The Order: 1886 |OT| Gears of Yore

So much detail. Did you notice that silverware (jugs, cups etc) all reflect Galahad when you come close? Amazing. And yet mirrors don't reflect at all -
Galahad vampire confirmed! The Order are all Vampires, the Blackwater and the Grail is just coke in a cup, Vampires is the real reason they're essentially immortal

LOL. The Order 1887:

Galahad discovers cola and starts a cola-drink business. Help Galahad build and expand his empire and defeat the United India Company! 100+ hours of gameplay!

They are vampires, basically the Lycans and Vampires have joined forces, the vampires are using the Lycans as protection. The vampires are trying to spread their disease around the world and using the Lycans as a front to do so. The Lycans that walk on 2 feet are Elder Lycans, much stronger than the others

Ok but
then it's a bit weird that we see none of them, if they're supposed to 'spread their disease' then there should be at least mentions of sightings of them, or maybe people just mistake them for Lycans when they attack ? Or maybe the offensive hasn't started yet and they somehow stay gently inside their crates before the signal is given ? where do they go once they arrive at destination ? It all seems a bit weird that there are vampires seemingly everywhere but nobody knows it :p

Since they put blood in it... it may be possible that are vampires.

Lord Hastings is a vampire, he is also Jack the Ripper. There are many mentions of his killings throughout the game. I believe the Vampires are using the Lycans as cover. They just started with shipping them to other places in the World, seems like the Vampires for now are based in London. I think people are just mistaking the thing the Vampires do as them being done by Lycans.

Well, been playing the game on Hard and it seems I like to take my time compared to most people. I'm only on chapter V and so far I'm really enjoying my time with it. After the amount of open world games I've played in the past 2 years it feels refreshing to play a straight story-based shooter.

I have to say I'm not bothered by lengthy cutscenes, as long as they're well done I like them. I see a few instances where they could have kept player control during them, but I guess it's an artistic choice.

The shooting feels great, really tight. I usually dislike shotguns in games, but they wreck in this game. Overal the weapons are great, the dueling revolver being pretty awesome and the thermite gun is a wonder.

Only thing I really dislike so far is the damn QTEs. Then again I never liked any QTE in any game, I always find them annoying and aggravating.

Got the platinum last night and I loved the vast majority of the game (took me roughly 12 hours all in all). Yes, the game definitely had some pacing issues during the final third and the game-play sometimes descending into a game of whack-a-mole but I though the story was intriguing and overall it was a perfect way to set up a long running franchise.

Unfortunately, due to poor showing from critics and a number of "bigger" games on the horizon, I fear we may never see the conclusion of this story. Such a shame as I though the setting, game-play and story-line were good enough to warrant much better scores than it received. The only saving grace is that now the engine is done RAD may be able to complete a follow-up on a relatively small budget.

Now I'm stuck with a bit of a conundrum. Do I trade it in now that I've done everything and it has a good trade-in value or keep hold of it as I can definitely see myself playing through it again in a few months time.

Its funny to me that the gameplay was my favorite part of the game.

I'd hope that for most games you enjoy, this would be the case. Otherwise, it's probably not a very good game.

I'm not going to drop money on The Order until it's a lot cheaper but a couple of the weapons looked so satisfying when watching Lirik stream it. It was just a huge disappointment to see that every time he was getting into the fighting he would have control wrenched away to watch another cutscene that completely killed the mood he'd built up fighting enemies prior.

Trade it and buy it digitally on its first discount, I say.

I'm glad you can choose which chapter and segments in the chapter you want to play. Handy if you want to go back and get the platinum trophy as well as playing back your favourite parts.

That was my first thought TBH. I know it has definitely earned a place in my permanent collection but it seems folly not to take advantage of the prices offered now.

I just hope I don't miss out on some surprise DLC or something, although I think that ship has now sailed.

Just a thought going over the last few pages (I didn't read back from where I left off before bed last night so if anyone responded to something I posted I apologise if I don't address it).

If Lafayette lived through the American and French revolutions then he must be getting something to keep him immortal-ish. When he becomes a knight the Lord Chancelloy does say that only when one knight dies does another person take on their mantle. Presumably then Lafayette was being trained by the Order and kept in waiting until someone kicked the bucket. And all of them, except the Lord Chancellor, would have been in the same position at some point as well.

So ultimately, while they may not have natural lifespans, the idea of a knight dying is built right into the structure of the Order.

While a part of me hopes that they have an ace up their sleeve, some sort of Arena/Horde mode, I know I'm kidding myself. If they had something like that they definitely would have talked about it through this shitstorm.

Just finished. I really enjoyed it. Took my time on the collectibles so I didn't feel short changed.

The stealth sections annoyed me a tad since I couldn't vault over environmental barriers when playing stealth sections.

Shooting was rock solid and I really appreciate the details from either the bombastic reactions from a shotgun or arc blast to even the simple things like enemies pausing when noticing their hat or helmet being blown off.

The melee attacks remind me of TLoU melee attacks in terms of how visceral and dynamic they were. Those little variations cleared up any moment of staleness I could've gotten.

The graphics are self explanatory. This game has the best console in terms of realism to date (reflectionless mirrors be danged lol). Probably won't be until FFXV until something compares or outshines it.

