So apparently,

Emily Rogers said:
@mvgn @PlayerEssence Eh, the NX's reveal (which is coming very soon) will be my rebuttal, lol.

Ahhhhhhh how soon is very soon? Very soon is arbitrary, it could still mean we wait until Nintendo's financial briefing on October 27th.

TREEHOUSE OF HORROR VI (Aka The Simpsons Halloween Special 6)

No useless intros this time around, so lets get to it.

9458.jpg

ATTACK OF THE 50FT EYESORES
29879.jpg

It has been talked about quite a bit, but I honestly like all the sign gags and business name gags in the series. Even with the new era, there's still a sign or two to make me laugh.

109458.jpg

LardLad is secret best Kaiju.

146162.gif

I think the best episodes of the series are ones that have jokes for literally every member watching. From simple concept gags like the above...

157339.jpg

To more sophisticated jabs as shown above...

175357.jpg

To drug humor...

193209.jpg

To straight up dark humor. (Of course, you have to be funny as well, but that goes without saying.) I also love that whole back and forth with Bart acting as the Devil/Angel for the Devil.

268117.jpg

Even in the Halloween specials, F.O.E there's time for character moments.

353035.gif

You hear Simpsons music in the weirdest places. This was actually the BGM of a Simpsons flash game I played long ago. (It was about killing Flanders IIRC?)

NIGHTMARE ON EVERGREEN TERRANCE
418300.jpg

I get that the opening dream is supposed to feel like a traditional Saturday morning cartoon, but the particular style of character movement/backgrounds feels familiar to me. I just can't place where I've seen it. I guess it's supposed to be a hodgepodge?

424473.gif

It's only in this re-watching do I realize we lost a wondrous talent in Maricia Wallace. Even in a set of lines like these, you feel the apathy of someone who once had hopes and dreams but has lost them in the drudgery of the 9-5 workday. R.I.P Edna.

506889.gif

It's time to reveal my secret. I'm the mastermind behind all NX leakers. My dad, Shigeru Miyamoto, said it was OK to reveal to you all the news you want to hear. The NX will release on Smarch 13th, 2017.

597312.jpg

Willie is SO FUCKING GOOD as the Freddie expy. The one liners, the timing, the violence, perfection.

747963.jpg

HOMER^3
874456.jpg

Do I even need to say anything about this short? It's probably one of the most iconic THOH shorts of all time. For fucks sake, I saw it advertised as a double billing with some other CGI feature in IMAX back when it was made. IMAX!

895343.jpg

However I will say that this is a very underrated line.

956071.gif

964746.jpg
967749.gif

I'm not sure how many, or which CGI moments have been posted in the thread, so I'm just posting a smattering.

1108556.gif

I like how not even the nerdiest one among them has seen Tron.

1184132.gif
1249197.gif

The CGI probably seems dated as all hell now, but I do kind of wish that the squash n' stretch style was more used in CG movies today.

Eyesores: 7/10
Nightmare: 10/10
Homer Cubed: 9/10

Ah Homer Cubed, such a brilliant episode no matter how many times I rewatch it. Nightmare is fantastic as well, the Smarch liine cracks me up every time.
Speaking of Nightmare - anyone that watched it in the UK when it was first aired in the 90's on Sky One will have seen a horribly butchered version of it - there are a couple of parts where Willie first dies that are cut entirely - mainly when Willie is burning to death, and then tries to get sand from the sand bucket. Its just completely cut so you only see the very beginning bit of the furnace blowing up to Willie then turning to dust and sweeping himself up in the classroom.

Likewise, in the one THOH that featured Willie getting killed 3 times via an axe to the back, Sky One cut most of those scenes as well - most obvious in the Homer time travel part - the whole bit with Willie getting killed by Maggie is cut short, so the scene only shows Willie talking to Homer, then cutting back to prehistoric times. Also, his last death is also cut, so I never got to see the whole "I'm so bad at this" line after Skinner kills him until the DVD release many years later. In short, Sky sucks for chopping up Simpsons...

