Thinking about getting Fable

I passed it up a long while ago, and now that I am in a gaming drought (nothing much jumps out at me) I am considering getting this title.

What do you guys think of Fable? I would prefer you list your opinions with the reasons why you liked/disliked it. Thanks :)

I loved it. Really good if you're a Zelda fun. Loading and bloom gets annoying though. And yeah, you could probably find it for cheap now. Look for some deals.

I wanted it to be more, but what's there is nice. I was glued to it, but what's unfortunate is that the game asks too much to get a proper length out it. The side quests, sim-like abilities are interesting, but not interesting enough to draw you away from the fast approaching finish line.

It's a good game and as you might guess, better than it ever had a chance of being at GAF. That said, it's not a GREAT game and since the creator made it out to be, it rightly deserves some thrashing.

Fable is one of the most unrewarding, unsatisfying, incredibly boring action/adventure games I've ever played. I think it sucks.

If you're a big RPG/action RPG fan, you'll be disappointed... if you like pointless hack and slashes, with a few original ideas, you might like it. It's worth about $15-20 or so... I paid $50 for it... totally got burned.

A PC version was recently confirmed. I'd wait for that to see if they update anything.

Wasn't there talk that the Platinum Edition might be updated with the same extra features from the PC version, ala Morrowind? I'm hoping that they do this...

Don't pay more than $20 for it or you'll be the little figure on the receiving end of Mr. Molyneux in my avatar.

There's the PC version, but it's not coming out until the fall, and I doubt your gaming drought will last that long.

When you finish it you'll definetly think to yourself, "what the hell?" But seriously, the first time you blast 5 guys with chain lighnting its pretty fucking sweet.

Its sad that the game has so many moments like that, where they did something so cool, and yet, the game is so god damn short you don't get to experience it enough. Plus everything is so linear and constrained.

Oh and the Beer-Golf minigame is fucking awesome :)

To sum up, its a really short, really easy (I beat the last boss on the first try without getting hit *sigh*) But filled with little shiny moments.

*Extremely minor spoiler about one of the final bosses moves that only someone really anal would bitch about.

Really? How did you automatically know that the
only way to avoid his "soul sucker" air magic move was to hide behind one of the rocks?

Not that he was that hard.
I bezerked, turned my sword to 5X and slashed him once (800, 800, 800, 800, 800) to get him into his second phase of battle.
Best stratagy in the game, next to
using that aura shield so that when you get hit, you don't lose your combat multiplier. That thing can get up to 30 when you figure out that trick.

All in all I really enjoyed
Fable
. What a really great
game
.

Next time, use the spoiler tag. Thanks for ruining part of the game for me.

Dude, you are so late to the party that it is like getting mad at the party goers for drinking the kegs.

I actually enjoyed Fable. I thought it was a fun, entertaining action rpg. It didn't live up to the hype, but it was still fun. There are lots of subtle things going on, and the humor is top notch. Just know that it has several problems. One, it's too short for sure. The load times come too often and are too long. The exploration is greatly hindered by too many set paths. Oh, and it's too short. :D

Wouldn't pay more than $20. It's original and fun to play for a few hours, but then you get a "Wait, this is it?" feeling.

Nailed it. I got that feeling after about five hours. Took 13 hours to beat, and that's doing lots and lots of extras. Fable is only one of two games this gen I returned.

I would extend the same consideration to someone else. It's like telling people who haven't seen the Sixth Sense

that Bruce Willis' character is dead

Just because the movie is older doesn't mean you should ruin it for others.

Sorry. It's really a minor part of the battle anyways.

Apology accepted. :)

Man, I thought I would get a ton of "Get it, it's sweet!" comments that it would cement my purchase. Now I don't know what to do.

OMG!

Vader is Luke's father!!!

WTF?!?

Aeris DIES!!!

BBQ!!!

You are THE Revan in KOTOR!

Get it, but get it cheap. It comes in for a lot of undeserved hate on GAF, presumably because too many people got bitter about buying into the hype. It's short and comparatively sweet. The closest competition it has on XBox is Sudeki, and it kicks that into the middle of next week. Just don't expect anything that's going to change your life or live up to the hype and you'll be fine if you can find it for $20 somewhere.

You couldn't have possibly. If someone were to find the top 10 trends on video game messageboards in the past 12 months, "bitching about Fable" would be right in there (btw, "What should Nintendo do?" or variations thereof would be the clear #1).

My opinion: I liked it. A pretty unique experience, and I was happy to play an RPG without the traditional Japanese RPG cliches for a change. Short? Eh. For me, any game I got at least 10 hours out of is enough.

I bought it when it off Ebay for $30 a while back. I played it for about 45 minutes, and promptly sold it to Gamestop the next day. Completely unplayable crap. Oversimplified - it's like Zelda for morons. Don't even bother renting it.

I didn't,
but I was playing Long Distant Primarily so hiding behind objects was just naturally part of my normal strategy.
The bow is so rediculously powerful in that game its not even funny. A strong bow, and a good hiding place and you can kill anyone.

As for wether or not you should buy it. If its 20 bucks, yes you shoudl get it. Its definetly worth that much if you like RPG's. Like I said there are many moments that kick ass, and the minigames can be cool.

For an example of a really cool moment, I was running through this town and feeling decidedly evil that day I decided to just start killing people, so I ran into the tavern and murdered everyone in there. I must have killed the bartender cuz it went up for sale..and then I bought it. Haha, best way to purchase land.

Being evil is very fun. But I don't like how if you go evil,
you go bald.
Come on!

And you probably got hit by it a little
(it doesn't affect you or nothing, it just drains your health)
and didn't notice.

If you aren't incredibly anal about game length than Fable is a fairly enjoyable experience.Granted I wanted more when the game ended, but that just proved I was having a good time with it.It's only real flaw is the multiple load times.

Awesome, awesome game. Its easily one of the top 10 games i've played in 2004

Its just an amazingly charming game. Forget the GAF hate, buy the game and experience a truly beautiful adventure. Its short, but the ride is pretty sweet. Truly unique game full of really wonderful moments. The music is some of the best i've heard too

Buy it used or new, just make sure you dont miss out on it!

GAF is just linded with molydjsbdsjnsjdsx hate. It's a good game with some great ideas, a solid b title. The fighting engine is solid, the graphics are fantastic, and the world interactivity is excellent. It has plenty of flaws that keep it from beign an aaa+ game though - it's too linear, the load times are troublesome, it's too short, and the interactivity is limited (primarily due to the linearity and small scope of the game). The inevitable sequel should be what everyone expected Fable to be, I think. I mean the ideas are all there, and Fable provides a strong base/correctly implements some of those ideas, so it shouldn't be too much to expect a seriously amazing RPG in Fable 2.

Dear God, please ignore the haters on this board - Fable is awesome. Short? I guess so - the first play through took me about 15 hours and I played as a virtuous paladin, with shining armor and healing spells. My second play through was naturally shorter, but I was a wickedly evil, bisexual assassin-summoner with a deadly crossbow. While it's true that the game has balance issues (hard to play as evil when killing monsters for xp gives you "good" points), it has so many fantastic little touches that you'll notice all sorts of things on multiple play-throughs (like the midnight bare knuckle fights clubs I stumbled upon.)

So ignore the whiners who gobbled up the preview hype from GI, IGN, EGM and others and get this game, whether Xbox or the PC.

Also, this game is pretty fun. There is lots to do. I take it that the true Fable haters are also lovers of eastern RPGs, since Fable is the antithesis of the eastern RPG.

But wait 'til E3. I've heard of Fable DLC, Fable GOTY edition and Fable PC having extra stuff.
