etroit's hands by chucking up shot after shot from the perimiter. Everyone else pretty much didnt show up to play.

PLZ CAN WE KEEP PRETTY RICKY ON THE BENCH! WASTE OF COURT TIME EVERYTIME HE'S ON THE FLOOR! =(

LAKERS IN 6 BISHES!

I was a big Hornets fan back before Shinn yanked them out of Charlotte, and I've embraced the Panthers, but man, I just can't pull for the Bobcats. Those colors and that logo just burn my eyes. It's like a retro-Hardees TBS Little League hunting-vest-orange pile of ugly. Logos and color schemes are silly reasons to like or dislike a team, but when it's this disgusting, I just can't help it.

I know what you mean man, I loved the teal/purple of the Hornets. I was hoping that Charlotte would get to keep the Hornets name and New Orleans would have to think up a new name, but alas, that was not to be. I'm hoping the jerseys are like this:

White - Home
Blue - Road
Orange - Road

That way, (theoretically) we'd only see the ugly orange for a third of the season. I wish the research group didn't think Orange was going to be the hip, fashoinable color of the future, but you gotta live with what you got. I'd rather have the team with ugly colors than no team at all.

edit: BTW, who do you think we're going to use our draft pick on? I think it's a dead heat between Josh Childress and Jameer Nelson, with the slight edge to Childress only because of his size.

id look for the sixers to come out of the east next yr...new coach....rasheed wallace...a good draft....ai healthy.

Bobcats??? Haha, I think they're running out of animals...

I envision the Las Vegas Marmots for 2007!

Yeah...I think Rasheed's staying in Detroit, with Mehmet Okur leaving...

Yeah, I hear ya... hopefully Charlotte will get excited about the NBA again. I'll go to a couple of games, but I'll be wearing a LJ jersey. ;)

I've seen some people giving Charlotte a high schooler in mock drafts, but I'm not buying that. I think that Nelson has the poise and maturity to become a NBA-level PG fairly quickly, and he can be molded into a franchise player if he's given a good supporting cast. There's a big upside if the Bobcats can bring in an experienced PG and move Nelson to SG until he adjusts to the pros and learns to limit turnovers. That is, of course, assuming the Bobcats don't play Clippers-style "no-money-ball" and let Nelson get away after his initial contract is up.

All that said, Childress would also be a great first pick. He'd be a beast if he could just develop a killer instinct. From what I've seen, he's consistent, but he rarely 'turns it up'. If Charlotte was an established team, I'd probably take him over Nelson.

Eww, WTF is this --> :p

Alright man, just because you brought it up, I'm gonna pull my best FMT.

*takes a deep breath*

whew...alright...here goes:

the bobcats are going to come into the league and destory just about every team in their path. it doesn't matter that they'll be a team of old veterans with one rookie, this team will be loaded because everyone will be affected by the charlotte mojo. i predict a 75-7 season, enroute to charlotte's first championship (over the spurs in a sweep). if the bobcats select jameer nelson, he will become our floor general for the next 10 years, directing traffic and the defeat of the opposing team. if we select josh childress, he will become the next kevin garnett, but even better because he has college experience. really, the bobcats can't go wrong either way. strap in tight guys, your gonna be seeing that neon orange a whole lot for the, say, next...decade or so. david stern, fear for your fakers, the bobcats are coming to rip them apart!

*takes a couple of deep breaths*

Phew...

well, how was it? :p

The Pistons won? did I slip into some alternate universe? oh well I'm liking it! take that malone, I don't care if he's from Louisiana, if he retires without a ring I'll be happy.

Looks like Dookie Duhon couldn't handle the Bobcats workout.

The commitment was there in terms of his effort. He didn’t shoot the ball well, but he did what he did at Duke when it was on the line and he had to make the shots, he made those. He worked hard as he went from drill to drill. He kind of tweaked his ankle a little bit on one of those agility drills we had, so that slowed him down. I believe that what you see is what you get with Chris. He’s a competitor, defensively he understands the game and I think there’s a place for a guy like this. I think what he needs to do is to be in a situation where he gets to play a lot of basketball. I think he could probably evolve into a good journeyman basketball player.

Damn, this guy sucked. Definately not wasting our second round pick on this p.o.s. player!

Sorry, Dookies just aren't what we're looking for in Charlotte :p

If Rasheed leaves, it'll be for money. I'm not sure what Philly's cap situation is but I'm assuming they aren't one of the teams with money. Larry Brown or maybe its Big Ben's fro, has reined him in and he fits well with Detroit. I don’t see him leaving.

Thoughts...

- Shaq played great but his 6 turnovers were pretty costly (cos the transition d was so bad that almost every TO turned to points on the other end)
- They might need to reconsider Kobe on Rip for the majority of the game cos even if Kobe slows him down, what good does that do if GP lets Billups explode? And by the 4th, Kobe has no legs and is settling for jumpers. If Rip is gonna go off, let him as long as Kobe is going off on the other end as well.
- Speaking of Kobe, dude needs to quit shooting jumpers and take that shit to the hole. 2 fts for the entire game will not get it done. Not like he can't beat Tay off the dribble and it might get guys open too.
- Maybe play Fish and Rush more since they can at least score while being lit up on the other end.
- GP and Karl need to earn their rings. What a worthless and gutless performance!
- Pistons are friggin deep while LA's bench is giving them nothing.
- Lakers need to try to push the ball down the court, Their set offense looks pretty stagnant.
- Most importantly, LA needs to box the fuck out and put a hand in someone's face. Geez!!

