The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt |OT3| Metz Some Ploughing Good Ladies In the Forest

How much better is the witcher 3 on pc? I played witcher 3 + HoS on the ps4 first and was wondering if it's worth double dipping for pc (at the time of the game's release I didn't have a computer that can run it.) I have a gtx 970.

Well. You can get 60 fps at a much higher settings. Plus a myriad of mods if you so desire. Check out nexusmod to see if any catches your eyes.

Plus, a lot of PC 3rd party features are nice like gamesave manager, no fear of corrupted saves, easy to switch saves to go for different choices and endings and such. Or you can modify your input mappings so you can do a lot more things with your controller, etc.

Just my 2c.

I would say PC is the definitive version since 60 fps with better view distance is a HUGE advantage over PS4.

Also, double dipping is simply supporting the best developer in the world who deserves more of our money.

I am big Witcher fan, having played the first games, and finally picked up third game.

I am still in the prologue and haven't started the main quest, i have been just doing side-quests and exploring the map.

This game is fantastic and looks and plays like a dream on my TV at 1080p with my gtx 970 at ultra settings.

A few questions:

  • What does the red triangle that appears on the mini-map mean?
  • How do you guys find the herbs you need? The map is large (and i'm only in the prologue).
  • Is their a shortcut key to the map? I am using a controller on PC.

What does the red triangle that appears on the mini-map mean?
Red triangle shows the height difference between you and the marker you're looking at. So if it's above you the triangle is above, if it's below you the marker is below it.

Is their a shortcut key to the map? I am using a controller on PC.
Hold down the button you use to get to the inventory/map/etc and it'll go right to the open map.

So are there builds for the skill trees, or do they all work well? I have lots of points to spend and I really have not used too many.

Depends on what difficulty you're playing, I'm on Death March NG+ (did Death March for 1st playthrough too) and find you need to specialise and max mutagen boosts to keep on top of things: NG+ does feel a tad harder than vanilla playthrough though, even with all the gear.

The game is more than easy enough that builds don't matter. Besides, you can respec for 1000 gold.

I agree entirely for every difficulty below Death March...but most players will have a hard time on DM if your build doesn't synergise with your gear well IMO, since attack is the best defense in DM.

I kinda feel like B&BB is the sweet spot for those who want a bite to the game but don't really want to be constantly challenged (and given the controls I feel that's best here.) Rewarding you for being smart, but stomping you if you get too careless. No need to really specialize or be overly careful past the first 25 or so hours though.

The only enemies I find are really difficult on DM are mobs of wolves or human enemies. Fuck those. Witcher Gear provides extra protection against monsters which leads to insane situations where a human enemy armed with a club hits way harder than an Archgriffin.

I'm really struggling to play this game at the moment - I only tend to have about 60 minutes to play each night right now, and it feels like in that time I get so little done. I'm still finding it very difficult, but I'm managing to cope a bit better now as well. Tend to meditate for an hour after every battle to try and save my curative items.

Don't even get me started on the one handed maces. A human bandit armed with a one handed mace was consistently one shotting me on NG+ Death March, well if they hit me in the back anyway. For some odd reason they seem to hit even harder than the guys with warhammers or two handed axes.

Haha yeah, this was the reason I had a small panic attack when the B&W expansion started with that huge group of bandits.

What is the recommended difficulty setting? I am playing on 'normal' and it is a lot easier than Witcher 1 and 2 normal settings. I will probably bump it up to the next level.

I'd recommend hard, very hard kind of gets a bit annoying and easy and normal are too simple.

The main thing is to pick a difficulty that makes you think about each fight, cos its not much fun if played like a mindless hack n' slash.

Heart of Stone

So that title refers to
Shani right ? Cause I rejected both Triss and Yennefer more then a year ago, when I didn't even know (I think) there would be expansion with her (Shani) making an appearance but when it came to it, she friendzoned me
. Will the suffering of my Geralt ever end ?

Actually, chronologically in your game Shani probably friendzoned Geralt before he rejected Triss and Yen. Hearts of Stone is heavily implied to be set before the end of the main game considering the war with Nilfgaard is still going on and Radovid is still king.

Doing some reading it seems that in HARD mode you don't regenerate during meditation. I don't recall that being the case in Witcher 2.

that's not really an issue since your potions refill during the meditation. Maybe only at the begining when you are short on alcohol.

What do you mean your potions refill? Once you craft a potion and drink, is that Potion not gone? Are you saying i could have infinite supply of Tawny Owl?

Not healing during meditation seems the harshest at the beginning, yeah. You will scrounge for food, and then scrounge for gold to repair. But it becomes almost a non-issue with a trait or two, or investment in Swallow.

From my playthrough, I found that it added a lot more weight to the whole item management aspect, making me appreciate the loot more. Would definitely recommend it as the way to play.

