The Official TEKKEN 5 Thread

Baron Aloha

A Shining Example
The game comes out this Friday (2/25) and there seems to be a lot of interest on the forum and a lot of Tekken 5 related threads so I figured "hey, why not?". We'll see how this goes.

FYI: I just found out that all of the endings in T5 are CG like Tekkens 1-3 on PSX. I just watched Heihachi and Asuka's. Heihachi's is funny as shit. Asuka's is also funny. I'd post the link but it's on someone's ftp. If someone can can host them I will be glad to send them.

The endings in Tekken 4 were also CG. It's just that they used low-poly models to make it look closer to the in-game stuff. TTT is the only one with real-time endings.

In other words they looked like crap. :D

These look great. Anyone want to host?

Sorry, I meant Tekken 4 also had CG endings. And, yeah, they didn't look as good as the intro, but they didn't look that bad compared to the PS1 Tekken's endings.

Anyway, why spoil the endings when you can see them in 3 days time?

Agreed (even though I would watch them anyway if they were up).

As for this being the official Tekken 5 thread, nice. I'm hyped to get this and it's actually one of the few things I'm looking forward to this week.

I really like the card system for Tekken 5 in arcades. I finally got enough gold to buy my Bryan a ski mask...made his name "Local Rapist".

can you post descriptions of the endings in spoiler tags?

Sure...

Heihachi:

Heihachi's ending starts with a closeup of his father, Jinpachi. He is struggling to break loose from some chains. The camera zooms out to reveal that Jinpachi has in fact, been chained to the side of a giant rocket. The camera pans to show that Jinpachi isn't alone. Kazuya and Jin are also strapped to the rocket. The rocket lifts off and the camera splits the picture into 3 parts...one with Jinpachi, one with Kaz, and one with Jin. They are all screaming in a very humorous way. The camera then show's Heihachi standing on a cliff (the same one he threw Kazuya off of?) laughing his ass off.

Asuka:

Asuka's ending starts by showing Jinpachi disintegrating. After that it shows Jin lying on the ground unconscious in his Devil form. Jinpachi's death turns him back into his normal self. Asuka runs to him and tries to wake him up. She is very concerned about his well being and she starts calling for help. She doesn't realize it but while she is holding him calling for help she heals Jin's wounds. Jin regains consciousness and is in a shock. It seems that he does not have any memories from when he was Devil Jin. He stumbles and falls on top of Asuka...his face firmly planted in her chest. He stays there for a good 10 seconds (there's even a sort of tumbleweed that goes buy-actually its a rock but the effect is the same). Jin finally gets up and he is still dazed and confused. Asuka is like "What's the big idea?" Jin says he isn't sure what happened. Asuka replies "Don't play stupid with me you pervert!!! and knocks him across the field into a rock formation. He hits with such a force that the rock formation explodes. Asuka turns and walks away and as Jin starts to get up a rock falls from the sky, knocks him in the head, and he is unconscious again.

About 90% of the endings in Tekken 5 are PURE COMEDY. The only ones that are serious at all are the 'badass' guys, like Jin, Kaz, Marduk and such. Shit, even Paul's ending is funny too. My favourites so far?

1. Asuka
2. Heihachi
3. Law
4. Kuma/Panda
5. Anna

Law's is definitely top tier! Lee's ending is... very, very disturbing.

cheers for the spoilers, I probably won't get around to playing this (PAL) and no PS2, but I've always liked the story, despite it's sillyness.

Yeah the card system from VF is nice. Some of the items are enough to make almost a completely different outfit. My main problem with it is that it takes hundreds and hundreds of wins to unlock the good stuff. I think stuff will be easier to unlock in the home versions. I hear that they added some new items as well.

Yeah...it's too bad theres no card reader thing implemented in the PS2 version so you can bring your items to the arcade. :(

EDIT: Getting those 2 endings now from the FTP.

No new items are in the home version. It's the same as the arcade... about 5 items per body part.

It's easier to earn money though. Depending on the rank you can earn up to 3000 g per match before Tekken Roulette. On the other hand if you face someone who's of lower rank, you get less money.

Lee's ending.... let's just say that the diaper is the least of your worries. :p

Drat!!!

Does the game have a kumite mode like VF4 or is it like the arcade (where you fight a few generic fighters mixed in with a few ranked guys)?

