Ever see the movie "War Games"? It teaches a valuable lesson:

Heh, I'm not sure if this comes from the over-dramatic Ideaman or the still-learning-English Ideaman.

I'm guessing (hoping) it's the latter. :p

Well, using "sins" obviously point to an over-the-top statement but the general idea is here though :p

And i wasn't referring to you :)

Have Miyamoto confirmed that he is working on a new IP?

Yep, several times since years actually. But specifically for Wii U, if i'm remembering right, he repeated it again in its interviews given when he was in Paris to promote the Louvre audio-guide.

Oh and he said that he was working and "small but important projects".

I'm working on several projects but I think I can not speak for all [laughs]. Some are small but important projects for Wii U. Also a new 'Pikmin', which will use high-resolution images of the console, and a Luigi's Mansion for 3DS.

I think your 3DS list is pretty thin. Only one new game? E3 2006 is about the same time after the DS launch and we got some pretty huge announcements.

I think there will be at least 2 huge games revealed with maybe another sports title or something along those lines.

The 3DS situation is quite hard to predict, really. But Iwata did said they would fix the problem around E3.

"Small but important projects for Wii U"

Perhaps he is working on the games that will come with the console or sell retail to show off the controller tech?

Random question: Assuming we can digitally download every game for Wii U, are you going to go digital when Wii U drops? Still gonna keep collecting boxes? Are you a sick freak and plan on picking up both the physical release and digital release?

Cleaning my house today, I've realized that my games are kinda taking up a whole hell of a lot of room. As much as I love collecting boxes, I think I might be going digital next gen. It's just so damn convenient. Of course, there are exceptions (Mario, Pokemon Zelda), but on the whole, it looks like digital is the way to go.

Not to mention picking up a Japanese Wii U/3DS and not having to go through Play-Asia/super expensive import shop/getting Pokemon 6 months before North America is going to be sweet.

This is one of those "it depends" things for me.

Games with good local multiplay modes like Mario Kart or fighting games, probably not unless the price difference is significantly better.

Single player games or online multiplay only games, very likely especially if the cost is less.

If they can figure out an internal hard disk it'll really help.

ugh 3DS games! I keep forgetting we have to deal with this platform too
I need to save more money for 3DS software

Oh... so much for my ban proof topic in here a day ago being called the most stupid... people are still getting that stick

If you're going to go for DD stuff, make sure you properly configure your router to VPN to a proxy server in Japan, or you're probably pretty fucked.

I mean, you know, I wouldn't assume that Nintendo would be so ignorant of technology as to not know how to keep their regions locked for networked downloads.

My buddy has a Japanese 3DS and had full access to the Japanese eShop. We're in Canada.

Of course, it's impossible to tell if the same rules will apply to full retail games. Only time will tell.

DAMN IT NINTENDO JUST TAKE MY MONEY

Not sure about that but I have a feeling this system will have great pack-in material.

I was making the Youtube rounds of Reggie interviews and he made it clear that is what they will do because he sees "value" as more important than a basic pricerange.

My guesses also.

"small but important" = showcases of the Wii U gameplay possibilities, akin to what Wii sports was to Wii

if they push this console to 349.99, I think it'll include small games packed in, and wiimote and nunchuck

But if they push it to the least possible number which is 299.99, I don't think it will come with a whole lot. Just what I thinks though.

great minds think alike

Well, he made it clear it will come with something to play right out of the box but yeah, the price could dictate the extent of what that is.

But then guys who said "people bought the Wii just for Wii sports" (and it's not totally wrong) will then declare "people bought the Wii U just for...0 games and only play to the pre-installed content" :D

Woah, been gone too long. I was lurking in Diablo III thread all day today and yesterday. The hype level matches if not surpasses us at times Haha.

So would someone be as kind as to inform me of what's been goin on? :)

that's only because yoshichan is there. Also I'm DAMN hyped for diablo 3. Might be the last game I buy before wiiU launches.

Those guys are going to declare something negative about the system regardless. You'll see it echoed around the gaming media from site to site - almost like they've received their talking points from some source on high.

Nintendo needs to look past that peanut gallery and try to get to people who are still reachable. People who haven't closed their minds entirely.

(I'd love Chase Mii, etc included. It'd be great for farting around when I don't want to get into any heavier gaming for the evening.)

hahaha, Nintendo could care less about these people and their forced and contrived criticism of their products.

If they did care, we'd have normal looking controllers and they wouldn't be Nintendo.

I personally don't care for those controller technology show pieces. At least I'd never pay for em, if they are part of the package I'll give em a brief go.

EXACTLY. For the past few generations, they've been asking the leopard to change his spots. It'd be like me walking up to a cactus and saying, "Hey cactus - stop being so spikey!" It ain't gonna happen.

I bet it would eat those folks up inside if Nintendo were successful once again, haha..

Games I don't think I can resell (i.e. cheaper download stuff) or loan/give to friends I'll just download. Other than that I'll buy packaged stuff.

I still prefer the packaged item just for ownership reasons.

I want an extremely addictive game that is pre-installed for the uPad

final fantasy my life as a king X find mii

a mario paint Wii U akin to Colors! 3D, to teach me/perfecting my drawing skills, with online functions, shared galleries, etc, with some cross-features involving other games, apps (sending your piece of art through swapnote Wii U, pimping your face in the video calls application, customizing the system interface, editing TV/games/webpages screencaps and sharing it, etc.), other hardware (seeing your pictures in relief on 3DS, etc.).

I think i could spend tons of hours on that.

Yeah I think a really fleshed out Colors! 3D style game/app would be fantastic. I know they have teased some sort of drawing thing in their initial reel last year but I really wanna see it come to fruition.

Let's hope they will even be able to re-open the minds of those folks, rejuvenate their curiosity for their products, like "hey, ok i was bored by Zelda & co, but that ! looks interesting !" :)

I spoiled myself and bought the D3 mouse Haha. Blizzard must be making fucktons of cash from merchandise alone.
I play on my ghetto miscrosoft 20 dollar mouse. I wouldn't have it any other way :P

Let's hope they will even be able to re-open the minds of those folks, rejuvenate their curiosity for their products, like "hey, ok i was bored by Zelda & co, but that ! looks interesting !" :)
changing perceptions is definitely the hardest thing facing nintendo right now imo

That's what I've been saying a lot. I don't think Nintendo is gonna get people that never wanted a Nintendo console to get the Wii U, but people that lost interest in Nintendo, and skipped the last gen or two, they can still win them over. So like you said, that guy that got bored of Zelda, or that person that didn't want to play with the Wiimote is still a potential customer.

Yep. And the great thing about these threads is that everyone seems to be on record about their expectations, even if they're scattered all over the place.

For the final thread before E3, I'll have a final predictions survey to post right after the OP.

My expectations are in check for now. Come the day before E3, they will be all over the place and I tend to expect the impossible. Happens every year and I expect it to happen this E3.

True.

I always like to see the parallels of gaming and politics:
Nintendo can still go after the swing voters. Many of the folks in gaming media seem like they are on the far opposite end of the political spectrum. Nintendo swung far with the Wii, but appear to be shuffling their way back to the center with the U; thus, they talk about trying to appeal more to the "core" audience.

Same here. The hype of the moment might have me hoping for the unlikely, but my gut suspicions/predictions are pretty reasonable.. I think? Heck, on some things I'm definitely one of the thread pessimists. But I'm usually a cheerful pessimist.

I know off-topic.

For some reason the thought just hit, with how fast mobile tech has been advancing just imagine how amazing the next generation Nintendo hand-held will be...
