They should have an IQ test when you apply for a service job.

Well, as you should know already, I'm not a big cell phone guy. But hey, the bill's still $30 a month for 300 minutes (old contract's price), so I figure I'd go down to Alltel and try to get down to a lower price with fewer minutes. I don't have a contract anymore, so hey, I figure I have a little leverage.

"Hi, I was wondering if I could get a lower rate plan, a few fewer minutes, as I'd like to cut down on costs a bit."
"Well, are you going over on minutes all the time?"
"No, I barely even go over 100 minutes a month."
"Well, all we have is the new rates, which would be cheaper. *Grabs a pamphlet, points out 500 minutes for $40*"
"That's not really cheaper. It's giving more than I need for a higher price."
"Well would you want to--"

At this point, I was tuning her out. She was trying to sell me on features, even though I told her I wanted an option less costly.

About 3 minutes later, I just shrug my shoulders in disgust and walk away.

As a sidenote, she was a new girl, and I'd applied for the position. Nice to know I was beaten by an idiot.

man... I only use like 40 minutes a month...

I'm thinking about switching to a pay as you go plan.

Edit: do your icons change depending on your mood or some shit?

Considered that, too, but as it stands, I'd pay roaming on every minute on a pay-as-you-go plan.

Should have mentioned you invented FHUTA, I bet you would have gotten a discount.

She might not be an idiot, they might just train them and tell them they have to say that crap. I've had jobs where I knew I had to sell some bullshit and trying to do so made me look rather pathetic.

You had to piss about it on AIM, and you bring it in here? I worked service, and somehow honesty worked too.

HONESTY!

Lost art, these days.

Unfortunately, she probably was being honest. There's little to no room for negotiation with cell phones. If you're on an old plan (which you are), but want a new one, your only options are what are currently available. You can't really customize your own, and there are no hidden cheaper ones that are lurking in the system.

What you probably can do is maybe sign a contract with your current plan, and get a discount on a new phone.

Stores dont exist for customers, they exist for people with money. It isnt about you, its about money. Once you figure that out your shopping experience will rock.

And when you bullshit me, the money is no longer gonig to be there. Be honest, be forthcoming, and you're going to get my repeat visits. :p

If you have no contract and you call Sprint, they'll basically make you your own plan. Go to Sprint.

Now that's the kinda thing I want to hear. Thanks, Mupepe, and hopefully they can be somewhat more accomodating.

Actually, I've had a change of heart: fuck the system, and it's ass-backwards "SELL SELL SELL FUCK CUSTOMER RETENTION" ways. Hopefully, one day it'll collapse under the weight of vertical expansion sans horizontal support. :p

Yeah, good for you. All that means is more hassle for you as you go from place to place to place trying to find "honesty." Meanwhile their horrible sales tactics rope people in all day long.

I just went and bought a big box of bourbern and cola which had six four-packs inside it. The price for a box was $75, and I look over and see that the four-packs are only $10 each.

"Could I have this for $60 since that's what it costs to buy six four-packs?"
"No, sorry."
"Well could you open the box up and scan them all seperately for me?"
"Uh... sure." *beep* "That'll be $60."
"Thanks."

Haha, I love it when you 'break' people like that. I've gotten that too. I once bought a soda with a 100 SEK bill and asked to get two 5 SEK coins back from the change so that I could play some stupid pinball machine or something. She stood there for the longest time trying to figure out how to NOT do what the cash register infront of her told her to do, I tried to help her but she insisted on doing it herself. In the end I got my two 5 SEK coins, and the soda for free, wich ofcourse she was totally unaware of. She just didn't get it.

Actually in regards to snaildogs story I bet thats gonna fuck up that guys inventory.

Suppliers generally treat single items and multipacks of single items as completely different things. So doing what was done will show a surplus of the cheaper item and a negative of the greater item.

It may make sense to joe consumer, but stores work a certain way, and your way isnt always it. I mean bravo on saving money, but its not all ok at the end of the day.

But it should be. This is obviously the store's problem, not the customer's.

I assume you're not advocating people to accept retardation just to make it easier for shops to keep track of stock.

I think im mostly saying that customers may be the center of their own universe, but inside the service industry, they days of the customer always being right are pretty much over. Ignorance and Stubborness will only get you so far, and now if you hope for any conclusion in your favor its probably best you dont act like a pompus ass and start acting like an adult.

If something seems wrong, it doesnt mean youll always get it put right. Some battles you wont win, and I am sincerely hoping some of you learn to live in the same world that the rest of us do.

Yes, thankfully I dont live in your stupid little universe.

The reason they four packs were cheaper is most likely due to them having too many of that particular sku. So to get rid of them they are cheaper. The bigger ones however apparently didnt need that.

This isnt a situation where you bark out a deal for a completely different product, you just buy the shit thats on sale and deal with it.

Yeah I see what you're saying, but I mean they buy everything in these big boxes and just rip them open for the four-packs (which they obviously sell more of by far; there aren't many people wanting 24 in one go). When their four-pack display gets empty they go over and open some more boxes, so I'm just saving them work.

I don't see how they can expect to sell any for the box price anyway; you expect to pay less when you buy in bulk, not more. If they want to keep a few boxes unopened and try to sell them for more then he could've told me, I don't really see what your point is.

God, the retards at Fry's got fucking annoying sometimes.

(ALL PLU NUMBERS IN THE FOLLOWING STORY HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO PROTECT THE IDENTITY OF THE ITEM IN QUESTION)

People would come up with cases of CD-Rs and be like "Well, you guys are out of these (PLU number 1938487) but you guys have these (PLU 4827384, which have the same label, and are priced higher. I want them at the lower price."

"Sir, we are currently out of the first kind, and the second kind is a different type of CD-R."

"WHAT? THEY HAVE THE SAME LABEL, HOW CAN YOU TELL ME THEY'RE DIFFERENT"

"Well, for 1, they have different plu numbers. If you want to get Technical, the ones you wanted to buy, are 8x CDs, the ones on sale, are 4x"

"But they're the same thing"

"No, they're not."

"but..."

"Sir, we're currently out of stock of the ones you want, and we cannot change the price on the other CDs"

"Well I want them at the sale price"

"Then you should have probably come sooner, as the ones on sale sold out about 15 minutes ago" (It was like 3-4 hours, but I wanted to piss him off more)

"Well I want it at this price"

"Sorry sir, we are currently out and I am unable to change the price on the items"

"Well let me speak w..."

"Mike, can you come over here please."

*supervisor comes over*

*supervisor repeats same thing over and over for like 4-5 minutes.

The guy finally gave in and bought the CDs. :lol
