I actually caught a bit of Toddlers and Tiaras earlier today.

In between Supersize vs Superskinny, My Super Sweet 16, and Man vs Food.
 
The reason I ask is because we're looking for gaming podcasts to cover in 2013. I've got one or two ideas, but we'd love to hear some suggestions. (We're finishing GFW Radio and Giant Bombcast this year.) I definitely want to do an Out of the Game best-of. Some people have asked for Retronauts, but a best-of of that would be a little trickier than an ordinary show. I think one guy has emailed us asking us to look at Player One, so we might do that if there's interest.
 
There's a good recap of the first 100 or so episodes that came out around the time of ep 100, so that might be a good jumping off point for the early stuff.

Phil's anime story is great. Legend of the Overfiend is legendary. I saw that at my friend's house when I was in middle school. I was never the same...lol

Three Moves Ahead
 
CJ, you painted with a pretty broad brush when you talked about that last part of Skyward Sword being a collectathon. Yes, the forest area is clearly a collectathon, but the other two areas really aren't. In the desert, you go through a mini-dungeon to get an item. I guess you could say that's simply "collecting things," but then you could really say that about any video game that exists ever. I can understand complaining about the volcano area because it plays differently than the rest of the game and some people have a low tolerance for the sort of gameplay, but it's kind of a stretch to says it's about collecting stuff, especially since there's a bunch of new puzzles involving those mechanics. Zelda is about solving puzzles and doing dungeons. If you don't enjoy that stuff, then why are you playing a Zelda game?
 
I haven't listened to the whole episode: Did CJ finish Skyward Sword?

I really need to go back and finish that game. I saw some of CJ's tweets this week and it sounded like he was around the part where I abandoned it.

No. I hope he sticks with it because the ending sections are pretty badass. He's going to have trouble with those bosses, though, unless he's gotten substantially better at sword fighting than the last time he mentioned the game.

All this Zelda talk just reminds me of how miserable that Tadnote section is. It's so terrible that I'm not surprised that CJ conflated it with the other two sections even though I just whined about him doing that.

Anyway, I like that Phil correctly cited the Star Wars book that prominently features the Max Rebo Band. It's good to know that there are other Max Rebo aficionados out there, especially one with such a large public presence.

There's a really good chance the new episode has been published. I have no idea what sort of chicanery adds it to the iTunes feed, or honestly if the thing is even going to show up on Libsyn. Please to be watching our website over the next hour to see if the thing actually goes live.

I miss CJ.

About Skullgirls, one of the designers is a fighting game tourney player. The soundtrack is by the SotN composer.
 
I have a backlog of eps. Finishing the one before this.

Next is this weeks. Which saddens me that missed the stream of what may have been the ME3 spoilercast. Sigh.... :(
 
I got past the ME3 spoilercast and now i'm immensely saddened that I wasn't on listening when the live stream happened ( if it did).

I don't know why dana felt that the mass relays were saved in the other 2 endings. They get destroyed by in all the ending if I'm not mistaken.

Did any of you got the synthesis option? I know that you didn't speak about it, but i don't know if it was because you didn't choose it or it just wasn't available to you guys.

There are decisions in ME1 & 2 that do affect events in ME3. Moridin mission in ME2 will play a part if you can cure the genophage or not. Legions ME2 mission will play a factor if you can save tali and/or recruit the geth. As far as my understanding goes that's true.

I thought that Mik agreed, like i also do, that this "artistic integrity" argument is bullshit. ME3 is basically a commercial product that was most likely focus tested and altered by people beyond the "creative" team. I can't comprehend the argument that a piece of media with that bit of a staff would have a single artistic vision.

I wish that Mik didn't rushed the game. There are some really good moments during the journey. Jack, samara, moridin, wrex, miranda, thane, all of them were given good parts, minus being part of the team.

I wish there was more detail in the convo.

Did you guys shoot udina?

Did you cure the genophage?

Did you save tali's planet?

Did you recruit the geth?

Did you kill miranda's father?

Did you kill samara?

Did tali kill herserlf?

.... So much to know.
 
There is much to know, I guess. It just feels like a lot of those answers are more the dipswitch flipping that I referred to. I think that impressions and takeaways from the overall experience are more interesting (and individual) than simply telling people which set of variables we chose. And I certainly wouldn't say that I "rushed" the game. But I didn't go out of my way to explore and find things to do outside of what I deemed important. Not sure if you noticed, but Earth was under attack from the Reapers. ;) If anything, I think that approach to playing the game offers a nice contrast to people who bought all the available DLC, did every sidequest, played the iOS game, and read three novels to fully immerse themselves in it. I just want whatever is considered "complete" on the disc, without having to do a lot of extra work to glean additional depth (or to make up an entirely different take on the ending).

I do agree with you on the "artistic integrity" argument. I don't think pandering to an audience is anything new for BioWare. And the series has certainly never struck me as something that's in any way auteured. There's no way they can, with a straight face, request that someone treat this as a creative vision--respect it as a work of art rather than a product--when they themselves treat it like a product, over and over again.
 
Man Mike plays everything. It gives me hope when I'm older with a teenage daughter who wants nothing to do with me and my wife and I are sick of one another that I will finally have time to play a bunch of games :)

indeed, they allowed you to romance Tali and Garrus in ME2 all because of the fan requests. Also, Chobot.... Artistic integrity? pfft