I'm fairly certain I did see those scenes on TV, can't say if it was on Sky One though, probably on later reruns they put them back in.

Not surprised they'd be cut, wasn't it on 6PM or 7PM during those times?

6:30pm for new episodes back in the 90's (damn I feel old now!). I want to say BBC2 might have been better at not cutting scenes out? Channel 4 is terrible at chopping bits out of episodes (though I rarely ever watch Simpsons on TV these days, mainly just through my computer.
But I think Family Guy wins in terms of being censored - Sky once tried to air it at around 4pm on weekdays, no joke they had to cut so much of an episode out I wonder why they even bothered.

Rewatching Bart's Comet and man it's such and underrated episode. The satire of science skeptics and overbelievers is so on point, even to this day.

Hooray for science WOO!

Yeah, the episode is brilliant, the bits with Skinner at the beginning are worth it alone.

Skinner plays off of so many characters so effectively... Bart, his mother, Edna... it's just a shame they only trot him out these days as a de facto sidekick with Superintendent Chalmers.

I find it rather surprising that we've lacked a decent Lisa-Skinner episode all these years. They have the occasional memorable scene within an episode but that's about it.

Yeah, I miss the good old days of Skinner, he was great back when he was with Edna, or just in the early seasons in general. Heck, the school setting in general just feels pointless since they'll probably never be able to replace Edna as a teacher for Bart.

As for characters that seem strangely absent from getting their own focused episode - the one I'm still waiting for is a proper Dr Hibbert episode, its been 28 odd years now and from my memory he's just had a load of decent scenes, and a couple of Halloween stories where he features somewhat prominently. Its amazing that so many other lesser characters have had an episode before him.

I Wanna Be The Guy

U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
The TOH episodes were always some of my favourites of the whole show, and the anticipation for the new TOH every year was so exciting when I was a kid.

when did Simpsons OT become so obsessed with NX

also speaking of Dr. Hibbert, did they ever actually focus on his relationship with Bleeding Gums Murphy? All I know is they made an off-hand comment on the ep of Gums' death, but nothing much.

It just moved here because too many people were whining about Simpsons memes in NX threads.

I will never forget the day that nintendo fanboys collectively lost their mind and posted non stop simpsons screencaps with dialogue replaced to reflect the NX situation

the madness starts here and continues until the thread is locked

Of course I always did this stuff in every NX thread before the above quote, it just only happened to be that once everyone joined in on the fun that now there are NX threads that ask for no Simpsons memes. lol

They were a good way to pass the time seeing as especially during September all we had was everything that could happen except an NX announcement: 3DS Nintendo Direct, Super Mario Run announced, TGS, Famicom Classic Mini announced.

Now it is especially quiet this month that no one cares for rumours because there's nothing new and everyone is waiting for October 27th in the hopes Kimishima reveals something about NX during the financial briefing.

Maybe we can get a Simpsons thread without butchered dialogue.

TREEHOUSE OF HORROR VII (Aka The Simpsons Halloween Special 7)

9008.jpg

So I've been getting dozens of questions about these reviews from Gaffers like you. Let's answer some of these questions:

Prof. Lawrence Peirce said:
"I think these intros get shorter every year"

That's not a question, professor.

THE THING AND I
28678.jpg

We're teetering dangerously close to being past the unanimously loved THOH's. So as such, I may not be as positive as I once was for all segments.

83499.jpg

One thing I haven't mentioned (Because there's far, far, FAR too many to list) is the spooky credits. Even in a shit THOH, it was always fun seeing what names they came up with.

139889.jpg

Surprised that FOX Corp. hasn't put out a fake autobiography yet. There's those guide to life books, but that's not what I'm talking about. Come on, if Kermit and Archer can put out autobiographies and be somewhat successful, why can't Homie?

235100.jpg

There are still some funny lines and gags (The ming vase misderect, the boys/crazy town line from Hibbert), but this feels more like they tried to build up a moody plot and stumbled a bit.

381647.gif

I do like this shot, though.

