Plot spoilers:

Spoiler

Paul's character is the last surviving descendant of Ivo Shandor and is the new Keymaster. Egon's daughter becomes the new Gatekeeper. So he can't be a Ghostbuster in this one, but there are two credit scenes setting up future movies.

The Ghostbusters in the end fight with Gozer are Egon's two grandkids, Ray, Winston, Peter...and Dana.
