The one game NFTs make sense..... POKEMON!

This started as a discussion with a friend by thinking of cards games like Magic and Yugioh to implement NFTs

But it opened up a pandoras box when we realize it would work, dramatically, with Pokemon.

Pokemon, a mainline gsme, where the pokemon are NFTs.

Theoretically, NFTs could replace/enhanced two features to near real-time:

Rarity

Imagine 1 Zaptos or 1 Mew in the entire game... Across all players. And when a player captures it, everyone single players knows... Across all games.

That would create a massive change to the ecosystem and economic within pokemon. (of course other factors and features would have to be improved such as, the tame-ability of powerful pokemons, would certain pokemon even be possible to capture.)

Population

With NFTs, it would be possible to incorporate a sort of "limitation" of how many pokemone exist. For examples, what if there were 1million magikarps but only 5% of them can evolve. Or the possibility of endangered pokemons, pokemon that are not only rare to find but also impossible to find and reproduce.

NFTs could quite possibly make pokemons within a mainline series hold not only a digital value but real life worth.

Some will hate it, some will be intrigued.

What do you think?

You just know the op got a fucking raging hard on while writing this.

And why would you want to monetize a social aspect of the game, that has always worked fine without NFT-
Honestly, NFT seems to have been created to solve problems that either don't exist, or to try to solve problems that could could be solved without NFT.Leave this shit out of games, it doesnt belong there. Or anywhere else for that matter.

There's something I want you to do.

Look up the nearest zoo with alligators/crocodiles/lions/tigers/leopards and go up and pet chosen animal.

That sounds like an absolutely incredible idea. I just think you may be onto something that totally reinvigorates Pokémon as a game series and brings with it a whole new dynamic to ownership and trading. Simply put it's revolutionary. Capturing a rare NFT Pokémon can really strengthen the connection between us as players and our Poképets. This really benefits the end user in ways that can be quite hard to imagine in the present day, but true ownership of your virtual Pokémon can finally fulfill the true vision of the original games and make the heart and soul of the series a realisation after all these years. This is what Pokémon should have always been. Gotta catch 'em all.

Excellent post OP.

You can do all that without NFTs.

All an NFT would do is make it so that the whereabouts of the item ownership is not held by Nintendo in some database, but instead a publicly visible blockchain.

An NFT is a record of data/ownership/whatever it represents. It isn't a feature set.

It's the Diablo 3 'auction house' from 2012 (a disaster) in 2022. It's just about publishers making money from idiots. Who wants a Pikachu001267 ? It's all the same. Bullshit!

Some men just want to watch the world burn.
But you… you wouldn't be content with that.

Despite the spelling I understand what you mean: Across all players. And when a player captures it, everyone single players knows... Across all games.

Scenario: "Hinedorf Captures Charizard" Hinedorf is now super popular, Hinedorf has something of great value, and every scummy person associated with pokemon who would try to cheat the system now knows who has something valuable to be taken.

The idea that NFT's are either safe from the same piracy and hacking that exists in others places. You also realize Pokemon Arceus was on a Playable PC emulator a week before the game was actually released.

Your idea would be great, but people in general are shit.

Great idea! In fact, they should put NFT's in all Nintendo games and only in Nintendo games.

I don't play Nintendo games so it's NIMBY.

It's a hell no from me. But well, it's not like the game is already being made like shit and yet farm out of mindless sheeps.

If they ever release that, goddman they would be swimming in money with even more low-ass content. Imagine scaming money of all these retarted people, would be a dream coming true for them.

Don't give Nintendo ideas. The way things are headed, I could actually see this being a reality in a few years.

That's dumb and doesn't need NFT to be done anyway. You've fallen for the same ol scam bs regarding blockchain, crypto and NFT, good job, your next stop is Zimbabwe princes wanting your help to transfer their gold. If you're 12 you'll learn some day I guess, if not, gosh, use the internet matey.

NFTs still make no sense in Pokémon... no...

Pokemon are an IP owned by Nintendo. therefore Nintendo would regulate where you can use these harshly.

they already have an account system that can track data like that and that system could be used to do exactly what NFTs could do, at way less environmental impact and way less convoluted and prone for abuse

NFTs are pure nonsense that make zero sense no matter where you use it for or for what.
they are simply a receipt stored publicly for everyone to see, for an item that could fade from existence at any time. pure bullshit with zero use.

Jesus OP, I haven't seen many objectively wrong opinions in my life, but that's definitely one.

Lol, welp it looks like some Nintendo exec saw this thread and laughed at all of you because they already started working on nickel and diming you further.

This exactly.

Nintendo could already do this without NFTs. They won't, because they are Nintendo.

The only thing a NFTs based implementation would do is put ownership directly in players and 3rd party hands. And take control away form Nintendo. They obviously will never allow this because they are not morons.

Op are you working for EA? Or Ubi?
Because this kind of shitty idea is greatly appreciated in these companies

I would actively hate this. EVERY player wants to be the legendary collector, not watch someone else do it 😄

This old 11 yr old meme fits here:

OP, you do realize that all those things are possible without blockchain? A MMO structure can do all of this and more for a fraction of the operating cost.
