the music is OK. totally generic 16-bit CD-style RPG music, for the most part. pleasantly nostalgic, nothing i'd ever consider listening to outside of the context of the game but enjoyable while playing.
the game derives its depth not from the need to build characters immensely but much more from the various tasks and situations you'll encounter in battle, which i think is a lot more interesting personally. i'm not a big SRPG fan, and i'd characterize this as an SRPG for people who don't like them, really, as it's fast paced and fun. note: i have no opinion on whether people who *do* like SRPGs will like this or not.
growlanser II is really streamlined and fast paced. growlanser III adds in a lot of RPG trappings that are rather muddying, especially the (groan) random dungeons.
the urushihara character artwork is gorgeous and fills the screen, which makes up for the early 32-bit (and not particularly attractive, at that) graphics.
a pack of two fun games, and if you really get into them, definitely worth the money.
do not buy the limited edition or you are a twat with cheap game jewelry, forever shaming your family name.