The Pistons WILL NOT win Game 2!!!!

We? What's this "we" shit? I've been pulling for the Hornets since you were in diapers son, and the Bobcats are MY team ;)

Seriously though, should "WE" take the next J.R. Reid?

I don't know who you hope to get in the second round, but we could do a hell of a lot worse than Chris Duhon. 10 year journeyman? Hell, any second round pick from any draft would be lucky to acheive that.

Anyway, I'm in the Jameer Nelson camp, just not at No. 4. If we are gonna take Nelson, we should try and trade down to see what we can get. I'm not a big Childress fan, nor am I a big Luol Deng fan surprisingly. I think Livingston will be a great player, but not for the Bobcats. We're in a strange situation. If Deng isn't gonna fall, and we aren't gonna trade up to get Okafor, then we should trade down (if at all possible) and take Nelson. If that can't happen, take Childress and pray Duhon is there in the second round.

took me long enough to find a friggin' acceptable email, but now IM BACK! My thoughts: Give the ball to Shaq. Too much dribbling from guys like Gump and Fish. Where is the ball movement? Where was the Kobe/Karl pick n roll? Lakers played like complete ass and Pistons still only won by 12. Spurs or Kings (circa 2001) would have beat our asses by 30 playing like that.

Actually, those 1st 2 games where the Lakers played like total shit against the Spurs, they only lost by 10 both games. So, from your reasoning, Pistons are better than the Spurs? Since they lost by 12? Or did they not play as shitty and still lost by 12?

:p

they played WORSE last nite than in games 1 and 2 against San Antonio. ZERO offensive execution. If Shaq wasn't involved, the offense basically amounted to Rush, Fish, or George dribbling around like a moron for 20 seconds, then dumping it off to Karl, who passes up an open jumpshot to dump the ball off to Kobe and they all watch him try and force up a play.

By that same logic, Hamilton had an atrocious offensive game, they gave up a TON of second chance points (or else the game would've been won by 20-- even the commentators said so) which they usually don't do, and they didn't even post up Rasheed Wallace much. And yet they still won by 12. Works both ways. :P

But yeah, obviously LA can (and will) play better tomorrow night. If the Pistons can't withstand LA's initial first-half blast (and it's gonna be a doozy imo) and have either the lead or trail by < 6 at the half, they're in deep trouble.

Alright, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Pistons in 6. They will win Game 2 and lose 3 and 4. But they'll get back to win Game 5 and 6. If it gets to 7, it's Lakers win.

Oh and this thread should be stickied.

hmm, what had a bigger effect on their respective team: Rip having an atrocious game for Detroit, or everyone NOT named Shaquille O'Neal having an atrocious game for LA? Seriously, that was the worst i've seen them play (with the exception of Shaq) all playoffs long by a longshot.

Rip played bad, but his lack of scoring was offset by guys like Ben Wallace and Billups stepping up to take a little of the scoring load on, and others like Lindsey Hunter coming in and hitting some shots. Lakers had nobody offsetting the horrible offense. Honestly, the way they played, i was suprised we ONLY lost by 12.

Pistons didn't have that good of a game either. Rip was a nonfactor, and Rasheed barely played in the 1st half. Not to mention all the missed layups, close shots, and free throws.

You expect lakers to lose 2 home games in a row, then the pistons lose 2 home games in a row?

NOT going to happen.

word. Sheed actually had a pretty good game considering he hasn't been the most consistent guy this playoffs. Would it have been better for Detroit if his 14 points came off 10 shots? 14 points is about what they should expect from the guy barring some kind of offensive explostion.

Haha, don't worry, it's just that UNC bias speaking. You're right, he might just be the only good one left in the second round (I'm just afraid of Duke's track record with NBA prospects :\)

We'll see. Kobe never managed to beat Tayshaun off the dribble in game 1, and he did try a few times. Tay just stayed in front of him. He's tall enough that he can play a step back and still get a hand in his face if he goes up.

What you fail to realize is that will continue throughout the playoffs. That is actually the goal of the Piston's defense. They didn't have bad games by fluke, they had bad games by design.

Lakers once again came out with zero energy and played no defense. They are going to be desperate tonight and will play a good defensive game, but fucking around the way they do can catch up to you if you are not careful and that is what I am afraid of. I still don't think the Pistons can do it 4 times against LA, they really don't have anyone that deserves a double team the entire game. I say aggressively rotate defenders on Rip and Billups and let them get their 30-40 points, then single the rest of the team and D them up. Shaq has shown that Ben and Rasheed can't guard him one on one at all and Shaq doesn't need to step out on Ben so he should be able to play the entire game if Phil would let him. Kobe definitely needs to go inside more often and pick up even more fouls on Detroit's big men. Right now Prince is just giving Kobe the jumper and so far Kobe has not made him pay, but Kobe is too good of a shooter to miss that many open jump shots. One last thing, I swear this Lakers team is giving me heartburn, there is such a thing as too much drama.
