The Official Resident Evil 4 (biohazard 4/PS2) Thread!

Just got the game and it's a lot of fun, but does anyone else have problems with the kicking. It seems like one out of every 4 times I try to kick someone in the head after shooting them in the face it doesn't come up and I just get attacked. It's very frustrating.

It can be a little finicky sometimes. IIRC, there's different animations that happen after shooting one in the face, and only one allows for you to do a kick. You also have to be pretty much toe to toe with the stunned enemy to get the prompt.

I'm finally getting close to the end of this game.

Currently:

At the part where you first find regerators or whatever they're called. I knew I couldn't kill it without some kinda thermal goggles (after reading the memo) but since I wasn't going ot save I just started shooting at it seeing how much punishment it could take. After blowing off it's legs and arms, I stood over it laughing how helpless it looked..... It fucking fooled my ass "Oh my god there's a quadraplegic gnawing at my jugular"

Heh, I think that happens to just about everybody. The way they sort of lurch-jump around when they're limbless is just disturbing, too.

BTW, it is possible to kill them without the thermal goggles, it just takes a lot of shots.

OH i killed his ass. After that neck biting I pulled out the launcher

I received the HK version of the game today, and the torchlight and guidebook are nice. Not opening the game though.

The torchlight gives a kind of glow similar to RE3.5.

I missed NPD sales for October and was very interested in RE4's PS2 sales. I saw that someone said RE4 sold 65,000 on PS2 in October but can someone show me the full top 50 with sales numbers for each (or top 30 if RE4 is in it).

Thanks

Oh and RE4 is the best game of the year IMO and quite probably the best game of this generation (and I'm not even a RE fan normally). I absolutely loved the GameCube version, never played the PS2 version but Capcom seem to have put a massive amount of effort into it.

Ok, just started playing the game and I somehow discarded my pistol. Then I stupidly played for an hour and found all the cool shit in the barn and farmhouse areas. Am I going to get another pistol somewhere or do I have to restart on my first saved game (sigh) and replay now?

GAAAAAAAAAAAH MY JAPANESE PS2 VERSION HAS YET TO ARRIVE DAMNIT DAMNIT DAMNIT

DAMN SLOW PLAY-ASIA SHIPPING AND YOUR EXCELLENT PRICES COMBINED WITH A $5 COUPON

AAAAAAAAAAAH

Damn, I've played RE4 a million times, why do I care if it takes this long for yet another version? :lol

So the question that is on my mind: GC or PS2 version? I had the GC version when it came out and unfortunately never finished it, ended up selling it for GT4. Please don't ask me why, because I absolutely loved the game. Now I'm faced with the choice of which version to buy: the GC version with the crisp progressive scan visuals or the PS2 with the extra goodies...I'm playing on a 43-inch HDTV with component for both systems, which do I buy??

I just bought the PS2 version yesterday, and I've had the GC version since it came out and I'm running both on an HDTV, I find on the HDTV the PS2 version has better image quality due to not being zoomed in and I'll take that and the better color over the GC's better shaders and geometry.

I'd go with the PS2 version if I had to pick one.

I would rent the PS2 version, play thru the extras and get the GC version imo. But if you find the ps2 version to yer liking you could always buy it after that.

From what I understand:

PS2:
+Best graphics when using a widescreen television
+More content
-Worse graphics when using a standard television
-One very tense area of gameplay
protecting Ashley in the truck in the docking area
is reduced to a cutscene

GCN:
+Best graphics when using a standard television
+Has that cool section of gameplay the PS2 version is missing
-Worse graphics when using a widescreen television
-Less content

The last PS2 con is incorrect. :)

Huh? I remember that CVXfreak was the one who reported it (and from first hand experience, to boot), and he'd seem like the most trustworthy guy on GAF on this issue.

Woah? I didnt know they removed the truck sequence. How comes the reviews never mentioned it...

Edit: NM

I did? I don't think I commented on that part.

EDIT: Cut out the Krauser part, I misunderstood the con.

Which one? All I remember is that you were talking about a part with Ashley in a truck that was gameplay in the GC version, but was a cutscene in the PS2 version. And I believe it was in this thread.... I will start searching.

Forget what I said about Krauser.

I'll search, too, but are you sure you're not confusing that with the fact that the PS2 version has all pre-recorded FMV while all GC scenes are in-game scenes?

I think that part in the PS2 version is different because when you pull the switch and go down the ladder, a cut-scene plays where the truck begins to rise. In the GC one, you had to get on the truck before it went up.

(I think, it's been a month since I played it - waiting for the JPN PS2 version to start playing again)

This might've been what you were talking about, and I took it to mean that the whole sequence was cut-scened.

Haven't found it yet. Keep getting distracted by impressions of the game.

Got my biohazard 4 PS2 in.

Impressions/details/review of RE4 Asian version? Does it have easy/amuteur mode? Added/missing features from other versions? How's the flashlight and book?

RE4 Asian is exactly the same as the US version, right down to the instruction booklet. The flashlight is really neat since it gives a glow sort of similar to the RE3.5 video. Book is simply a Chinese RE4 strategy guide. Nice pictures and such.

I know Bio4 is still censored and has easy/amuteur modes. Ashley's section is the over shoulders camera view.
What gun model did you get? There's Red9, Handgun, Blacktail, and Broken Butterfly.

It has an Easy Mode and it has an Amateur Mode which is even easier than easy mode. Two knife slashes, and they're down!

I got the Magnum gun model. Those things are tiny.

I had to beat him with a knife on Normal, ran out of ammo. its just a matter of running around and dodging for the next 45 minutes or so.

Just like i did the psycho mantis fight without changing controllers.

Oh yeah im real hardcore!
