The PS3 to include Ageia's physics chip

zaa?

Is this like the Physics Processing Unit that everyone was jizzing over months ago, or am I mistaken?

e: rest of post was stupid

umm, it won't contain the chip, it will contain the driver/software for it (I think). That is according to this article as well as the interview w/ epic stating that cell is ideal for running the physics codec

The article says it will include the actual chip.

But it won't. They probably misunderstood. You can do physics on the GPU.
Cpu.

I figured it's probably a mistake but this is a fairly big site and they spell it out in no uncertain terms that:
Sony adopts Ageia's physics chip for PS3
And they make alot of conclusions based on that fact. Never known this site not to do their homework.

Well, if you want to sacrifice graphics perhaps..

Cell would make far more sense. And we keep hearing suggestions about how like a Physx chip it is for physics ;)

I don't see any where in Tom's hardware article saying the system would have the chip at all they only mention the chip as introduction to who Ageia is. Ageia is trying to sell the idea of having dedicated hardware for physics in general but in order to widen their market they are marketing their SDK on other platform such that if you ever choose to use hardware acceleration in the future the software won't really have to change.

It says it in the title of the article.

Edit:What he said.

This won't jack up the price of the PS3 will it?

If it includes the chip, its slated to launch around $300 - $400 for the PC, so yea if they have it in the PS3 it will jack up the price.

<sarcasm> Yeah, they're going to put in the PhysX ASIC, which will likely get it's ass handed to it in physics simulations by CELL, just for shits and giggles and to inflate the PS3 price. </sarcasm>

Now, seriously, can we get this thread deleted before the idiots who read the shit written by the idiots at Tom's see this and believe it? Maybe Tom needs to learn the difference between a SDK and an ASIC?

Edit to add sarcasm tags since appearently I'm not as venomous as I once was.

It's not in there; However, Ageia has said that Cell's design is very similar to their own chip and that it fits well with the SDK.