I know many have issues with QTEs but I'm the guy who loved Asura's Wrath and will sing its praises forever. So yep. It was a short n sweet ride and pleased me well enough to look forward to a sequel.

Fake Edit: Lycan battles were cheese fest lol

Got to the end of chapter 3, and apart from all the beautiful thing you could (and should!) say about the graphics, design and art direction, i'm seriously quite disappointed by how little you actually shoot.
I hope the pace changes soon, because up to this point the shooting phases - which despite being very classic and far from revolutionary feel good, thanks to a satisfying gunplay - seem like an in-between from one cutscene and the next one.
And as much as i like narration, i like to PLAY videogames, you know.

Question did anyone else feel the game healing aspect was useless ?
I played the game on hard with aim assist off and the only time i need to heal was vs shotgun guys .
But they kill you to fast for it to even matter .

Utter waste of time if you needed to heal, it just slowed down a death/restart. If a shotgunner was on you it was like a sick joke of a button mash (if you got past the triangle prompt, that is).

NX Gamer in depth tech analysis. Can't believe how detailed they got when they made this game, I don't see anything touching it for a while. This engine is a beast. He picks up on things that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else.

yeah.. the shaders. goddamn. Best i've seen. I just keep staring at materials and skin.

Lycan battles need to go, really let the game down

They need to change. They were really bad and really badly animated. But the
elder fights
were much better. Those were really tense moments.

So,
is Lady Igraine nude in this at some point or is it just some random NPC women?

Not really important I guess but curiosity is an alluring mistress.

I'm having a mare with Blacksight in the later chapters.

Used it fine in the tutorial and not touched it since.

Figured I'd better start using it for some trophies....

Can't work the bugger, lol

Use right stick to switch targets. If the reticle is red, it means that the current target is already dead.

On chapter 4 so far (haven't been able to really sink my teeth into it), and the game picked up a bit. I restarted it after completing Chapter 1, so I could get into it with a bit more rhythm and I started to enjoy the game more.

The combat, while pretty standard, felt quite nice mostly because of how well the weapons are handled. They really stand out nicely and they all feel like they have their own identity and are not just modeled differently with a slight difference in sound. Gunplay is definitely satisfying. The story hasn't really picked up yet, so I can't really comment on it, but I'm interested in knowing what the hell is going on. The characters are pretty good so far. Marquis promises to be quite an entertaining character. I also like Percival's mystery. Galahad seems like a cool enough character so far and Lady Igraine I don't like much.

Dat first lycan encounter though. Lord... I'm pretty flexible when it comes to games, and I don't intend to arm chair dev here, but come on... There's no reason why they couldn't make that lycan gameplay a bit more interesting (I read that it doesn't get better, so...). That encounter, I'm sorry to say, was borderline, if not flat out, lazy.

Anyway, hopefully I can play a bit more tonight.

Say a sequel got greenlit and RAD took into account all of the gameplay shortcomings...

Would you guys want them to change the output to 16:9 or keep it the way it is, black bars and all?

I didn't even notice the black bars tbh. Game kept my eyes focused on the characters and the world too much to notice them!

If the aspect ratio is the price we have to pay for having such amazing visuals, then I say keep em. Since the game was designed around them they really didn't bother me that much, unlike The Evil Within which was an absolute mess technically.

there has got to be DLC to close some elements of the story, i mean, so so many things were left unanswered, i really hope they release some DLC to tie things up until the next game

Btw, I forgot to say something about the visuals.

I'm in the minority here... I mean, the game looks undeniably ridiculous overall. They succeeded in creating that almost CGI look. The attention to detail, the lighting. I pause in awe to what RAD has accomplished visually with this game.

However... I would've prefer to have a sharper image. The blurriness really bothers me at times. I completely understand why it looks the way it looks and I accept the fact that this is their vision, but I can't help feeling that having less blur would make the game look better in my eyes. The DOF is impressively implemented for their overall visual presentation, but it can get in the way of gameplay at times. Sometimes it takes a good 1-2 seconds for enemies to come into focus when they're far away.

All in all, I really appreciate what they accomplished here, but my preferences lie elsewhere.

Completed the game last night, I'd say it took me around 7 hours.

Im a bit torn about the game to be honest. I did enjoy a lot of it but it kind of felt like there was a good game hidden inside somewhere but there were too many issues to ignore. My main problem was the story. It was almost like the dev thought up this whole backstory and world but then forgot to include loads of it. I spent a lot of time having no idea why I was doing what I was doing which is a shame as I really liked the characters and found the world intriguing.

...Also, fuck forced stealth sections with automatic fails!

Still though, its a gorgeous game. Not sure I've actually seen better. If a sequel does get made then I would be interested to play it. Hopefully they take on board a lot of the complaints.

I have to say that the black bars didn't really bother me at all. Surprising really as I hated then in The Evil Within.

For continuity's sake I'd say just leave them in.

Personally, I just wish I could kill the film grain and motion blur (and black borders, but still) and I'd be much happier with the visuals.... not that I was complaining anyway.

After all the bitching about the black bars, I was surprised how unobtrusive they were. I mean for starters, and maybe it's my TV, they hardly take up any screen space at all. I would have no problem whatsoever with them in a sequel.

Keep them. Eventually, I've forgotten they existed.