THE GENESIS TUB
451066.jpg

SOUTH PARK DID IT! SOUTH PARK DID IT!

now that I got that out of the way...

462511.jpg

While the above line is kind of funny, it seems out of character for Lisa, doesn't it? I mean, yeah, these are THOH's where the characters' traits are stretched for comedic purposes. But it still seems weird that she wants to take credit for being a killjoy at this point.

627926.gif

It also seems like with some of these plots that they're focusing more and more on the concepts themselves, rather then lampooning them. This can be a double-edged sword, I feel. On the one hand, it allows for the audience to see for themselves how a topic is presented and make their own jokes, but on the other hand, it looses the snappy tone demonstrated from the earlier THOH's, as you stop to let the audience catch up.

728326.jpg

I do like this joke, though. Treating meeting your God like a press conference.

774423.jpg

The fact that the smart geek made that for the science fair gave me a laugh.

CITIZEN KANG
806688.jpg

Lets cut the bullshit and get to the main event. The reason why people remember this THOH fondly. With it being an election year, you'll see lines quoted from this segment posted everywhere, so I'll just skim through it.

834449.gif

This is how visual gags should be. Not drawn out, but given enough room to breath,

889821.jpg

Homer's disinterest in politics here is refreshing. Down the line, the writers anticipate throwing him into political statements every election year with a short or intro. But here he just ambivalent.

999180.jpg
1002317.jpg

And now being older, I actually have some frame of reference for these political jokes. (But being Canadian, that means I understand 1/4th of what's going on instead of an 1/8th)

1221736.jpg

Heck, there's political jokes that if you don't have any knowledge of US elections, you can still laugh at...

1275039.jpg

As well as extremely US-Centric political jabs.

Ah, back when the show was seen as edgy enough to require censorship. Good times, gooood times.

THE HOMEGA MAN
69952.jpg

After the middling quality (Kang excluded) previous THOH, this one comes in with a more stable bit of comedy. It isn't of the classic era, but of the arguable cool-off point of the series.

95811.jpg

I always did find Quimby to be hilarious as a character. But that's just it, he's a character. It's not as hilarious when you'd expect this to be said by an person running for US presidency

.
149064.gif

Love this joke, and the guy's work though. (Even if I disagree with his abhorrence to letting his work be seen by the newer internet generation.)

211961.gif

Why do I get the sneaking suspicion that this is the writers doing some wish fulfillment?

266715.gif

I forgot about this line on rewatch. Gave me a chuckle. It only works with the visuals, though.

443826.jpg

I chuckled at the above line, as well as Marge of all people being racist.

FLY VS FLY
494743.jpg

So how do the residents of 42 Evergreen Terrance spoof one of the most well known sci-fi plots of all time? Alright, IMO. Again, the cracks are beginning to show, but they aren't gaping holes as they would be later on.

531897.gif

"What is my purpose?"
"You scrub.."
"...Oh god..."
"Yeah, welcome to the club."

556104.gif

You lose a lot using just pictures. The delivery sells the line, I feel. But since nobody's going to categorically upload every line of dialogue to Youtube for 600 episodes, you have to make due with what you have.

614780.jpg

With some THOH's, you have to take what you can get with the jokes. In earlier installments, this line wouldn't get a mention. But here, even simple jokes or classic irony is noteworthy. It's not as bad as later segments where you have to focus on the bad in order to keep your attention.

865714.gif

Case in point.

EASY-BAKE COVEN
924456.jpg

I always found this segment boring as a youngster. But on a re-watch? It's not half bad.

938119.jpg

While I don't think there's truly such a thing as "Timeless Humor", I think that the concept of laughing at the stupid things we did in our past is pretty universal. It's why I think I like this segment more now.

1009240.gif
1045009.jpg

Same goes with the idea of making yourself look better by saying you thought of an idea first, or the juxtaposition of two extremes. These types of jokes can be seen as bland though, so I do see why I had criticisms before.

1133915.jpg

I don't think I got my sense of humor entirely from the show, but I can see more and more how it helped shape and mold it. This, for example would absolutely be a joke I'd come up with.

