Only tried 2 very old game so i don't have any strong feeling about it.

Hopefully the sony first parties are gonna bring the goods because for now these pro patches seems very hit and miss, and they usually miss in actual nextgen looking games and not crossgen or remasters.

Sony's PS5 patches are actually good, but for some reason they didn't have Pro patches for their two last releases (Astro Bot and Lego Horizon, which I know nobody gives a shit about and is already forgotten but still). it's the third party stuff that has been very hit and miss. But even in the Sony games I don't think you're getting the juice you did from say Infamous SS or HZD on PS4 Pro in 2017.

I upgraded from the OG Disk Edition. The one thing I've noticed is that it's more quiet. That's about it. But it's making me game more so justify the purchase lmao. So a good buy I guess. No regret.

I also have a huge PS5 backlog. So being able to play many of these games in 60fps fidelity mode is great.

Their patches are great...with what?
Tlou2 remaster? Tlou1 remaster? Crossgen 3 years old horizon? Sp2? Freakin dogma 2 or remilk part 2?

The actual nextgen looking games like sh2r, wukong, avatar, and so on seems like they received pretty meh pro patches or no patches at all.
Many games that still light years better on pc like cyberpunk are not receiving any patch at all.

Is gt7 the only proper nextgen looking game with a good pro patch between all the sony first parties? Maybe ratchet?

I haven't followed much, my knowledge is mostly based on topic titles so maybe some clickbait here and there and the first proper game i'm gonna play on pro is tsushi2 or gta6 so they have time to improve the pisser upscaling tech.
I'm almost happy that sushi 2 looks super meh graphically so i know that the pro patch is gonna be incredible :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Spider-Man 2 pro patch looks amazing, don’t write it off. It’s also a 2023 game and not cross gen.

Already sold that game and i never thought it looked fully nextgen, like many people on gaf, it wasn't even better looking than horizon imo.

So yeah, a good pro patch for that game is not gonna change my mind that much.

I looked at Gamestop and they require you to be a Pro member to even add to cart. I can't remember the last time I bought something from them so they can F right off.
Yes they require Pro to buy it from them. Nice since I am a member and it means I don't have to fight scalpers as much. Bad for people that don't have it since they would have to pay an extra $25 just to get one.

The more time I spend with the PRO and the more games I discover, the more I love it! Games look and feel so good to play that I literally found myself trying games just to check them out and not being able to put the controller down! I'm playing way more games now than I was a month ago and having a blast with many of them. With the best integrations, it is just a sublime experience and it's actually somewhat surprising that it feels that much better than the base PS5 to me. I didn't really expect as much given the specs going in but the sum of it's parts literally elevates PS5 gaming to the next level.

Some context here, I am probably THE prime target for what the PS5 PRO is about. Highest quality "living room" gaming experience with sharp 4K images and smooth 60+ performance optimized for latest HDMI 2.1 TVs with VRR. I am gaming on what I feel is THE best TV money can buy today: the 97" G4 OLED and with the highest quality audio in a 13 channel Dolby Atmos home theater (Note that the TV was a new purchase that aligned with the arrival of the PS5 PRO). To say that the PS5 PRO experience in my setup is breathtaking at times is an understatement. Some of the highlights include Stellar Blade, FFVII Rebirth, RE Village and RE4 Remake, Spiderman 2, TLOU Pt2, GT7, Jedi Survivor, Hogwarts Legacy, and Call of Duty BO6 to name a few. Everything looks so sharp and detailed with high resolution (even in the performance modes), vivid colors, and framerates that exceed 60 in most of the games I've tried which makes playing them feel so good. To get this level of performance (approaching 120fps) but with such high IQ/resolution even on a screen as big as mine is exactly what I had hoped my $700 would get me.

The difference is now easily felt in the majority of enhanced titles to the point where I would say it's near impossible for me to go back to the base PS5 (at least in my main HT setup. I actually still have my base PS5 in a bedroom for my kids and it's fine there). Also, shoutout to boost mode which has also improved the experience on many games that struggled on the base PS5 (Elden Ring, Witcher 3, Robocop, Immortals of Avieum, Cygni: All Guns Blazing just to name a few).

I've always felt that the difference would be larger with the PS5 PRO compared to the PS4 PRO despite that the fact that the PS4 PRO was a larger gap on the spec sheet. In short, additional RT and PSSR could add much more to IQ and graphics fidelity (better A/Bs). Also the performance jump is actually meaningful now because:
  1. 4K is not a new target so the PS5 PRO doesn't have to waste cycles trying to just push resolution like the PS4 PRO did going from 1080p to 4K
  2. The vast majority of games today are actually GPU bound and not CPU bound as was the case during the PS4 era. Since the largest improvements are on the GPU side of both PRO consoles, that difference is more meaningful on games today
  3. We now have new tools such as VRR being much more prevalent to unlock framerates and get more performance benefits than was the case during the PS4 era.
Keep in mind what I said at the start...the more time that passed the better my impression of the system as I was able to see what it is capable of in a variety of titles. If you were to ask me week 1, I would have given the PS5 PRO a 7.5/10. Obviously it's not perfect and the rollout from Sony was flawed in many ways. There should never be games shipping on the PRO that are worst than the base console versions and there were a number of games missing patches at the launch that we really wanted to see. Of course, PSSR has been rather hit or miss overall which isn't the fault of the PRO console itself but rather the software and QA on the part of the developers primarily. However, even in games that are labeled as problematic for PSSR (i.e. Black Ops 6 and Jedi Survivor), the good outweigh the bad and the results are still noticeably improved over the base PS5 (disclaimer: I'm playing Jedi Survivor in quality mode which looks much better than the performance mode and still feels pretty good to play).

