Has anyone here even been in the Peace Corps or know someone who was/is? I'd like to hear any opinions or stories you can offer.

It's something that's become a very strong interest of mine over the past several weeks, and after pouring over as much information and literature as I could find, I'm coming close to making a final decision. This kind of thing is way the fuck out of my comfort zone, and at times seems like an absolutely insane thing to do, but I can't really imagine not going through with it now. Just a matter of when, really.

I don't have time right at the moment to get into the details of how this came about and whatever, but uhh, yeah. Discuss!

It's a rich boy's club. Their ranks are dominated by the children of rich and influential people. People that do not fit into either of those two categories had better have a documented degree in a skill that would be worthwhile to the Corps, typically in the area of linguistics or degrees in multiple languages.

The enrollment process is lengthy. There'd better not be any blemishes on your criminal or psychological record, and if you've had any major surgeries that could require upkeep, you're out.

If you don't have a 4 year college degree, you're out.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. I was trying to arrange an enlistment some years back, and a couple of my friends actually went in.

EDIT: If you really want to make your life interesting and have an experience that you will never forget, may I suggest becoming an expatriate?
