The Player 1 Podcast Topic

Well, if I was ever going to hear a Son of Svengoolie reference in 2012, it was going to be on the Player 1 Podcast. Can't wait for next week's Empire Carpet tangent.

No 8-bit pop songs and no Mario Bros.

I forgot which podcast I was listening to there for a moment.

An improved one, I noticed less wheezing and less bullshit. Phil keeps trying to do the "throw my head back and cackle" but that's a far cry from the "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFGASPAHAHAHAHHA" that I'm used to.

Improved show. Now to get CJ to stop gasping for air and keep him from thinking chiptunes are neat.

Was that pop song on the break from Girls Like Robots? It sounded like it was playing under the discussion also but I couldn't tell for sure

Catchy

No, it was Samantha Fox's "I Wanna Have Some Fun." Girls Like Robots has a bluegrass type, folksy soundtrack.

Do I do a lot of gasping on the show? I usually don't end up listening to the whole thing... hrmmm

Chiptunes are neat.

Phil, a better comparison would have been that Retro City Rampage is the Robot Chicken of video games. 'Hey, remember this?' what's the punch line? '...HEY REMEMBER THIS?'

Also, chiptunes are garbage

Haven't listened to the podcast but I'm glad someone is looking critically at Retro City instead of masturbating to references. I just played the demo and got sick of the one-trick ponyism after like 10 minutes. I'd pay $1 for this thing. US.

I'm surprised that you lasted that long or that you'd pay that much.

Going by recent history, Retrocity is the sort of shit Sony would give to PSN+ "customers."

It's a good thing the Retrocity dev doesn't listen to Player One. He was raging earlier over IGN's 5.3 review

That's some sad shit. Throw a tantrum on Twitter because your game isn't scored higher? Jesus.

Robot Chicken is equally bad on the "reference=humor" front, but as I'm ripped into Ready Player One on the show before, I felt that deserved the call-out more. Seriously, Ready Player One is not a very good book at all.

Also, the Retrocity guy really got on Greg's case here:

It's not even like Greg was responding to his tweets. This was just a rapid-fire mind dump.

A-fucking-men. It was a fun book up to and including the Joust match. After that it went to total and utter shit.

LOL @ a double standard between GTA 4 and Retrocity. I would sure as Christ hope they were held to different standards.

I actually feel for the developer. Pouring your life into something for any length of time and then getting a bad review (even a single one) is like a dagger to the heart. But the proper response is not to throw a public tantrum. Speak to the reviewer in private if you must, and if he can back up what he says, then agree to disagree.

This stuff just builds you a bad reputation.

Well, I mean... he's not completely wrong.

Greg's review was bullshit.

Gentlemen, just a heads up. You accidentally uploaded an episode of The Cruncheons to your feed.

I've really enjoyed the first 11 minutes. Great discussion, positive and negative.
You all should play the same games more often.

A quick question for Phil or anyone who may know the answer.

I hear of this JRPG that Phil plays and I don't know the spelling of it. Sounds like Eee's, Ease or something of that nature, what is this series?

What Mik said. Just don't call it "wise." Only fools do that.

Also, the Ys series is fantastic. If you like action RPGs, you should totally play 'em.

I don't know what you guys were talking about at the end, this episode was great. I fucking lost it at the More Doors line.

C.J. is great. Chris should not have been hesitant, because puns that specific don't arise often. There is no punchline that ends, "Eru Iluvatar" (I looked it upSHUTUP).

I'm okay with an episode for goofs. Nice one, all.

When I was editing the show last night I got to the More Doors part and again completely lost it. Gotta love it when things just happen like that.