1163111.jpg

Yeah, I'm surprised. I actually like the episode a lot. I think it was me being raised half-catholic and that side disproving of mockery that made me think twice about liking the segment. The ending is a tinge underwhelming, though.

"Ah, what're you going to do?"

HELL TOUPEE
40790.jpg

Still in the debatable grey area of season quality, A lot of these THOH's are defined by one or two segments. The 3rd of them usually just rots away, only being recounted during marathons like these.

63896.jpg

Satire was one of the show's greatest strengths. That, combined with not lingering on any one joke for far too long. A great example is above, shown only for maybe 3 seconds max. Bob's Burgers used that a few times as well, to even shorter lengths of time. (The one that comes to mind is recalling the bizarre things the wacko aunt did and having them be 5 frame cutaways)

91006.jpg

"Show, don't tell" is one of the first rules of screenwriting you learn. A good example of that would be here. What would've been funnier, you making your own reason why it would be self defense, or the show outright telling you?

And I think I just thought more deeply about this line than any other lifeform in the history of multiverse.

134216.jpg

With the amount and diversity of programs that make their roost now on Fox, it's almost hard to remember a time where you'd think these were real. (As well as a time where the show openly mocked it's host, instead of willingly giving in and making an American Idol crossover after having Simon Cowell as a VA guest previously.) The followup quip from Homer about sweeps week is LOL worthy as well.

518016.jpg
521970.jpg

Really, the best I can say is that the segment is inoffensive at worst. The beginning and end are great, while the middle just seems to drag, IMO.

THE TERROR OF TINY TOON
532698.jpg

I&S episodes are my favorites. Remember when I talked about how all geeks were welcome back in the review of THOH 4? They really showed that in the I&S episodes. Filled with small references that only an animation geek would get, and sprinkled with a dash of meta, this show-within-a-show-within-a-show were always welcome trips into madness.

581079.jpg

I've noticed while doing these that they seem to go back and forth on what the brown underside of Homer's mouth actually is. Sometimes it's a beard, sometimes it isn't.

696978.gif

A small regret is that they didn't go full Saturday morning with the animation like in Nightnare on Evergreen Terrance. Gags like this are all we have.

774122.gif

My only experience with Regis and Kathy Lee is through this. Were they always this... perky? (The pre-soup bits, I mean.)

STARSHIP POOPERS
868016.jpg

With the THOH's reviewed so far, they've always had a sense of timelessness, even when spoofing more modern material. This is the first THOH that feels really dated. Still funny in bits, don't get me wrong, but when the last 3rd of the segment is a parody of a show that's only talked about these days as a reference and nothing more... It's kind of hard for it not to feel like a relic in the modern day.

907355.gif

The plot doesn't feel all that great either. Maggie's revealed to be Marge and Kodos's lovechild and then they fight. There's still a few good jokes, but on the whole, it feels like that they had the idea to parody Springer and then worked backwards.

952617.jpg
1021019.jpg

But like I said, it's still funny. It just didn't seem like the funniest jokes made were dependent on the material of the show. Like, it could've been any other reason why they come down, and the jokes would still work. The greatest THOH jokes all seem to be married to the concept at hand and are joined at the hip.

1129878.jpg

Like this joke that went over my head as a kid. It's great, but it feels like it could've been in any plot involving Rigel 7 or the aliens. I don't know, I hope I'm making some sense.

Live, from the fabulous Simpsons community thread located in scenic Neo Gaming Age Forums, it's the...

TREEHOUSE OF HORROR X (Aka The Simpsons Halloween special 10) review!

21160.jpg

Alright folks, we got a helluva night tonight. DrinkyCrow comes back again to promote his new book: "Nintendopes: Or, the art of trolling fanboys", we got Lionel Ritchie giving us an advance review of God's Not Dead 3: Back to the Hood, the comedic stylings of that one guy who wanted to inject OOT3D into his veins, and our musical guest tonight is CRAZY BUTTOCKS ON A TRAIN!

