The 'why I like Nintendo' thread.

I like Nintendo because I like to hope one day they will make another 2D platformer this good.
Haven't played Jungle Beat, have you? I don't mean to make light of Yoshi's Island, but I think it is a better game. It's the most recent reason that I love Nintendo. Their push for the next step in gaming is another reason. DS is slow in the releases, but it allows for old and new. I believe Revolution will do the same, but hopefully without the slow releases.

I really would have liked to wait for a price drop, but even comparing it to Yoshi's Island is cause for immediate purchase.

I like Nintendo because of their style of games. Which basically give a gamer a limited set of moves, but then use then in ingenious combinations and ways, keeping the game fresh.

When they say simpler controls, thats what i imagine. If you think about most nes games, its alot like that. A game like Bionic Commando is based on one gimmick, but it was well implemented, and the level design gave you creative uses for it.

I like Nintendo becase of:

Fire Emblem (SP?)
The Legend of Zelda series
Metroid Prime series
Advance Wars
Animal Crossing
Pikmin series
GBA Player
Punchout
Duck Hunt (wish they would bring this back)
Their controllers and systems

I like Nintendo because they offer a nice alternative to gritty scifi FPS games, the same sports game every year, "blingy" car racing games, GTA clones, and RPGs with morally and sexually ambiguous characters.

...just kidding.

Really, I like Nintendo because their average quality as a games publisher is second to none and they're the only guys left making simple, addictive games as opposed to big, long, snoozefest movies that you watch more than play and have serious male inferiority complexes.

Oh, wait...

Nevermind, I need to quit drinking all this cough syrup. Just ignore this post. Thanks! :D

I like Nintendo because of the NES and the SNES - their lineup during that era was pure quality... I think Nintendo lost sight of the goal in the N64 market (lack of 3rd parties, lack of RPGs, and super blurry 3D really killed me on the system), did slightly better in the GC market, but now relies on gimmicks to sell their games. I'm a reactionary gamer, I don't believe innovation is the way forward, I think a return to tried and true (and further refined) formulas is the order of the day.

I honestly believe the games released during the N64 generation was Nintendo at their very best. Mario 64? Zelda? Starfox? W00t!

The GameCube generation, while good, isn't Nintendo at it's best. But hey, Pikmin 2 was godly (IMO). I think EAD will prove the doubters wrong with Zelda, if they haven't already with Pikmin 2 and the like.

I like Nintendo for their great adventure games. While I'm more of an arcade kinda guy,(SEGA!!!!)Nintendo's action/adventure games are always longer, deeper, and more fun and inventive than everybody else's. Plus, they occasionally come out with something new and different like Pikmin and Wario Ware too.

Their systems of the past are among my all-time favorites. While their last two systems didn't end up being nearly as good(this is due to a lack of quality third party games, and not due to the quality of Nintendo's own software), The NES and SNES days will always be among my most treasured gaming memories.

I AGREE. This is why I love Nintendo too!

Chronos: No, Pikmin 2 is better than Pikmin 1 in every conceivable way.

I like Nintendo not just because of nostalgia but they actually do make a lot of cool new stuff also, albeit not of the same OMFG mega hype level of Mario & Zelda.

Why I like Nintendo:

snesn2020game6yh.jpg

RPGers love it, Platformers love it, Puzzlers love it, PAINTERS love it. It rocks.

Snes *salute*

Because they inspire so much emotion and passion in people. People interested in any and everything they do. I'm not talking about Nintendo fans.

The GBA was smokin' awesome this gen, and the Cube was pretty good too for multiplayer with Wario Ware, Mario Kart, FZero, 4 Swords, FF:CC, Donkey Konga, and Smash Bros, and some fun 3rd party games like Red Faction 2, Soul Calibur 2, and Conflict: Desert Storm. So much fun with friends on the cube, the short loading times really make a difference.

I like Nintendo because they make truly family friendly games, meaning games that all members of the family can enjoy.

There's nothing worse than entertainment product made crappy because, "it's just for kids."

People like Henson and Nintendo understand the value of making great entertaiment that doesn't pander or exclude.

My #1 reason for why I like Nintendo is Zelda.

There is not a franchise out there that has the same atmosphere, feel, or overall lasting impression as Zelda does. It is the king of video games imo, and forever will be.

My #2 reason for why I like Nintendo is Metroid.

I could list multiple other reasons, but those are my main two.

I like Nintendo because they brought SONY into the gaming arena, which then became a domino effect because Microsoft then entered the playing field. As a result tons of great mature content 3rd party games on the Xbox and PS2. I'd also like to thank Nintendo for releasing the DS,because that thing spawned the awesome PSP. Man Nintendo kicks ass.

Thanks Nintendo ;)

That's a good point that I don't see made very often. If I had kids who were getting interested in playing videogames themselves, Nintendo hardware/software would be my first and probably only choice. I wouldn't want my kids playing a shitty stuff I remembered playing when I was younger.

I like Nintendo because their game ideas come from their head, from their imagination. Plus, they seem to execute those ideas better than anyone else.

