Things you enjoy in life aside from gaming?

Curious about this. I've just started a new job so haven't had as much time for my hobbies. It's made me assess what makes me truly happy so I can organise my time better.

Atm I'm basically getting most enjoyment from reading, the gym, teaching myself web design, games, films and my job (probably in that order).

Socialising is missing because I currently live in a rural area. Working on that but it is what it is right now.

Et tu, brute?
Going for long discovery walks in nature trails and hiking trails, reading, working on personal projects

I do very little gaming these days tbh.

I spend my time Listening to Heavy Metal & Rock, there’s so much content on YouTube to Spotify & elsewhere to keep me going for years, not to mention over 300 cd’s from before Streaming was a thing.

I can take music with me on my phone or MP3 player when out walking about etc. Then going to live concerts a couple of times a year nothing gets me happier than a good live gig, some beers, maybe meet up with people etc, there’s so much you can do with music as a hobby alone that if I had to give up everything else I enjoyed in life & Music was to be my only allowed Hobby I’d still be fulfilled.

Movies/TV - Mainly Horror, Comedy, Comic Book stuff.

Just faffing about on the Internet in general, I can spend hours on here, finding something new or something to laugh about everyday.

Reading, listening to music and podcasts. Meeting friends or going out with my SO.

Oh and I love to get shitfaced drunk and doing drugs once or twice a year.

Do you ever feel constrained by that? I get the feeling we're alike in wanting a more outdoorsy life but not feeling like we have time.

Pretty much yeah.
Plus when you are older you always have a bunch of stuff that you need to do even outside of work, so couch entertainment is much easier and faster.

Reading, cycling, family time, watching F1. I used to watch a ton of tv shows, but I've pretty much limited it by 90% and there only a few tv shows I still follow.

Aside from the usual stuff like reading and watching TV/Movies:

-Cooking and baking. Love learning to make new stuff and trying out new recipes. This summer I also want to get into making home made hot sauces.

-And during the summer I like hiking and fishing but more as a way to relax than anything, so I don't go to hardcore trails nor do I wake up at 5am to go fishing and stuff like that.

Golf. Just got back from a long weekend golf trip to the DR with the boys. 2nd one this year. Out in the sunshine in the most beautiful landscape, drinking beer, trying to win money from each other, playing a game that's absolutely impossible to master. The joy of a birdie, the fucking rage of a triple. Nothing better.

I had two birdies on this three round trip, the very first hole of the first day and the last hole at Punta Espada, so I walked away a happy, happy golfer. Was one roll away from birdieing the signature 2nd hole there, too.

I also like birding, and that goes extremely well with golf. Saw a magnificent frigatebird and the critically endangered Ridgeway's Hawk at courses over the weekend. Both lifers. Key-west quail dove, Palmchat, Broad-billed Tody, Hispaniolan Woodpecker among others. Was a good trip.

I am Become Bilbo Baggins
Reading.

Not just novels, but a lot of nonfiction. Mostly history and politics, but also philosophy, biology, nature, paleontology, cosmology, physics and mathematics. I just love to learn and absorb new information.

I believe I'm only on this world once, so I want to learn as much about the planet, the universe and humanity as I can.

Fare thee well

I taught myself how to read sheet music for piano since I was in grade school. I never got good enough to be professional or play for others, but I just enjoy playing for myself. Love late-romantic composers (a lot of Russian music) and some of the Impressionist era of music. A lot of it dropped off and disappeared at the turn of the century. I imagine by the time I'm old even less will be around to appreciate and understand it.

I can go for that - a little Mussorgsky or Rachmaninoff - but you're right, the circle of people that care about the good old shit is getting very small. OT: music, writing, a little mid-distance running... truth is I've gotten very lazy with all of my hobbies and I'm really struggling to find the motivation these days. I'm only in my mid-thirties, so let's hope I haven't peaked yet.

Studied Chinese (Mandarin) for a number of years. Just felt like it, not sure why, since my wife is Korean :D . I never got into learning the hanzi, though I was slowly beginning to recognize a little here and there. But I could read and pronounce the pinyin quite well. I would have regular Skype exchanges with various folks from China, including a mother/son group. She would teach me for about 30 minutes, and I would teach her son English for about 30 minutes. It was quite rewarding and refreshing. I was thinking of getting back into it, inspired a lot by hearing more Chinese customers coming into my store lately.

I want to get into Mandarin. Already know Japanese pretty well so hopefully learning the characters wont be such a PITA.