But first, a review of some King of the Hill special or something.

(Really though, I do love how self aware this opening bit is. As well as the references to past THOH's in the costumes.)

I KNOW WHAT YOU DIDDILY-IDDLY-DID
67560.jpg

Around this time in the show's life, the main series plots had started to become more stale. Futurama, Family Guy, South Park and King of The Hill were all on by this point, so the show couldn't really rest on it's laurels anymore. Does this staleness spill over into the THOH's? Well... sorta.

79560.gif
82760.jpg

Homer is starting to become more of a silhouette of his personality in the main series, but since these segments are supposed to be exaggerated anyhow, it's not as noticeable. Apart from this scene, however.

126160.jpg

And just because a character is becoming more cut-out-like, doesn't mean they can't have a funny line here or there.

269960.jpg
275960.jpg

Moe has always been a favorite character in the show. I mean, before he became so miserable that 90% of his screen-time were jokes about offing himself.

322960.gif
327760.gif

Genre awareness is always appreciated.

DESPERATELY XEEKING XENA
418560.jpg

Lisa made a comment earlier about what Aliens have to do with Halloween, but I think this would've been a more appropriate time. While still related to it tangentially, (Costumes) the segment is just the first nibble in what would eventually become a staple of later THOH's: Segments justified by being somewhat Halloween related.

446760.jpg
450560.jpg

But whatever, this is a comedy show after all. If something is funny, it gets a pass in my book, and this one is. (Varies depending on how much camp you can take.)

491960.gif

It also spawned one of the most fertile sources for the comics to use, so I guess it has that going for it. (Has anyone read them lately, BTW? I want to know if they're good. Last I read was... 200 I think?)

567360.jpg

As well as one of the more famous post-classic lines of all time.

665160.jpg
750960.jpg

Even some okay nerdy jabs as well.

LIFE'S A GLITCH, THEN YOU DIE
830760.jpg

I... don't even remember this one, to be honest. I guess a Y2K segment should've been expected, what with how they did a 2012 apocalypse segment later on.

917160.gif
936760.gif

It's your standard "Electronics gone mad" plot, with some funny bits, of absurdity...

959360.jpg

...along with some absolute groaners that scream of old men yelling at clouds.

1035760.jpg
1039960.jpg

We also get a sneak preview of what would become a trapping of modern seasons, overdoing a joke.

I love how quick and nonchalant she acts about the whole thing.

I love the Amytville Horror Episode from the first Halloween Special and was utterly disappointed when the real movie didnt ended in similar vain (House folding itself together) :(

Yeah, the Xena part was my favourite bit as well, its got a few on point jokes and lines here and there that I still chuckle at. The diddly bit is a favourite of mine as well, I just like the Homer/Flanders interaction that they do. But its clear from these recaps that the series has started to go down hill in terms of quality (not badly in my opinion, I still often enjoy quite a few seasons that many people hate).
Which season did they parody The Dead Zone? As I loved that part of the Halloween show, though I remember the other two parts of that THOH ep being fairly weak.

The Munsters has always seemed like one of those C-Teir shows that pop up to capitalize on a trend. The trend in this case being The Adams Family. It really hasn't had the best grip on the public consciousness, IMO. Whereas even a dad-gummed millennial like me has fond memories of the 90's live-action series (Which nobody even remembers, it seems).

G-G-GHOST D-D-DAD
54596.jpg

Must resist urge to make Bill Cosby joke...

79413.jpg

Springfield and gender progressiveness has always seemed to be a mixed bag. On the one hand, you have moments where the show seems supportive of the LGBT community (Homer's assistant from back in... Season 2 IIRC? The whole message of Homer's Phobia) while on the other hand, you have times where the movement is seen as joke-ish and sitcom-y. (Three Gays And A Condo, Certain lines and moments in There's Something About Marrying).

But since the joke immediately came after a joke about newspaper strip character lust, the line probably wasn't thought about as much as I just did.

139264.jpg

I think I'm gonna start saying this from now on. It's not Zombie-level yet, It's still good, IT'S STILL GOOD.