I for one love Nintendo because those random Modojo Mario banners will certainly anger some person out there on the internet.

In fact, i like what Nintendo CREATE, not Nintendo itself. I would say that there's some Nintendo philosophy i like:
To me, making a videogame is just like music, movies or painting or whatever - a form of expression. Yes, it's an art. Those form of expressions are good when motivated by true will, creation will. Those form of expressions are bad when only motivated by money. Only for money they lack spirit, you can't dig a deeper message anymore, you can't feel the love. Nintendo is (was?) a develloper who actually made games with alot of spirit.
I feel that especially Miyamoto was develloping games like "HE would like to play it" and not "like everyone would like to". This is what i like. This is what makes gaming evolve, this is what drives creation. Today's focus group games don't have much spirit and are only good at raising money, they don't have that "something more" that a CREATION have.

Now some games i want to point out (you'll notice that i prefer older Nintendo stuff though, Mario Sunshine / Wind Wanker / Prime2 and the lastest franchises like Animal Crossing are leaving a bad taste in my mouth)

Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Metroid, Super Mario Bros 3, NES Open,
Super Mario World, F-Zero, Mario Paint, Sim City (ok, not really Nintendo's), Super Mario Karts, Zelda ALTTP, Star Fox, Super Metroid, Earthbound, Yoshi's Island,
Super Mario 64, Starfox 64, Zelda OOT, Zelda Majora's Mask, Paper Mario,
Metroid Prime, Mario Golf Toadstool Tour, Pikmin 2,

Those are Nintendo games i really liked and i hope they will continue to give us good gaming like this.

Man, my SNES has gone green :( needs a serious clean. I dunno if thats smoke or what... scum whatever it is.
its not scum or dirt or anything like that. it's some sort of bizarre degradation/breakdown of the plastic that happens quite often. it just goes yellow for some reason, and an entire piece of single plastic may change, but another piece may not. it's wierd, normal, and "untreatable".

Nintendo rocks when they're making meaty adventure games, platformers and whatnot. It's just all the latter-day fluff that depresses me a little.

Kudos to anyone who mentioned Majoras Mask. You are the smart crowd.

I am playing through that game for the first time right now. It is the only Zelda I have never finished, and it is a truly awesome game. I don't think I will ever find all the heart pieces, though.

Speaking of Nintendo, I was encouraged to see Shoe say the things he did about Nintendo in the new EGM's editorial. I fully recognize the problems they have and the missteps they have made, but I still hold them in high regard whenever video games are discussed.

Definitely. Current problems don't magically erase the multitudes of things they've done right and the good games they've been responsible for over the decades.

I like Nintendo because they make flat out awesome games, and if it weren't for Nintendo, I wouldn't be playing videogames right now. When I lost my right eye when I was four years, I couldn't even go outside...What the hell is a four year old now with one eye, supposed to do if he can't go outside and play? My parents answered that with one of the greatest gifts of my life. The Nintendo Entertainment System.

To this day, I still admire Nintendo for making the games they do, and I refuse to bash them as developers. Business and strategies aside, Nintendo rocks where it really counts.

I loved Nintendo through the SNES days. Let's face it, they had all the good shit. I've liked Nintendo ever since N64. They still come out with games that are amazing and fun to play, but there are just never enough of them any more (A few every year really).

LOZ: Ocarina of Time
Mario 64
Metroid Prime

Those are my top 3 Nintendo Games of all time.....

Here is what I loved about the last two consoles (console exclusives .... RE4 isn't out on PS2 yet so im counting it =P)

I loved the N64 era too.... Goldeneye, Shadows of the Empire, Zelda MM, Wave Race 64, SF 64, Super Smash...
GC hasn't been too shabby... MP2, SMS, SSB:M, SW: RL, WC, Zelda: WW, MK: DD, ED, RE4, RE Make, RE Zero, F-Zero GX, Pikmin 1 & 2

The NES and SNES era are why I like Nintendo. So many great games and that is where the focus was. You could really find anything you wanted.

Also, Fire Emblem, Zelda, and Metroid don't hurt at all.

I am so tempted to make a The 'why I dislike Sony' thread.

or the

The 'why I like Sony' thread

or the

The 'why I like Xbox' thread

I keed! :lol

woah i know this is kind of off topic, but how'd you lose your eye?

I like Nintendo because their games appeal to me in the same way that Disney and Miyazaki movies do. I have fun playing their games.

The DS was unveiled after the PSP. You mean the GBA.

I swear this is one of the greatest games ever made. You don't realize how much Samus can do until you start trying to do speed runs. When you get good enough you can do some insane things in the game, though I wonder if the game was intended to be played in that manner. I mean Samus is almost flying through sections later on in the game.

I remember being addicted trying to get my time down as much as possible (this applied to SuperPunchOut later on too). I actually was able to beat it in 29 minutes and my Samus was pathetic when she got to the end. :)

The strange thing is that I was never able to get 100%. :lol

I got to 99% 2x and couldn't find the last missle. :(
