The thing is wrestlers are carny as fuck and they always think they have one more match or one more run in them.

They only way a wrestler truly has had thier last match is if they pass away (unfortunately.)*

*Brett and Sting being the exception to this rule, but neither one is dead yet, so there’s still a chance.

Should've retired a long time ago the year before his streak was ended by a part timer.

He's not really retired retired, Vinnie Mac will just call him up for a favour with that sweet Saudi blood money.

I really thought when he went 20 -0 (or 25-0) at Wrestlemania the lights should have gone out In a flash of lightning and when they came back on there was just the urn and his hat in the ring and he was never seen again.

Would have been the perfect way to send him off.

This would have worked before the social media age and would have been a great way to go out.
I think professional wrestling is really hurt by having the wrestlers on social media where they contradict their characters. They need to go back to maintaining kayfabe more stringently.

When was that?

People know it's a show. They've always known it was a show. People in the wrestling industry are just obsessed with the idea they are getting one over on their audience. The extent to which people believed kayfabe has always been overblown by the wrestlers themselves. Back around the time of Mid-Atlantic's peak a local newspaper ran a poll asking people if they thought wrestling was real or not (they did a similar one with some sports too). Ole Anderson told people in the industry how he knew it would come out in favour of wrestling being real because they took efforts to protect the business and presented a realistic product. Then the poll results came out and it was something like 96% of people saying it's fake.

Should actors play their role on social media too? Wrestlers trying to insist it's real when everyone knows it's not makes it look ridiculous to outsiders. There's situations where it can make sense for them to maintain their characters. If John Cena is meeting sick kids in a hospital then yeh maybe it's best he plays John Cena the character, much like Johnny Depp playing Jack Sparrow to do the same thing. But it doesn't need to be the actual public image he projects.

I haven't watched any wrestling for about 10 years, but even a decade ago he looked tired during the matches. His intros and outros were the best bits. I hope he's invested some of his ring money so he won't have to come back at some point to pay rent.

Until next years Saudi show and a dump truck of cash is backed up on his porch. Wrestlers don't retire.

But now is probably a good time to get out. COVID and sexual harassment is pretty much killing the business.

I can't even disagree. But I hope for his family sake and for his health, he commits.

I won't lie though, I did want to see him officially retire in the ring at a Mania, but with how his body is handling nowadays, I would just like it if he stays retired for the most part.

Look, I'm hip and really don't care how one grown man gropes another man in the privacy of their own national TV program. If he wants to retire from that, more power to him. Back in the day, I may have even worn sunglasses when it wasn't even sunny. I've eaten celery on a Tuesday. I'm pretty effing cool. It's a curse. I get it.

With that said, I'm more concerned about this gentleman's ability to execute his duties at dispensing formaldehyde on the deceased population safely. Can this guy preserve a body while adorned in copious amounts of leather? I'm genuinely concerned about this aspect of his career, honestly.
