The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt |OT3| Metz Some Ploughing Good Ladies In the Forest

Dead

well not really...yet
So finally finished the main story today

Got this ending:
Ciri is alive and Geralt teaches her to be a Witcher, and then they part ways, leaving Geralt and Yennefer together in retirement
Seems like the best possible end?

Only thing annoying about it is
how Ciri is magically alive after never coming back from the portal, though I suppose were to believe she succeeded and then world hopped back to the Witchers world

As incredible as the game is, the last few hours so kinda drove home the fact that the entire Wild Hunt part of the story is not as fleshed out as it should be. The
whole Frost world prophecy, and Ciri knowing she has to stop it, etc, seems like it came out of absolutely nowhere? I really dont remember it being mentioned before

mattiewheels

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Is there a point of no return in the game where you can't access both DLCs? I'm seeing that I'm hitting a point where access to places will go away once I begin...

That's arguably the best possible ending for many people. But there's another ending you can get that might technically be the most complete ending because the way to get that ending vs the one you got is one key decision of
taking her to see her father
. It's a heartbreaking ending for all of the right reasons imho. I feel like it's also probably the most definitive in ending the story with any of the characters in this cast.

It's even worse if you've read the books.
Ciri was never meant to save the world, her kid was. Also, you can never stop the White Frost, Ciri's kid was supposed to open a portal to another world and lead the people into it.

I'm not against the ending, but it's obvious CD Projekt RED took a lot of liberties in order to create some sort of happy ending.

In the books, who was
the father of Ciri's child supposed to be?

No one in specific. It was one of the main reasons her father, Emhyr, was trying to capture her. He wanted to be the father of the saviour of the world. It's kinda fucked up.

Avallac'h and Eredin (yes, King of the Wild Hunt Eredin) also conspired to capture Ciri themselves to give her to the king of the Aen Elle so their child can lead the Aen Elle back to the Witcher world to cleanse it of the Arn Seadhe and humans. That's why Geralt states that Avallac'h is not a friend upon seeing him

While trying to find a lossless version to buy of the Hearts of Stone soundtrack (which I did, finally, but it's on Tidal :C) I found the entire OST on Youtube. It's so good, mmph.

The memorable motif of the HoS theme runs throughout most of the score, and the track Breaking In perfectly matches the scenes from that quest in such a satisfying and engaging way, avoiding the generic music tropes that one would usually associate with such a quest. So thankful for CDPR's vision for the music.

Just started playing this last week. Really impressed so far - visuals and presentation are incredible and the game world is gorgeous and feels really developed and realistic. The script has been terrific so far as well, and I love how everyone's motivation feels plausible and morally things are far from black and white. I'm only about 5 hours in and I'm not entirely convinced by the combat and character movement yet, but aside from that this game is really excelling in every area. Very impressed so far, and I'm in that frame of mind at the moment where all I want to do is play more.

I love the patch. I can actually read the text without sorta squinting now.

Something is off with the clock. It says I've only played for 14 hours, but I think I've played for much longer than that. Currently Lv18, cleared probably 2/3 of the points of interests currently visible in Velen.

I read "The Last Wish" a couple months ago and after forgetting about "Sword of Destiny", I've started "Blood of Elves".

I'm really enjoying it but the thing I've noticed most in comparison to the games is how short CD Projekt seem to sell Triss. I might be being harsh but she feels like such a more developed character than she comes across as in the games.

This is actually the case with almost every character.

To be honest this can be said about most of the main characters in the game.

I not sure if I'm misunderstanding your post, but don't skip Sword of Destiny. I think it's one of the best books in the series.

I find it odd that Sword of Destiny wasn't translated until 2015. Where the hell is the sense in that? Especially since multiple important characters are introduced in that book and Blood of Elves is a direct sequel to the last story.

It was purely a mistake. I was meant to read TLW > SoD > BoE but got mixed up when I ordered.

I'm a good way in to BoE now so I'm not gonna stop to go back to SoD mid-way through this book. Is there a good time to go back and read those stories?

Mmm, I suppose so. It just feels like she's almost a different character. Besides the fact she's mirin Geralt on the regular.

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.
Is it just me or the game feels really smooth on the PS4 after patch 1.20? I think the frame rate barely drops from 30 now.
What an amazing patch.

Well, Sword of Destiny tells you how Geralt ends up with Ciri. It bridges the gap between The Last Wish and Blood of Elves. It also explores what is going on inside Geralt's head a bit more, as well as his relationship with Yen.

SoD also has all of the best short stories, in my opinion. My favourite being A Little Sacrifice. Once you've read it, you'll see that a certain character in TW3 was based quite heavily off of a character in that story.

However, if you're almost finished Blood of Elves, it would probably be jarring jumping to a different book now.

Yep, menu is very snappy too.

Well, I'll definitely read it at some point. BoE feels like such a jump in quality from TLW right now but maybe it's just because the novel structure allows Sapkowski to stretch his legs a bit.

Cause Blood of Elves was translated to go along with the first game. Blood of Elves had Triss and Shani, and Sword of Destiny was mostly Yen and Ciri who weren't in the game.

As someone who read the first two in the order they were translated I was still able to follow. Law of surprise...skip ahead...there is the surprise in training. Sucked to not have the middle stories cause they were good, but they weren't totally necessary to understand Blood of Elves.

I have no idea what mod I was using that added Dualshock4/Playstation button prompts in the game, but it appears to be broken now. :( Does anyone have any idea what mod would have done that? I thought I had them all back now, but apparently not as I'm getting Xbox prompts still.

