I had this discussion, and think mentioned in thread before, on my podcast.

The worst thing about Nintendo's vow of silence is almost everything we've heard about the console has been negative.

This game isn't coming to the system. This engine doesn't work on the system. This developer has an issue with the system.

So they have a lot of negativity heading into e3. And let's hope they know what they were doing.

Exactly.

This actually nails it on the head.

^Look at them.

Do they seem to give a s**t if UE4 runs on the WiiU or not?
(maybe they do but that's not my point :p)

They are innovating again and there's nothing stopping them.

I would personally find it just plain boring if each generation of consoles only improved spec-wise to the last one.
How would that make it any different from PC? Exclusives?

Like many of us (I hope), I'll never forget the first time I experienced -the SD- Wii Sports.
I didn't/couldn't care how many polygons the engine was -not- pushing because that simply didn't matter.

We are being "blessed" with a new Nintendo HD console, and if that wasn't enough it also comes with an innovative controller that pretty much does everything.

Can't wait \m/

So here we go folks. The first real excuse from a developer. You were wondering how creative the excuses would be and here is your answer:

Metro: Last Light is no longer a confirmed Wii U title.

Global brand manager Mark Madsen said that while the port "could" still happen, it would be "correct" to say that it is no longer confirmed for the system.

"Not at the moment, it's not in development," Madsen told Digital Spy.

"If it does happen, it won't sim-ship with the other SKUs, but if the opportunity arises we'll take a look at it."

Madsen also denied that Metro: Last Light's appearance during Wii U's third-party showreel at Nintendo's press conference at E3 last year was too premature.

"No I don't think it was a bit too early [to show the game at E3]. As we got along in the development process, we just really wanted to focus on what we knew, focus on PS3, 360 and PC," he explained.

"The verdict is out on what we can do to maximise the code for the Wii U, and we'll see [what happens]."

Does anyone else think Nintendo should just pick up publishing rights to Metro Last Light on Wii U themselves? They want "core" games on the console, and FPSs in particular, and THQ are so strapped for cash they'd be willing to let Nintendo take it off their hands for peanuts. All Nintendo would have to do would be to throw a bit of money and technical assistance 4A's way to make sure the Wii U version (a) releases the same day as the PS360 versions and (b) looks noticeably better than them.

Next Tuesday, at this same hour, Nintendo's conference will be started already, we're almost there!

Well if its like most press conferences, maybe around now-ish after some delightful waiting music.

And people live-blogging, they are dimming the house lights, it may be about to begin.

I don't think so. I'd rather see something different considering the first Metro title wasn't too great according to some gaffers.

The first Metro title was one of those "good in theory" games. It looked nice, and the environment looked like it had potential. But then basically all you do is follow shit and it kind of sucks.

you mean like Metro: Last Light?
it would be funny, and then miyamoto can get on stage and tell us all the first party titles they WONT make.

Guys, I want to have contest during the press conference. I virtual version of BINGO. Grand prize will be money down towards a Wii U pre-order, plus 5 runner up prizes.

How it would work is that all the participants will be sent PDF files containing three randomly generated BINGO cards. The squares will be filled in with Games, People and Wii U Features that could be revealed during the press event. As they watch, players check off the items on their cards as they are revealed. When you get a whole row filled in one of the cards, you type in "Bingo!" in the thread on GAF. Alternatively, I might set up an email account to do the same for people who are banned or don't plan to have a computer in front of them.

What do you guys think? It seems like a fun way to get hyped for the event, but I would need a little help with organizing and judging the results (for the subjective calls).
Sounds extremely generous of you.

Well if this ends up being true, and UE4 is as prevalent next gen as UE3 was this gen, Nintendo is going to have a hard time setting out to do what they said they were going to do, winning over 3rd parties, etc.
Could go both ways, though.
A) Everybody rushes to UE4, leaves Wii U in the dust.
B) Due to Wii U's headstart and ability to grab more marketshare than original Wii ever had, companies will be more reluctant to shift to totally incompatible tools.

I asked earlier and didn't really get a response, but it seems I was right in thinking 360 to wii u=gamecube to wii.
Maybe the GCN->Wii small leap performed two or three times?
Gahiggidy said:
But, couldn't a few frames make a big difference?

Say, the bench mark runs at 20fps... with the tweaks, its boosted to 24fps ( four frames )... that would translate to a 20% increase in performance.
IdeaMan was saying in a ~30fps game that bump gave less than 5fps increase, so it seemed to me closer to 10%.
Gahiggidy said:
I have a hard time accepting it will be less than 50/half-way to the next Xbox. There's been so much time to improve technology since the 360 was released and, despite the bigger budget for Durango, its releasing only a year after Wii U.
Yeah, I've thought the same. But maybe that combination of higher cost, extra year, and money not spent on a touch screen combine to be enough.
Gahiggidy said:
Btw, I predict the "down ports" of Wii U games from 720/PS4 to look much, much better than the "up ports" from 360/PS3. (Provided an adequate team.budget is assigned to the Wii U version).
Agreed. It's like the difference between a Vita game that's PS3/PSV multiplatform or 3DS/PSV multiplatform.

The sad part is Nintendo will probably announce a bunch of cool IP's for Wii U at E3 and then they'll cancel them all 1 month later.

Project H.A.M.M.E.R
Raven Blade
Kameo Elements of Power (Moved to Xbox)

Well Kameo was a shame.
I do think that was a game that would have done so much better with the Nintendo audience.

The other two.. seems like Nintendo hates beat-em ups!

This is what I'm worried about. I don't think they'll cancel whatever Retro or any of their EAD studios have in development, but I worry for Monolith's game.

You can't really bet the farm on a monolith game being an international killer app. It may be a niche Japan exclusive for all we know.

Well, the first one was a bit too linear and slow-paced, and I'm hoping they improve on that for the sequel. My point was more that it could be a good business decision. Nintendo want a good number of FPSs on the console in its first year to go after the "core" audience, and Metro Last Light is one they could get the publishing rights to on the cheap, and there are already improved assets and effects from the PC version that can be used on the Wii U.

Yeah, but they ended up bringing Xenoblade out here. Disaster wasn't even that great of a game, so I don't blame them for keeping that one out of NA. If anything, we'll be seeing a bunch of niche games on their online service. I just think they need to give Monolith a chance to release a full blown out game. Here's hoping that Xenoblade did well enough to give them that chance.

Could be, but Nintendo might be bitter about this one. If they're able to do it more power to them. If Retro's title is a FPS, I'd rather have Nintendo try to pick up a different exclusive.

Monolith's Wii U game is much further into development than either Hammer or Raven Blade were, not to mention that, unlike Retro at the time, Monolith have plenty of experience of actually finishing ambitious games.

lol nintendo invites 3rd parties on stage and they all reveal which titles won't be on wiiU, and then leave. It'll be like a twilight zone E3.
Is this before or after the negative ghz chip is revealed?

That's what I'm excited for, hopefully it's not a total pain to do international DD releases.

it seem to still be getting DLC so... what is the story? Guess I'll have to wait next week seem lame to already be out for so long and still coming
