the official MVP/ESPN/ETC Baseball 2k5 THREAD!

I'm in for a league if it isn't too much trouble. I need to be put in the same division as matrix and his shitty disastros too. :P

MVP has leagues?

Oh, you were talking about ESPN. Yeah, I don't think I'll get suckered for a fourth time (NFL, NBA, College hoops) this season.

well before i even get that started i have to see if EA even has a good online system for MVP. last year on PS2 is was a piece of shit unless you were playing someone that was pretty close to you (georgraphy wise).

if they haven't fixed it for XBL then whats the point

Brent Nielsen: PS2, PC, and Xbox Live, with similar feature sets to the fall sports titles that came out. We've had some big breakthroughs this year, and the online game right now is playing about the same as the offline game, and that's our ultimate goal. We don't want those two experiences to be different.

Let's hope BRENT isn't lying..

you might be the only one koney ;)

the only way i would even possibly consider buying espn mlb is if it's definitely $19.99, and even then i'm not sure. i've been burnt not once, not twice, but thrice by bad espn games this year!

I seriously doubt I buy ESPN,I just know it all to well...1st day:"Man this game r0x0rz mah b0x0rz!"...1st day/1 hour later:"MAN WTF IS THIS SHIT?!". :lol

If you didn't whine about every game you play, then you'd be respectable to me. Their opinions are as good as anybody elses. Can't really fault anybody going either way on the football games, both are exploitable with glitches, both needing to play under house rules to make it good. Though I have to admit, baseball freaks do the most bitching out of all of the sports gaming fans. Should be lots of fun. Can't have a glass is half full attitude around here it would seem. Always the immature snarking and bullshit.

Oohh the irony! Ok, who pissed in this ^^^ asshole's cornflakes?

Oh yeah, and Ramirez is a damn good, well respected gamer and poster at this forum for a very long time. I've never seen or even heard of you. Course you can share an opinion, but try not bein such a douche when you do and attack people on your way.

P.S. I love OS. Even though I sometimes disagree.

Seems like none of you even read a word that I said (which was a plea to stop the rampant immaturity). I'm being straight up, not snarky, just tired of the BS. You guys are the reason why a corporation shouldn't listen to their fans at all, especially if they can justify their utter disrespect just because they paid some cash. Your opinion is fact eh? :lol The hell it isn't!

And shpankey, the time for being nice has passed a long time ago. Not when people are arrogantly saying their opinion is fact. How is the discussion going to stay reasonable if everybody is acting like a douche? Don't blame that on me, I didn't start it. The road was already chosen.

Last post I'm making on this until some actual baseball discussion comes up. This could be an opportunity to talk about past games, what needs to be improved, or whatever, until then. Just a thought.

Dude, you came in here and blasted me for stating my opinion (one that is shared by pretty much every sports gamer here),and now you're taking the holier than thou approach, whatever :lol

He's a bigger sega whore than Konex, just dont waste your time Ram.

what the fuck are you talking about?? do you know why visual concepts was outsold 14 to 1 a year ago and had to drop the price of their game to $19.99? because they DIDN'T listen to fans! remember the old saying whenever god closes a door he opens a window? well, with VC it's whenever they fix a leak in the boat, another hole seems to pop up. it makes my head spin to imagine how some of the shit in espn nfl/nba/ncaa made it through "quality testing" (if that's what you want to call it). i understand every game has glitches and problems, but the shit in espn is simply ricockulous.

opinions aren't fact, but the proof is in the pudding my friend. take a look at the gaming-age espn nfl 2k5 league:

http://leagues.espnvideogames.com/t/league.php?l=17532

then take a look at the gaming-age madden 2005 online league:

http://www.easports.com/games/madden2005/onlineplay/leagues/leaguehome.jsp?leagueid=127184

do you notice a difference in the realism of the yardage per game and overall feel of the game? the stats don't lie. VC's games have joke AI, and as far as i'm concerned AI is the most important thing in sports. it's great that their games have 8 gajillion new animations, and that you can have steve-o page you to play a KOOOOOL exhibition game n cribz! but it comes down to gameplay, and THAT is why VC will always lag behind EA in the majority of sports games

:lol

I know that feeling all too well. I get mad at VC's games because they're so close to being great and then along comes the glaring flaws that should never have gotten past QA. I'm hoping against hope that Kush can deliver with baseball, their hockey game is brilliant.

From the ESPN page...

Simeon Rice-33.5 Sacks :lol :lol
Hugh Douglas-29.5 Sacks :lol
Fred Taylor-2315 Rushing Yards

We almost had more than 5 Defensive linemen with 20+ sacks, amazing. lmao

best of all is that not all of cmdr solraks games recorded (hugh douglas) lol...

espn nfl is a complete and total fraud/sham. taken on an arcade level i could possibly see some merit in the game, but there is just enough sim there to turn the game into a frustrating piece of shit

So not buying espn if its $50..screw that.

A few thoughts about the ESPN videos.

