Description:
When a group of LGBTQ+ campers arrives at Whistler Camp - a conversion camp run by Owen Whistler (Kevin Bacon) - they are promised a “new sense of freedom” by the end of the week. But as the counselors attempt to psychologically break down each of the campers, a mysterious killer starts claiming victims, and they must reclaim their power if they’re going to survive the horrors of the camp. Written and directed by Academy Award nominee John Logan and produced by Jason Blum, They/Them is an empowering slasher film starring an ensemble cast that includes Carrie Preston, Anna Chlumsky, Theo Germaine, Quei Tann, Anna Lore, Monique Kim, Darwin del Fabro, Cooper Koch, and Austin Crute.

Kevin Bacon already fucked up from the first line of dialog. "Ladies and Gentlemen" is such an antiquated and insufficient term, especially for a movie acknowledging third-genders in the title itself. Kind of a strange omission, unless his choice of these words is somehow integral to the plot itself.

This movie looks fun and funny as hell.

It's a conversion camp. Conversion therapy is the practice of trying to change someone's gender. The phrasing was intentional.

Cool... I may get Paramount Plus for this...
Kevin Bacon's first major role was in the original Friday The 13th.. so its great to see him do horror again.

Kinda wish I didn't watch the trailer, because it doesn't look like anything special. If it wasn't for the LGBT theme this appears to be just another slasher, and as I said after I watched X, I think I'm 'done' with traditional slashers.
Meh. Maybe if there's nothing else to watch I'll check it out.

The title (They Slash Them) is fairly clever though, I must admit.

Ohhhhhh, that is clever. I never PRONOUNce the "/" either out loud or in my head, so I never would've gotten that.

Having a conversion camp, a place that imposes gender ideology, in this case on youth, as the setting is clever.

These camps have shown how difficult it is to change someone's gender in appearances even through intensive therapies involving the willing, let alone the self-asserted who are forced. The young still discovering their nature may not have the tools and confidence to defend their own understanding of themselves against a coordinated assault meant to replace their incomplete understanding of themselves with the facade of appearances and behavior someone else wants them to have.

That the camp's techniques don't involve religion and appear to be real world phrasing complete with the underlying threats of noncompliance makes me look forward to seeing if what is made of this in the show.

Imagine having the balls to pitch a slasher film with this premisse

Imagine having an even bigger pair by greenliting it

It will generate controversy one way or the other, no matter how the story in the movie unfolds

And it will be glorious
