Doing overnight remodels for stores in the seattle area. I spent 10 hours on a 40 foot long 85 inch high planogram that was nothing but binders. Talk about ARGH.

What made me mad about the one tonight was that it wasnt that we were just getting new product, they wanted me to move 40 feet of shelving and product down 8 feet.

My hands are all cut up and bruised from getting those battered shelves to fit into the notches. Oh well, day off, booze, games. ITS OK!

Placement of merchandise isnt some accident, or a whim. Head office tells most stores how to display stuff. Thats what the planogram is.

From my days in retail, I found that Head Office had no clue. They'd constantly make POGs that didn't fit the store, or had items we didn't have, or items that were incorrectly measured, and they wanted it all to fit perfectly. Never mind that the store in question was bought from another chain and therefore had no way of containing the dimensions of said POGs.

Bastards. All of them.

i don't see what's the big deal with 'em. mind you i only had 1 experience with 'em, but we had missing stuff, extra stuff and 4 feet less shelving space than the actual plan. you just gotta improvise a bit since it's more of guideline. plus i operate under the impression that nobody really cares. as long as similar things are in the general proximity to each other and somewhat coherent then it's fine. you can do that w/o planograms.

Fuck the Plano. At my work we use it as a guideline, but we are out of shit so much that we have to make do with what we have, i.e. flex. I'm sure you guys know that term too.

Planograms are evil, evil I tell you. They're designed by people in suits who have no clue of what will fit where.

Most of the time you end up with stuff that doesn't fit and stuff that you don't even carry anymore.