All in all, today I would give the PS5 PRO a solid 8.5/10. It simply invites me to play and enjoy more games and delivers a superior experience to any other console out there. The best part, this is the WORST that the PRO will ever be as it will continually improve over time. PSSR by definition will only improve and evolve over time, perf improvements will get better as developers get more familiar with the hardware, and the brand new games over the next few years will better showcase what the PS5 PRO can do to improve the core PS5 experience. It's still early days but the future is looking brighter as we go. Now please give me solid patches for Helldivers 2, FFXVI, and Black Myth Wukong and I will be fully satisfied 🤞

I’m really happy with it, but it’s early doors, so there’s nothing to get too carried away with just yet.

This early into the console’s life it’s difficult to get too excited because most of us have likely already played and enjoyed the current crop of patched games, but it’ll be next year when we’ll see it shine properly, with new games, more experienced devs, and improved PSSR.

Death Stranding 2 has the potential to be a stunner, considering it’s uses the Decima engine that already looks awesome on the Pro.

I listed sp2 before you so you already knew my feelings about that game, don't act like i tried to move the goalpost, you can go through my post history and i never had a great appreciation for the graphic of that game.
I know it's an undefined list of games, we all have different opinions on how great/nextgen some game looks.
I'm gonna value a great pro patch on gta6 orders of magnitude more than i value a great pro patch in sp2 because i find one game way more impressive and nextgen than the other, take it as you want.
At least it's cool to know for the future that sony first parties get the best pro patches, ds2 is probably gonna be the next good test.

FYI, Best Buy got some stock of the disc drive. I just ordered to back up my Amazon order (that says Feb 2025).
It took awhile to go through but it finally did.

Have one since day 1 and I’m not impressed to not say disappointed. I know PSSR will get better and the situation will evolve but I certainly don’t recommend the purchase right now.

It's fine. About what I expected which is still a bit underwhelming and more in line with what I thought the PS5 should have been at launch. PSSR seems to have a lot of kinks that need to be worked out.

It also doesn't help I got myself a new 49" OLED monitor for my PC, so the PS5 has been on the backburner since that came in.

At first I wasn't sure because you really have to have a side by side comparison to know. Yesterday though was probably the first time I really realized how much I like it. I've been playing Dying Light 2 and it looks incredible. Well I went to continue my game last night and there was an update that needed to download so I let it download\install and started up the game. As soon as I started I knew something was wrong the game looked like shit compared to what I remembered. Went into my settings and sure enough the video was changed from balanced to performance.

If you were to ask me if I would know the difference in a scenario like the one above I probably would have said no.

Ok so I decided to do something for the sake of science!

I originally had the Delta fan and it was definitely in my opinion anyway fairly loud. Not obnoxiously loud or even super loud but significantly more than my original PS5 launch model. It wasn't so much the fan being loud but the sort of pitched whine that it did. Search 350hz sound on Google and it sounded like that and it was just enough to be annoying to try this. I went to AliExpress and purchased a FOXCONN fan because many people claimed that it is the quieter of the two fans. While I do believe this is somewhat subjective as to what people perceive as "silent" consoles or what have you, I did have what I would definitely have called a "silent" launch PS5 while others claimed theirs were loud. No coil whine either on that unit. Speaking of coil whine, this console does have a little bit absolutely tolerable coil whine that I only hear if close to the console which I am not. I sit about 4-5 feet away from it.

On to the fan comparison. I installed the FOXCONN fan and for me at least I can definitely say this fan is the "quieter" of the two fans. This is moreso with the almost total absense of that sound I described earlier and it is much more the whoosh of air that I only hear this time. Still it is louder than the launch PS5 but much more acceptable. I'll repost this in the noise and coil whine thread as well.

I personally see this as a huge let down considering how much more time I spend on 3rd vs 1st.

A good majority of people 100% Sonys 1st party games. To spend that amount just to replay these games & then return to a lackluster 3rd party...
I'd say it's only worth it if you're a hardcore gamer & haven't played most of their 1st party.
this i have some 1st party stuff that i want too get back in too but 3rd party has more fun stuff like sw outlaws aw2 and others but right now this stuff looks like shit with pssr.

Been playing FF7 Rebirth on the Pro and it’s been transformative. Space Marine 2 next up and it looks even sharper than I remember it looking on performance mode on base PS5.

Meanwhile disappointed with the pixelation and weird shimmer issues in GT7s PSSR RT mode. GT7 being one of my most played game on base PS5, little disappointed with Pro patch. And I’m still waiting on Silent Hill 2 to get a proper enhanced Pro patch, until then my Silent Hill 2 copy will not be unboxed.