266683.gif

And heck, even if it was one of the living-impaired, it can still produce a funny bit with the right delivery. (Or pace, as in the case of dying again due to Broccoli.)

331331.jpg

Was the "Justice for most" sign part of a previous episode? I swear it was.

Just putting this here for future reference when I get to the Dexter parody THOH segment.

SCARY TALES CAN COME TRUE
397439.jpg

Now mind you, just because something is can be scary when done by others, doesn't mean it automatically carries the same level of quality when The Simpson's does it. Grimm's stories are fucked up, but most of the segment is just light hearted jabs at the tales.

472097.gif

You could see the joke coming a mile away, but it still gets a smirk from me due to it's pace.

563855.gif

I guess for me, that's the main problem of the segment: It offers nothing new. Even with a tired premise like Zombies or Haunted Houses or Vampires, the show could offer up some new joke or take on the material. With this though? Fairy Tale parodies are literally Baby's First Satire. The concept is as dead as Goldilocks up there.

647063.gif

Probably the best gag in the segment (Either that or the following).

692525.jpg

The twist is alright, just like the segment. Not great, but not horrible either.

NIGHT OF THE DOLPHIN
777610.jpg

Every frame had the writers credit attached, so sorry if this looks out of place with the others.

926509.jpg

This is such a creative segment with some funny lines. It's no wonder that this was in The Simpsons Game (On a tangential note, I feel we really need a sequel to that game)

1029946.jpg

...You probably couldn't do this joke today, though.

Greatest motivational speech ever. Braveheart, eat your... something out.

1244952.gif

I love how not even Jebidiah was spared. (But since he was a pirate, it's probably more apropos.)

1298964.jpg

From here on out, the Kang and Kodos cameos get smaller and smaller. Where as before they took up multiple minutes, they'll eventually drop down to seconds, or even frames of screen time.

I understand that they don't want to support a dead format, but I do wish that the Season sets were still made. They had great features like the multi-language episode bonuses. This episode for instance was so much more re-watchable when you could see how jokes were handled in Japanese for instance. (There used to be a blog I followed that was a haven for the Japanese fandom. They did meetups, tracked the voice actors in other works, complained when the movie had a different cast, and more. Anyone know what I'm talking about?)

HEX AND THE CITY
70237.jpg

It seems that this was a popular episode. The Leprechaun character introduced makes multiple cameos later on, even in the likes of the most recent THOH.

103604.jpg

Great line, but I also wanted to point out that this is one of the few THOH's that don't have comedic credits. Did they just get sick of them by this point?

133425.jpg

Honestly, it sometimes feels like I'm too soft with these segments. We're well past the classic era, so lines like this shouldn't make me laugh, and the episodes should be treated with more scrutiny. But perhaps I've just gotten bored with the hard limits put on what's constituted as classic, or perhaps I'm just white knighting the show to be contradictory, Or maybe it's just that I try and do these when I'm in a good mood.

277527.jpg

Regardless of era though, I do think this is a funny line.

317567.jpg

The closest we'll ever get to a legitimate Life In Hell adaptation.

Katie Couric is secret best monster girl.

HOUSE OF WHACKS
470845.jpg

The more I think of it, the inclusion of sci-fi themes does seem a tinge odd for a Halloween show in general, but since it was established as a spoofable genre from the first installment, it at least fits better then a Mr and Ms Smith or a Dr Seuss parody.

524232.gif

While the over-reliance on guest stars and references can get grating (especially later on), if they can sneak in a slam or two, it's better then just saying their name and profession while in awe of the celebrity at hand.

710460.gif

I've said it before and I'll say it again. A Simpsons episode lives and dies by it's pace. Even for a gag that's as drawn out and tired as blatantly explaining an idea that's against your best interests, if it ends with a quick topper, it can make all the difference.

846429.jpg

The episode's also worth it to hear Brosman in action. He does a great performance, and really makes the episode more memorable in my eyes.

