We'll never know for whom the Taco Bell tolls: Could Hakeem Olajuwon really have beaten Shaquille O'Neal this time without the help of Clyde Drexler, Robert Horry, Kenny Smith and Sam Cassell?

Literally hours before the Taco Bell One-On-One Championship scheduled for tonight, the Shaq vs. Hakeem matchup for a cool million was canceled Friday after Olajuwon came down with a bad back. It seemed early for that sort of ailment, considering Hakeem doesn't normally start carrying the Rockets until June.

Taco Bell thought about trying to find a last minute replacement and everybody from Alonzo to a tag-team of Mugsy and Spud Webb were considered but they ended up just cancelling the event and refunding the estimated million dollars in buys. Shaq was disappointed.

"I have been looking forward to this one-on-one challenge against Shaq because it gave us a chance to show the fans our individual skills, in a way they haven't seen before," Olajuwon said in a statement released by the promoters.

O'Neal, who boarded Donald J. Trump's personal jet late Friday, bound for Orlando, Fla., said he was disappointed. Asked if Olajuwon's injury was legitimate, he said, "I don't know."

Trump had an opinion, though.

"There's a rumor out there that the NBA had something to do with it. But it's just a rumor," he said.

I remember hearing this as a kid but I always chalked it up to some mythical rumor like Michael Jordan being a hidden and playable character in NBA Jam.

I just Google'd it today to see if anyone else experienced this crazy rumor from the 90's and to my surprise it wasn't a rumor, it actually almost happened.