-The bat hitting the ball sound is horrible!
-That doesn't look anything like Randy Johnson.
-Did Manny Ramirez go on Slim-Fast?
-Presentation and commentary seem really good.

That can be used as a template to describe almost any ESPN game.

$50? I guess that MLB deal hit them harder then we knew...
I'd guess its more like when you're the only dealer in town you can charge whatever you want, people will still come for their fix.

They might go $20 again this year to try and blow everyone out of the water and develope a fanbase in the last year before the exclusivity kicks in. I think it'd be smart, but we'll have to wait and see.

Disapointing to see that Kush isn't going with a minor league system comprable to what EA had in MVP last year. At least three levels with real games that you can optionally play should be there for us hardcore baseball fans.

:lol Did you read FMT's post? I think it's obvious that they're going with the $20 price. I seriously doubt EB just did that on their own.

I'm buying them all (my favorite sport) but I'm really happy about how ESPN is shaping up. Looks far better than it did. They stole some good features from MVP (analog sliding, fielding, etc.). Base running is fantastic. Full soundtrack for any player :lol Glad to hear it's only twenty bucks.

I think they've also "borrowed" MVP's pitching meter as an optional choice. For 20 bucks I'll likely buy it. The new base running mechanic looks really interesting.

dammit!!! it's official: MLB 2k5 (by take2) will only be $19.99. I say dammit because i am somewhat certain that they will rope me in again. So far VC is 1/3 this year (espn nfl, espn nba, espn ncaa all garbage, espn nhl a good game). hopefully they can get back to .500, but i will honestly be amazed if the game isn't sheer garbage. i don't know who i can trust with reviews or opinions of the game. here are my options:

A) Gaming websites such as operation-sports.com, who i no longer trust because it is pretty clear to me that they bullshit their way through "previews" (what slowdown in ncaa 2005 on xbox!?) and seem to have a hard on for all things VC

B) People here @ GA who jock a game and say how great it is, then when online leagues/tournies come around they are nowhere to be found

C) Possibly people I respect, but everyones opinion I respect has already been burnt by sega and is unlikely to take the plunge until one of us does it first and after a number of weeks says the game is the real deal.

the main draw to MLB 2k5 is online leagues. for some reason i can't resist online leagues... ramirez, dm, bob, matrix, everyone else who is a legit sports gamer, are you guys interested in MLB league possibly??

MVP Baseball is 29.99??? I'm definitely buying MLB and MVP for the Xdude. And MLB 2006 for PS2. It's the one sport you can count on me for league play.

Dude, any sports game cred you had has just been lost. Anyone with an inkling of brain power knows High Heat has never been beaten when it comes to pure gameplay. ESPN last year is the closest to High Heat in its prime. Those EA Trax have melted your mind.

I am a huge high heat fan... but MVP reminded more of high heat than any game so far, overall, with the franchise and all of the options... plus it looked better :D

i was talking about the online crowd who regularly play in the GA madden leagues and the like :D

but you can be in our mvp tournament if you are down for it

HEY! Super Bowl = end of season! Don't give me that Pro Bowl crap. The Pro Bowl is like traveling in the NBA, it's ignored league-wide!

Burnnnn. Well I'll step in and say as a "legit sports gamer" that while leagues are great, if the game is shit, we've just wasted 20 bucks. We'll probably all cave in again, since we're stupid sheep.....so what can I say? I'd say wait for reviews, but you can't trust them! You can't trust anyone!!! This stupid $20 price point is turning us all into suckers.

Exactly, it's really pissing me off that sports games are getting such shitty reviews the last 2-3 years. We play the games for like 1-2 days and find so many flaws while the reviews for the game sound like PR material and never say anything about actually playing the game. From Operationsports.com just completely ignoring the slowdown in NCAA 2005 to Gamespot.com saying ESPN NFL 2K5's AI is just as good as Madden's ("It also seems as though AI blocking has gotten mostly better, and it's also better about picking up outside blitzes").

We sports gamers have no one to trust! We must have a revolution!

Sega isnt getting me this time *I was raped three times in one year and thats too much for one sport fan to take,Id prefer to let my ass heal*...MLB 2006 for ps2 gets my money and MVP 2005 for xbox.

Damn, those MLB 2006 vids are nice. I love the animation and the batter's rituals. A couple of my Xbox-only friends told me they plan to buy a PS2 for this game alone.

I want to give MLB 2K5 a chance, but I'm scurred. The ESPN games are like a pretty girl you meet in a bar, that later turns out to be a total psycho.

There is simply no way in hell I will give Take 2 my money again for a shit product,UNLESS all of you buy it and say the game is the best fucking baseball game EVAR. :lol

I've been playing a ton of ESPN MLB 2K5 and a bit of MVP 2005... right now, I'd have to say that MLB is a cut above MVP right now. Everything from presentation and in-game commentary, to the pitching/batting interface and graphics are top-notch. It feels like a big improvement from last year's game... whereas MVP feels the same, and looks much worse than MLB. Still, I haven't tried any of the franchise stuff in either game so I can't really comment there.