I was wondering if the arcade stick bundled with Tekken 5 was really worth it. Anything would be better than using my DS2 for T5 right now, but still... I'd like to know if it's quality. :)

And are some people getting T5 early?

Reno-

By chance, do you know if Namco has implemented a feature as to where the individual user can track his/her rankings, wins&losses, and customizations from one console to another?

thanks in advance

I'd also like descriptions of any endings. I can't wait 2 days!

Do you just now get more money from CPU fights, because in the arcade you only get 25 G per fight. Can you rank up against the CPU?

Are the time release characters unlocked on Tekken 2 and 3?

And how do you get them in T5? Surely you don't get 3 at a time like arcade.

Can you have a custom file for every character or is there a limit?

Hey Reno, can you tell a little about what goes on in Christie's ending. I really want to know what exactly namco can show about her with the fact that HER STORY SUCKS ASS!

I mean, what will they show? Her dancing? Fighting?

I like both a lot. Much better than Jin's new fur outfit.

I'm so glad to see a bunch of 3rd outfits that are completely new. Too many outfits in T5 are old.

Can't wait for T5! Does anybody know if Paul has the option to fight with his hair down like in T4?

Yes. It's one of the customizations. You can also unlock a pony tail hairstyle and the 'skycraper' hair style (think of his regular hairstyle.... now imagine if it was twice as tall).

1up review is up. They liked it, but it's one of the worst fighting game reviews I've ever read. Full of typos and factual errors.

Asuka Mishima? :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Edit: I just finished reading the entire review. Wow. You weren't kidding. That's one of the worst reviews I've ever read for a game period, let alone a fighting game. Some of the stuff he wrote makes me wonder if he even played the game.

They mention a raptor being in. What's sad is there's so many mistakes in that review I'm doubting Alex is actually back.

I'm sooo glad the series is recovering from 4 to the greatness it used to b! :D

WTF about Asuka's ending, aren't they related?

My guess is the reviewer is wrong (shocker, I know). If Alex was back we probably would have heard about it by now.

Yeah, cousins.

I am wondering if Heihachi is going to be hard to unlock or just come with the others. It's so strange that I'm going to be playing as him on PS2 before the arcade gets him.

I keep watching this "menu and options" video and my dreams/hopes/anticipations for using profiles across different systems keep fading. But, when I go over to Ebgames.com and look under the 190-something pictures, there's clearly two different profiles being used in match play (albeit in Japanese).

If anyone wants to take a look, it's probably within the last 30 pictures or so on that website. I just get the feeling that Namco is going to make the same *crucial* mistake that AM2 did with Virtua Fighter 4.

What is the link to this vid/pictures of the menus? I haven't seen that.

Is Tekken 5 (PS2) arcade perfect?

No. The arcade version runs on accelerated PS2 hardware, similar to how Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag also ran on accelerated PSOne hardware. AFAIK the big difference is in the backgrounds, but the PS2 version still looks very good and should play exactly the same in any case.

Ok, WTF? Based on that vid it looks lke you have one single file with one name for EVERY character. So if you win fight money with Kazuya you can then use it for Jin? That is messed up. I was thinking it'd be like the arcade, just without the cards.

I'm not going to pass TOO much judgement on it until I have it in my hands and actually try it out, but it sounds really lame. Almost a complete bummer for the release for me, personally, but I suppose I'll live.

Come to think of it.....with one profile, and money being spread out through the entire profile (not character specific), would that logically mean that once you rank up with one character.....that every character under that user will be that rank? I hope to God not.

Yeah, how would ranking work now? And will it still keep track of your wins/loses? I hope so, and I hope there's a SEPERATE win/lose record for versus play.

I'm kind of glad the money is apparently shared, because I was seriously dreading trying to win thousands of gold with characters I don't use like Christie or Nina....but no seperate names is so lame. Goofy names relating to the characters is half the fun!

One small thing I really want is a timer in the records screen. For some reason Tekken games never have it. I've always wanted to see how much time I've logged onto these games after playing them for years and years.

AFAIK the big difference is in the backgrounds, but the PS2 version still looks very good and should play exactly the same in any case.
From what I've seen, there's no (visible) difference. Remember the thread with screenshot comparisions? Pretty much everyone agreed they looked identical.

There will never. Never be a Tekken ending that has a moment as good as seeing the back of Heihachi's shirt in Tekken 2.

Of course, I'd like to be proven wrong here.