Have it for the PS4. Only a few hours in. When he walks the camera seems to 'lurch'. I wouldn't call it a stutter but not the smoothest movement. If I run its fine though! Don't suppose there is a fix for this? Or am I completely mental?

It's handled very differently from Witcher 2. Once you have crafted the potion for the first time, as long as you have strong alcohol it will refill all of your vials for every alchemical ingredient you have whenever you meditate. You have a limited number of potions that you can consume before they run out though and it's mostly based on the version of the recipe that you learned.

Yeah, just like guys above said. As a result it lets you use potions all the time. This makes alchemy builds playable in WIII.

Oh boy the mutation system means I have to start hoarding ability points. Oh well, I guess I haven't really honestly bothered spending them after I maxed out the few abilities I needed in my tree.

Is there a tweak to adjust the draw distance of the grass that is right in front of Geralt? There is a clear line where it ends and starts to appear that is distracting, and I finally want to see about fixing it. :p Not talking about the foliage distance setting for far off grass, but the grass that loads in closer.

So let me get this straight, after i craft the potion i only need to mediate and it will refill (as long as i have a strong alcohol). I do not need to have any of the other ingredients?

EDIT: Does this include bombs? As bombs do not have alcohol as a base ingredient.

Yes, includes all potions, decoctions and bombs.

Awesome. I was concerned that with the large open world i would need to keep track of where certain plants are and spent significant time traveling around to collect them.

I have been picking flowers, mushrooms etc at every opportunity. I guess i can stop doing that now.

There are some rare ingredients out there and the extra money you can get selling herbs to herbalists is pretty good. Don't go out of your way for them, but I wouldn't skip over them either. Ultra rare/oddly missed ingredients are what you can spend the extra gold to buy.

Actually now that I think of it, there's some logic to where to find most herbs, but I never really paid much attention to it overall. I imagine that would help with the rarer stuff.

On this note, never skip grabbing monster parts. You can never have too many, and crafting/disassembling the extras are how you get some weird crafting ingredients.

Just finished reading chapter 4 of Time of Contempt
Thanedd coup
, that shit's intense.
I'm curious how do you compare the gamę to the books since you are reading it for the first time as I understand.
And how you rate the books themselves.

Sold The Division, turned this game on last night, and can't figure out why I ever left. Even the most mundane side content is better than a lot of main quests in other games. I have just been exploring and doing some small skirmishes and I love this game.

I feel like Ubisoft have a default template they apply to all their open world games - they all feel the same. I am 10 hours in, only just finished the prologue, and I am loving it.

I started playing Hearts of Stone this week and I'm pretty sure there was a line of dialogue during the main questline acknowledging the fact that
Radovid is dead.

HoS is weird at that, because in other quests of the game, there are NPC's that say that
Radovid still owes them money and that he ordered some guards to stand at the Academy.

So I thought 'Final Preparations' in the main game was right near the end. Had been holding it off for near a week, going after contracts and side quests. I wikied the quests tonight and I now know I still have quite a ways to go. Good Christ it's gonna take me forever to get to Blood and Wine at this rate.

What's up WitcherGAF? Now with Uncharted 4 I decided to dive back into Witcher, which I loved but never finished. I heard great things about the new update (1.20) so I really want to see that for myself. However, I seem to be having trouble downloading the patch. It's just stuck on "preparing to download". I have plenty of space and I even tried restarting the system. I Google searched and it seems like some people had a similar problem but no real solutions were provided other than keep trying.

Anybody here experience that when trying to download the update?

If you don't mind not having the Galaxy auto updates you can always download the standalone installers (it comes in a couple parts) for patch 1.21 + the standalone installer for Blood & Wine from the Extras tab of Galaxy (or from GOG.com itself).

AFAIK installing it that way means if you later want the auto updates and rollback feature you'll need to re-verify the install, but if you're having issues with the current update it's an option for you.

Each patch and DLC comes with its own standalone installer which you can download and install, which is what I previously used until I verified my install which enabled the auto updates and rollback.

I'm assuming you're playing the Witcher on PS4? The preparing to download step took ages for me, you just have to wait for it. Eventually it will start.

Hey guys, I'm a bit into the Witcher 3 at this point. I wasn't that into the Bloody Baron stuff, so I was worried that the game would fall flat, (since that questline gets a lot of praise), but I'm really enjoying the Novigrad section so far. There hasn't been very much combat in this section, so it might be that.

I've been mainlining the story, any recommended side quests or contracts? I'm not planning on doing a lot, but if there are some stand out ones that would be helpful.

A lot of enjoyment I'm getting from this game stems from having read the first two books. A lot of the callbacks are pretty awesome and unexpected. Sometimes they nearly quote the books, which is cool.

Overall, certainly better than the first two games, hopefully it can continue to hold my attention.
