The Pac-Man quote.

Sorry, couldn't think of a better thread title. I mean the quote about games not affecting kids, blah blah, you know. I always thought it was a quote from one of those old books about videogames, but now that I for an irrelevant reason wanted to research it, everyone on Google is saying it was made by some PR person at Nintendo? I've heard a lot of differing sources for it, but Nintendo has never been one of them until just now when it's all over the place...

So, does anyone know or is it one of those quotes that doesn't really come from anywhere in particular? (Or was it really Nintendo? That would be confusing to me.)

If Pacman had affected us as kids we'd be running around in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music.

This isn't from Miyamoto though, if I remember.

Yeah, Ecrofirt's got it. There are variations, of course, but that's the gist of it. Definitely isn't Miyamoto, though.

I've looked up the origins of that qoute too, and remember reading that someone figured it was just something someone made up and attributed to a recognizible name. It's an urban/internet myth as it were.

Dudes, seriously, it's Marcus Brigstocke. He's a comedian from the UK, and the joke dates back to the early 90's, around the height of necking E's and going to illegal parties in dingy warehouses. It's got fuck all to do with Nintendo.
