not sure if there are still the $15 FOX Season 1 Boxset deals online, but Best Buy has 24 Season 1 for 50% off (along with other sets like NYPD Blue S1 and Dark Angel S1).

I got my friend to watch it starting with season 2 and he's been hooked since day 1 of season 2. You pretty much know what happened in 1 by watching 2, but you don't get the real emotion behind the events...I can't say more without spoilers ><
