The Witcher 3 PS4 gameplay

I have an XB1 video from Gamersyde on my computer. Thats the only reason I'm comparing.

Well from the video with similar lightning between both versions I notice quite a difference in resolution (at least thats what I think it is, because there is some sort of Vaseline filter on the XB1 version), and it runs better. Maybe not "quite" better, but a bit better...I was surprised is all. I've been staying away from videos of this game and was crossing my fingers for the console versions to turn out OK. Looks like they did a good job there.

Any other difference? Foliage, AA, AF, framerate besides resolution?

Watched the Gamersyde PS4 vids. Looks game-y and rather unimpressive technically. Still nice art and good character models, but the lighting and materials in the world looks a step below Unity.

From the Hitbox stream. About like the other one I made of the same area, but a bit longer.

Jesus christ.....my jaw dropped....that is stunning

Is it your first Witcher game?

No, I got all the achievements for The Witcher 2 on the 360. Also, recently beating Bloodborne put some extra hair on my chest. :) The challenge is very fun so far.

I recommend everyone play it on Hard or Dark. Normal seems too easy from what I've seen.

Dark is where you get a limited number of lives, right? I was thinking about starting there but I'm not at all familiar with The Witcher's combat.

For everyone who has the game. What difficulty is the best to start from. Gamespot reviewer said start on hard as the game is quite easy. I dont want an easy game like ac series or annoyingly hard like bloodborne. What difficulty level to start the game on?

There is no perma death anymore, you have unlimited lives/attempts/etc. They took that out.

I would say play it on the second to hardest difficulty if this is your first Witcher game. Usually for this franchise, it starts out pretty hard at the beginning and gets easier afterwards. So don't get frustrated if you die a lot in the first few hours.

Thank you, it was bugging me that I felt like I had played an open world game that had that impressive PBR. I couldn't remember that it was Unity. It really was impressive in Unity. I thought they had taken PBR out of Witcher 3? Was that just my imagination I read that somewhere? It probably was.

PBR is in W3, but it seems to be really solid on characters and almost unnoticeable in the environment. Unity was perhaps leaning the other way, with an emphasis on PBR in the environment (plus the static lighting allowed for incredible GI techniques).

Any real performance comparisons? With all the street dates broken I'd think we would have seen something. I'd pull the trigger on PS4 version now if it performs as good as XB1.

You probably aren't going to get a real comparison in terms of visuals and performance until some time next week after Digital Foundry has all versions of the game.

Minor but that clock going up a minute per second unrealistically looks really annoying to me. Hope it can be turned off in the HUD.

Just watched the Gamersyde videos. The game looks absolutely amazing, currently one of the few games that show a generational leap in visual fidelity IMO. The density of the foliage and draw distance is really impressive. The IQ also looks surprisingly good.

5 hours into the game. Playing the X1 version. I don't know if I'm alowed to give impressions or not but all I can say is that I'm loving the game so far.

Go ahead. Many others have already done so. I'm especially interested to know how good the frame rate is on the XB1 version.

I wouldn't be surprised if the game performs better in some places on one console and vice versa. I imagine performance should be pretty similar across the two platforms. I don't know why people keep acting like the PS4 always has a framerate disadvantage compared to XBO when it's only happened in a couple games with a small difference on rare occasions.

I think people are presuming that the Xbox version will have the better frame rate because of the dynamic scaling.

It is max. settings on PC. Check this video :

You will see the same scenes like in PC vs. PS4 comparison.

If you compare the same vista shots of the GIF and at the end of the video, the draw distance of the trees is much better on the PS4 version than on the PC version at minimum settings and about comparable to the max settings. I think there are fewer trees on the mountains in the PS4 version though compared to max settings on PC.

X1 version looks and place very nicely. Haven't ran into any issues yet.

Based on 5 hours of play...no spoilers.

Visuals: I love the art style...the graphics look great, character models look great, especially the key characters. Most importantly, the world is vibrant and full of life. Really digging it.

Audio: Voice acting is top notch just like how it was for TW2. But the best part is the music...it's so fucking good. It goes so well with the whole dark fantasy setting. Haven't enjoyed music in an RPG this much since Xenoblade.

Story/Character: Can't say much since I haven't gotten into the main story yet, but I loved the beginning. I know the backstory and the lore of the Witcher universe so that helps me enjoy the game much more. Anyone who hasn't played any of the games should do themselves a favor and watch and read recaps of the characters and kingdoms.

Gameplay:
1) Combat. The Combat has much improved here from TW2. But at the same time, it's not as polished as a game like Bloodborne. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty and I can see myself improving after each fight. There are various enemies I've faced that I needed to kill using certain methods, which I found awesome.

2) Sidequests. Definitely not Dragon Age (I did enjoy DA:I but found most optional stuff quite boring). The Sidequest I just did in the first area was much better better than 99% of most open world games of recent memory. It had a unique back story to it that was actually interesting. Anyone who played TW2 knows how well CDPR handles their optional stuff...they do more than just collect this and that.

3) Exploration. Have I mentioned how beautiful this world is? Not only that, it's huge. Lots to explore and discover. I've only seen a tiny percent of what's out there. I already feel immersed.

4) Controls/Settings/Other. Controls feel nice...there was a slight learning curve but now I've got the hang of it. Settings are awesome...I've adjusted the HUD to remove some of the annoying things to let me play more "freely". I really like that these options are available. Lastly, performance has been good so far. Haven't seen any bugs or huge drops on the frame rate.

So far, I fucking love this game.

Sounds great, man. Thanks for the impressions.

Even though I know its not the case, it feels like I'm the only one not playing. People are posting impressions and streaming all over. Sigh.. two and half more days.