Question for all the Witcher book readers, I've been wanting to read the original books but living in Australia they aren't really available at a reasonable price and I hate ebooks. Was thinking of ordering them from Amazon so want to know which ones I should get. I looked up a reddit post recently that advised getting these:

Time of Contempt
The Last Wish
Sword of Destiny
Blood of Elves
Baptism of Fire

Is that the relevant lot or have I missed any? Thanks.

Sword of Destiny is my favorite Witcher book.

Glad I'm not alone.

Not sure what you mean by relevant lot? They're all relevant. There's 8 books, 6 have official English translations, with the other two coming soon (2017 and 2018 probably).

The Last Wish (Short story collection #1)
Sword of Destiny (Short story collection #2)
Blood of Elves (Novel #1)
Time of Contempt (Novel #2)
Baptism of Fire (Novel #3)
The Tower of the Swallow (Novel #4)
The Lady of the Lake (Novel #5) - coming 2017

Season of Storms (technically this comes in chronologically between The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny) - maybe 2018? It's the latest book and came out in Poland in 2013.

Take a look at this site. I hear it's pretty good, although I've not tried it myself yet. I recommend the UK / Gollancz versions, but that's because I use UK English and prefer the cover art. :p The US versions use TW2 artworks and it's pretty horrible IMO.

By relevant I meant the ones that are available in english and were used for the storytelling and lore in the 3 games.

Amazon US has the cheapest price and that was my inclination in getting them from there. I prefer reading physical over digital but not too fussed about US/UK english or cover art. But will have a look, thanks.

Anyone have a problem where the health/stamina bars, etc. in the top left corner go on and off? I have all the HUD options on and that section of the screen is blank except for when I get on or off Roach or if there's a battle.

I want it to stay on. Is this a bug/glitch? Thanks.

there is no need for a mod. the game has playstation icons natively when you plugin a DS4 (without ds4 software) because i never modded my game and i had the icons. but indeed 1.21 broke the icons.

Oh that's bizarre... Wonder why an official patch would break something like that? Hope they fix it. It's not a big deal really but still..

I think the main difference between Triss in the game vs Triss in the novels, from having read them a long time ago, is likely that she's not nearly as bubbly/peppy when near Geralt and isn't one to wear super revealing clothing.

But I liked the Triss in the games more. She's a nice contrast to Yennefer. Compared to the Witcher 1 where Triss was basically written as Yennefer.

CDPR already took some liberties with the source material but for many this will end up as the head canon. Like I don't know if I would even care about further books in the series after these games because I like the job the games did.

Well, installed the patch (Xbox One) Wow, the menus are so much more responsive and snappy than before. One change I don't like is that the consumables / potions now have a bar instead of a timer, can this be changed?

1st thing that happened was failing Collect 'Em All, dammit. Ah well, fuck it I'll play through again on easy and get all the cards.

I might be remembering wrong but
I don't think it had to be specifically Ciri's kid. I think they just wanted to impregnate her because they considered Ciri to be more trouble than she was worth and that a child would be easier to manipulate.

Hearts of Stone question

[Evil's soft first touches quest]
Mirror Man just asked me to work against Olgierd with him. Am I at a fork in a road where I can refuse him and help Olgierd instead or is there no moral ambiguity in this storyline?

There are choices to be made later on, but initially you just work for O'Dimm.

OK, playing though hearts of stone before going into blood and wine. Just got through
the painted world (best thing since the jumping through dimensions in the main game) and took the rose from Iris since I think it would be better for her to move on rather than stay like that for all eternity
About how much longer till I finish this dlc?

Where should I start looking for the other set maps? I've got the first wolf school gear map and Griffin school original and parts 1 and 2 but that's about it.

Around an hour maybe? You're pretty close if I recall correctly.

So I am playing through Witcher 3 before playing the expansions on PC. One thing I am noticing that I didn't remember the last time I played (before the patch) is the draw distance for things like torches isn't very far. Is there a way to increase the draw distance so there isn't any pop in?

Lastly I am noticing a lot of items clipping through other objects. For instance hair completely passing through armor, or swords sheethes passing through armor. Is there a way to fix this?

The most fucking infuriating thing about the US versions isn't the art, it's that The Last Wish and Blood of Elves are both only sold in mass market paperback size while the rest are all the larger trade paperback format.

WHY.

And at level 41 can finally can wear the Skellige armor. So damn snugly.

front-back-29kjlv.jpg

So let me get this straight. Ive been gemming my witcher armor but not the top tier ones. If I want the absolute best setup I have to destroy it eventually by removing the gems, rebuild from base armor, upgrade again then put top tier gems?

You don't have to dismantle the armor. Instead find an armorer to remove the glyphs using the Remove Upgrade tab. The glyphs get destroyed and it frees the glyph slots.

Started playing this again last night since putting 100 plus hours on release. Forgot how good this game is and the new interface is very nice. Don't know if it's just me but the load times seem a lot better as well?

Going to start Heart of Stone tonight and then straight into Blood and Wine.

So, what's the best way to level up as quickly as possible - completing side missions? I'm about 5 hours in and perpetually feel pretty underpowered; constantly having to consume food or water, and even a group of a few enemies can cause me a lot of damage. I've just accepted from the emperor to go and find Ciri, and have been deposited in a new area, but I can't get into the city, my silver blade is damaged and I can't find a blacksmith anywhere to repair the blade! I've been putting upgrade points into fast and strong combos so far, and I'm still getting my head around combat. It's not as bad as I had expected, but I'm not totally comfortable with the way Geralt moves.

It's roughest at the beginning. I started on BB&B and the first 5 levels were a struggle. I actually thought I wouldn't have enough money to maintain repairs so I brought spare swords.

Make sure to mix up the combat with signs and bombs. Use the requisite oils. Your swords won't deteriorate as quickly. That's usually only an issue very early on.
