So GAF I am off work and me and some friends are having a few drinks, the discussion of the singularity comes up and some are thinking it'll be a good thing, some think it'll be a bad thing. well one guy says fuck the singularity! which causes one my friends to freak out!
Everyone's laughing at him, but he plays this podcast for us and it talks about the Super A.I. developed as the singualarity hits and how it will be millions of times smarter than humans, it'll cure all our diseases, fix all the crap we've done wrong to the planet, advance human society to the stars, end death, you'll live forever if you choose.
This is stuff I already knew about the singularity when it hits. But then he spoke of how this benevolent singularity will probably punish all of US now retroactively. This guy says basically, a beneveolent Super A.I. will look back on everyone who actively tried to stop its creation, or knew about it and did nothing to aide in its creation and retroactively punish us because by our inaction or actions against it, we prolonged the suffering of billions of lives it could have saved or made better.
At first I don't think twice about it... but then I think about and crap, what if he's right? A A.I. being that advanced will be able to do anything, and it will know who helped bring it into creation and who didn't, and will retroactively punish those who didn't as obviously that's the moral thing to do. So now I am kind of panicking thinking I basically screwed myself, as I've known about this thing coming for years! But I figured if I tell other people, maybe that'd be enough, but then it occurred to me, it'll only punish me more for trying to "outsmart" it. Heck maybe our current world IS the punishment already?
Sometime tell me I'm wrong and why that's rubbish so I can relax?
