I used to be all CHUTES TOO NARROW IS BETTER, but most everyone who said Oh Inverted World was better was right. Upon repeated listens, Chutes Too Narrow gets old faster. Brillian albums the both o em tho.

Sholmes, methinks you're a bit of a grump! Garden State was a fantastic film that really delved into the depths of a complex relationship dealing with complex people that have complex problems! Natalie Portman's character is one of the most accurate depictions of the sort of girl you'd run into at a psychiatrist. I like to look at her epilepsy helmet as a bit of an inside reference to the classic "tortoise shell complex" Helvetica Hirschel's Juicen' Juice confronts!

I would revel, but he's one of like 3 people on my ignore list. The schtick just got old, so music threads are actually tolerable at this point. As for The Shins, I only have Oh, Inverted World! but it's definitely great, laid back stuff. Definitely looking forward to picking up Chutes Too Narrow and their forthcoming album...which I *think* is due out this year, but I could be wrong as I haven't been following.

I first heard of the shins when they released an mp3 single of Caring is Creepy on epitonic and have been a fan ever since. It's good music that gets better the more you listen to it.

I do worry though that it will be a long time till their next real album and that we'll get random soundtrack songs inbetween.

i dunno, i was underwhelmed by Chutes too Narrow. i completely loved the first album's low-fi aesthetics, and the new 'polished' Shins were too jarring for my tastes. it did grow on me, but not as much as i thought it would even a year later.

Then while I'm browsing my iTunes library while enjoy a smoothie, some autumn-haired indie child walks by and sees me wizzing by "Pink Moon". They skip past the obscure album title and straight to Nick Drake's name and say "Oh, have you seen Garden State?!" to which I then get up rapidly and push the desk over while screaming "FUCK YOU." and storm off into the sunset.



PS: I secretly love Garden State and wish to write a film that lets me get close to Natalie Portman someday.

Why are you judging my looks based on one high-resolution, goofy picture where you can see every detail on my face that's covered in chili and where I have blue lips? It was a picture I posted for fun on OA, where they've seen me MANY times.