927343.gif

Even in these segments, you can really tell that Patty and Selma get shit on quite a bit. Really, if someone was new to the series, you could show them the THOH's, and they'd learn a ton about the show in general,

WIZ KIDS
931097.jpg

Was Philosophers Stone out in theaters by this point? I know the books themselves were massive from the get-go, but the movies are what shot the franchise into the stratosphere.

963629.gif

With the revelation of more magical schools outside of Europe (As an aside, really Joanna? The Japanese school is literally called Magic Place?) I do kind of hope that we see more foreign attitudes to magic, even within the context of bullying. I mean, since Fantastic Beasts is going to be 5 movies long, they'll have to pad it out with the newly revealed material, right?

1029529.gif
1036202.gif

There's been some debate over if movie parodies are a good fit for THOH's. For me, I echo what I said with Xena. If something is funny, I'll let it slide. However, Potter has become a modern classic, and is decently Halloween related, so it's got a lot of good material to make fun of.

1077702.jpg
1087920.jpg

But even with amusing lines like these, it can't save the fact that it really only scratches the surface of parody with the franchise. Like someone read a summary in their local newspaper's review section and made a parody based off of that.

1122330.jpg

The characters do feel like themselves, though. Like, even though it's exaggerated, you can still get the vibe that the writers know what makes Bart and Lisa tick. Bart's not worried about his 9th girlfriend or not wanting to disappoint Homer, and Lisa's not a mouthpiece for whatever cause the writer wants to soapbox.

1220136.gif

For whatever reason, I do like this line. I dunno, I guess I'm weird.

Death seems to hold less and less importance as the show moves on, I've found. Maude comes back more times after this, in both flashback and current ghost form, while others are used as just cameos (Edna, Marvin Monroe, Mona) or as bizarre plot lines (Lunchlady Doris becoming Lunchlady Dora under our noses, Fit Tony becoming Fat Tony, Hologram Bleeding Gums Murphy) I'm honestly surprised that they haven't somehow dug Troy McClure out from his grave for some weak gag. (Like, he comments about how you remember him from the Lincoln Log Cinematic Universe or something.)

SEND IN THE CLONES

I do remember liking this one, so I kind of wonder how it holds up.

88380.jpg

Yeah, we're starting to slide downwards into the standby of over-explaining jokes. This is the type of remark you'd make to yourself watching, maybe smirk a smidge at your own joke, and then move on. It feels like they're not confident enough in their joke, more so then it being a simple ad-lib.

228311.jpg

While Moe has been a favorite, I do have to give shout outs to Abe as my second. His stories and rants can leave a good mark on even a shitty segment of the show.

314231.jpg

While it is shit how Flanders is basically becoming more and more cut-out like, I do like this line. I'm not sure why though. (Actually, is Discover even still around anymore)

Yeardly sells this line. Otherwise, it'd be just meh, IMO.

662287.jpg

Much like future THOH's, there's still some funny lines, but it feels like there's a lingering sense of Deja Vu. They just redid the 2nd Monkey Paw wish with a few changes. It isn't... bad per say. It just reminds me that I could be watching those episodes. Perhaps even in shoddily localized Arabic.

744661.jpg
757382.gif

This feels like an underrated segment. I don't see many talk about it all that often. If it just stuck to the Zombie Cowboys, it'd be a gem in the rough. But then the time travel stuff happens, which just lessens it by a tad for me.

THE ISLAND OF DR. HIBBERT

Oh... it's this segment.

As someone of Scottish heritage, I find this highly humorous and demand you continue immediately.

1058516.jpg

Marge moments like these are exceedingly hard to come by in the show's back half. So when they pop up like this, we need to cherish them.

1142350.jpg

This is one of the few THOH's to genuinely creep me out during my first watch way back when. That's why I seemed unenthused at the beginning. It isn't because of the animal hybrids either, but Dr. Hibbert. He genuinely comes off as creepy this time around.

1295628.jpg

The KKC (Kang and Kodos Cameo) this time around just feels like they ran out of room in the script and decided to stick them in at the last minute.
