The Order: 1886 |OT| Gears of Yore

Xaero Gravity

NEXT LEVEL lame™
So those finishing the game, are you keeping it? Going to pick up my copy after work today.
I'm absolutely trading it in and that's something I never do. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying it, but it's not something I ever see myself going back to just to reexperience some things as nothing so far has stood out. I'll probably finish it up tonight and trade it in the morning.

Spray some compressed air in it, if you got it, and just let it chill for a while, yeah.

yea I'm spraying it and letting it cool off. Sucks since I got to the ballroom level.

Does it have enough room ?[/QUOTE]

Yea its in an open area, I learned from my mistakes last gen but this has me scared, I just got DOA5 too. Guess I'll keep that in its wrap until another time

It seems really noticeable how short this game is. It seems almost everyone who got that today is already finishing it and giving their overall impressions.

Complaints about the general gunplay in reviews just further confirms my theory that game reviewers are sick of shooting in games, in general.

Cuz this shit is hot, reviewers have no idea what good gunplay means.

It seems that way but it's really not that much shorter than similar games. As I mentioned in another thread, my Uncharted 3 playthrough was only 7 hours 3 minutes the first time around.

I have no real interest in MP but that will definitely hurt for some.

I trust your opinion on a lot of titles so I'm following your impressions closely. Good to hear about the gunplay being tight.

I managed to complete the game in about 5 and half hours, that was while trying to pick up all artefacts. Review scores left me worried I would be disappointed but I'm not, while the game is short I did enjoy playing through the campaign and thought the story was quite good once it picked up as the pacing at the beginning was terrible.

Nice, my CE was finally delivered, so it'll be waiting for me when I get home. Usually my wife will install any updates/dlc patches, etc, so it'll all set to go. Really looking forward to sinking my teeth into it for a bit tonight before bed, since I have OT tomorrow, I can't stay up too late tonight playing it.

For people going the trade in route - Amazon is offering $38 and you don't have to ship it for 7 days. So you can lock in that value today and mail it in a week after finishing the game.

I don't think RAD lied, I agree they were very straightforward from the start about this being a blend of "filmic" elements and game.

There are some interesting points that I would like answered though, like how they mentioned the physics being an integral part of the game and that we would find out why, yet it seems that part was by and large forgotten or abandoned.

That and weren't branching QTE's originally mentioned as well? Where you could pass them multiple ways kind of like Heavy Rain.

Agree completely. The gunplay is fantastic in this game, some of the best I've played in the last few years.

Edit: Wonder if release day would be a good time to announce some sort of DLC or plans to have people keep the game.

I am keeping it, just like all my games though lol

Yea it's a little bewildering to me. Gunplay/combat and character movement all feel smooth as hell to me...

So far the gunplay is great. I really hope they get a sequel. Because I feel we will get an uncharted 1 to 2 jump. They have their engine. Now just build more game and fix some of the glaring issues that they feel this game has.

Have played up to chapter... ten? I think? And here are my thoughts so far.

Things I like:
- The graphics are undeniably fantastic.
- The world and characters are engaging.
- The cutscenes certainly aren't boring.
- Shooting and cover mechanics are solid.

Things I don't like (nitpicks):
- The black bars are weird, but largely ignorable.
- There is a complete lack of character reflections, particularly noticeable in the starting building with a large puddle and two mirrors that reflect everything else. STORY SPOILERS:
I've now found out there are Vampires in the game, so unless Galahad is a vampire, this will remain a nitpicky flaw in my eyes.
- Gameplay so far has been very... FFXII-ish. Cutscene > Walking > Shooting Gallery > Repeat.
- The fun weapons are continuously taken away from you in lieu of the more standard guns. This is very annoying.
- I receive movement tutorials every few minutes, but I die 5-6 times before a tutorial for using your Blackwater pops up.
- Armoured guys (usually with Thermite Rifles) are all but terminators, absorbing way too many bullets for someone wearing standard chainmail and plate. Lycans are easier to down than these guys.
- QTEs that have buttom promts that make sense only sometimes (A melee/takedown in a QTE can be any button as opposed to just the melee button), but gun related QTE has you pressing the correct fire or alt-fire buttons. Admittedly lots of games do this.
- I have a lantern and therefore can no longer take cover.
- Your partners are useless and do nothing to attack enemies or draw enemy fire.
- Chapters can go buy without any gameplay.

I better end that there. I'd suggest a rental, as it's definitely not a replayable game unless you're keeping it to show off the PS4's graphics to people. Especially not worth the Next-Gen Tax in the UK.

If it had more gameplay variety it could have been great, but there's some minimal platforming and literal shooting galleries.

Hopefully a sequel is made and they can improve on what they have here.

I have no real interest in MP but that will definitely hurt for some.

The main problem is that, if everything related about the game lenght is right, there are too many cut-scenes, something that is not a reality with Uncharted games. Also, I love Uncharted games but finished all of them at least 2 times, but that's because they still have some replay value, I did one normal run and at least one another run to get the treasures and finishing it at crushing mode, what again, is not the case with The Order.

So, not really a problem if the game is 7~10 hours long and single player only, the problem is how was that executed and if you're probably gonna never touch it again after finishing it once. That is what makes it hard to justify the full price. Imo of course.

I can't really comb through the thread at the moment but payday just hit and I'm deciding if I should abandon my better judgement and bite on this.

A few months back I told myself I would read the review scores but a lot of the fan opinion and critic opinion differ really heavily so should I just pick it up?

I don't mind a shorter length (as a film student actively studying and writing a script, shorter, conducive experiences are pretty welcome.)

TL;DR- Should I buy it?

All I would really ask for with this is solid visuals, a solid story, solid performance, and a fun steampunk action romp with fun shooting mechanics.

Buy it.
I think that you would like it from what you want. Also, the game has a very cinematic presentation, thus it might fit you very much as a film student.

I'm hoping for a "The Order has sold through 3 million copies" announcement next week. That will be a fun thread. Is it likely?

Oh boy, this would be hilarious. :D

Oh yeah, for sure. I was just responding to the post that said it seems like people are finishing the game in a really short amount of time, but the total hours from start to end aren't far off the norm for a lot of these.

The value issue is definitely up for debate and will vary from person to person.

Good thing very few reviewers have actually made a complaint regarding that then.

User ratings are terrible, most people who rated it probably haven't played it.

They are almost always a mix of 1s and 10s.

Heh that's not strange at all happen with very big release for every platform.

Yes you are right. Still some games manage to get a good User rating, despite the bad "professional" ratings. Thougt it could be similar here.

I hope everyone and everything at Rad is doing fine. The game may have some flaws, sure, but I can see enough "Soul" and already hope for a sequel.

Credits rolling.

Pretty good game. Lost count on my playthrough probably in 9-10 hours. I was checking every corner and died several times on those tight corners with almost unlimited spawning of enemies.

Now into getting the remaining trophies..

Campaigns can easily be finished in a day. It's just The Order has no other modes for re-playability.

I have task for GAF,
The free theme you get from the Website, the one called "Mayfair Theme",
I need to find the music track of that because is freaking majestic and I can't find it in the OST!
I've had the PS4 on for about 2 hours just listening to the music while studying.

Edit: bananafactory found it!
