God, those were crazy days.
You think anything you've ever seen was hyped up? Nothing compares to this time period. I'm not just saying that as an old man, because I was born right in the beginning of it. I mean historically. Pottermania is most definitely the closest to come to Star Wars hype, but still is overshadowed.
God, I wish we had time machines. Just to go back and see my uncles, in their teens, buying up all the Empire toys with those huge grins, then letting 3 year old me play with them. The walls covered in posters, the bullshit rumors that got spread, the fan magazines, the cool little cardboard board game they had. My grandparents' bathroom was full of star wars fan mags and Star Logs until at least 1986.
